Inspection for defects is crucial to guaranteeing the quality of industrial goods. The employment of an autonomous flaw inspection algorithm in real production is in great demand due to the shortcomings of the most popular human visual inspection approach, which includes high cost and low efficiency. However, due to discrepancy between data acquired in the actual production environment as well as pre-made datasets, only a small number of industrial production lines employ autonomous detection equipment. One industrial product that only rely on hand fault inspection is lace. Using the current image-based defect evaluation techniques, it is challenging to derive regular patterns from lace's intricate and delicate texture. In order to discover anomalies utilizing computerized image analysis in the industrial business, this research proposes a revolutionary approach. Here, security camera footage from the industrial sector has been gathered and processed for noise reduction, smoothing, and normalization using computerized data. Then, using quantile vector reinforcement structural learning, the characteristics of the processed data are identified and chosen using a Gaussian radial Boltzmann neural network. For the video dataset and computerized data, experimental analysis is conducted in terms of training accuracy, average mean error, anomaly analysis, trust value analysis, and anomaly analysis. The proposed technique attained training accuracy of 98%, average mean error of 69%, anomaly analysis of 99%, and trust value analysis of 98%.

The optic disc analyser has three functions. It measures the optic cup size, nerve head color and optic nerve topography. The latter two functions are useful in Neuro-Ophthalmology. The authors have selected cases of progressive optic atrophy, pseudo and true edema of the disc to illustrate the analyser's application to neuro-ophthalmologic cases.

computerized image analysis in Differentiation of Skin Lesions Caused by Electrocution, Flame Burns, and Abrasion

In the practice of forensic science, sometimes, it is not easy to understand whether skin lesion is due to electrocution and to differentiate the thermal burns and abrasion-type lesions, especially when electricity source cannot be revealed by death science investigation. Based on the causes of the lesions, cases were classified into three groups. Group 1 included 30 deaths from electrocution. Group 2 included 30 deaths with flame burns. Group 3 included 30 deaths from traffic accident cases, which had abrasions. In this study, epidermal nuclear area, perimeter, nuclear form factor, nuclear minimum axes, nuclear maximum axes, and minimum axes/maximum axes ratio were measured. As a result, we think that computerized image analysis beside light microscopic examination can be useful in the differentiation of the electrocution, flame burn, and abrasion type lesions.

The purpose of the present study was to establish a rapid and reproducible method for quantification of tissue-infiltrating leukocytes using computerized image analysis. To achieve this, the staining procedure, the image acquisition, and the image analysis method were optimized. Because of the adaptive features of the human eye, computerized image analysis is more sensitive to variations in staining compared with manual image analysis. To minimize variations in staining, an automated immunostainer was used. With a digital scanner camera, low-magnification images could be sampled at high resolution, thus making it possible to analyze larger tissue sections. image analysis was performed by color thresholding of the digital images based on values of hue, saturation, and intensity color mode, which we consider superior to the red, green, and blue color mode for analysis of most histological stains. To evaluate the method, we compared computerized analysis of images with a X 100 or a X 12.5 magnification to assess leukocytes infiltrating rat brain tumors after peripheral immunizations with tumor cells genetically modified to express rat interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) or medium controls. The results generated by both methods correlated well and did not show any significant differences. The method allows efficient and reproducible processing of large tissue sections that is less time-consuming than conventional methods and can be performed with standard equipment and software.

analysis of iron levels in single cells is critical to understand the consequences of impaired regulation of iron homeostasis. Here we establish a method to analyze intracellular iron deposits by computerized image analysis of Prussian blue-stained alveolar macrophages as a test system. We efficiently detected small differences in macrophage steady-state iron levels in Hfe (-/-) mice as well as inflammation-induced iron sequestration upon lipopolysaccharide instillation. In conclusion, computerized image analysis of single cells is a robust and reproducible tool suitable for iron measurements in small sample sets with limited cell yield.

analysis of interactions between B and T cells in tubulointerstitial inflammation is important for understanding human lupus nephritis. We developed a computer technique to perform this analysis, and compared it with manual analysis. Multi-channel immunoflourescent-microscopy images were acquired from 207 regions of interest in 40 renal tissue sections of 19 patients diagnosed with lupus nephritis. Fresh-frozen renal tissue sections were stained with combinations of immunoflourescent antibodies to membrane proteins and counter-stained with a cell nuclear marker. Manual delineation of the antibodies was considered as the reference standard. We first segmented cell nuclei and cell membrane markers, and then determined corresponding cell types based on the distances between cell nuclei and specific cell-membrane marker combinations. Subsequently, the distribution of the shortest distance from T cell nuclei to B cell nuclei was obtained and used as a surrogate indicator of cell-cell interactions. The computer and manual analyses results were concordant. The average absolute difference was 1.1 +/- 1.2% between the computer and manual analysis results in the number of cell-cell distances of 3 mu m or less as a percentage of the total number of cell-cell distances. Our computerized analysis of cell-cell distances could be used as a surrogate for quantifying cell-cell interactions as either an automated and quantitative analysis or for independent confirmation of manual analysis.

A novel approach based on computerized image analysis for traditional Chinese medical diagnosis of the tongue

This research is aimed at building a computerized tongue examination system (CTES) based on computerized image analysis for the purpose of quantizing the tongue properties in traditional Chinese medical diagnosis. The chromatic algorithm is developed to identify the colors of the tongue and the thickness of its coating. The textural algorithm is used to detect the grimy coating. CTES is shown to be significantly consistent within itself with P > 0.05 using the Hotelling multivariate statistical test. The overall rate of correctness for CTES to identify the colors of tongue, verifying the thickness of its coating and detecting of any grimy coating exceeds 86%. Therefore, the CTES is helpful to provide the physicians a systematic and objective diagnostic standard for the tongue diagnosis in the clinical practice and research. A PRELIMINARY-STUDY OF SKIN ELECTRICAL INJURY WITH computerized image-analysis

This paper reports the application of computerized image analysis to a quantitative study of skin electrical injury in order to provide an objective and quantitative standard for identifying the electrical mark. The differences between antemortem and postmortem electrical injuries were also studied. In normal and electrically-injured human skin, the long/short axes ratio of nuclei were measured. The mean of epithelial basal cells was 1.4344 and 5.9325, respectively, the mean of hair follicle cells was 1.6193 and 4.5988, respectively, and the mean of capillary endothelial cells was 4.0229 and 4.3593, respectively. In rat specimens, the long/short axes ratio of nuclei of normal skin, at 15 and 5 min ante-mortem and at 5 min postmortem injury, the mean epithelial basal cells was 1.4124, 4.5417, 5.2282 and 5.0447, respectively. The mean of hair follicle cells was 1.4140, 4.4863, 4.1146 and 4.4522, respectively, while the mean of capillary endothelial cells was 2.8398, 3.7514, 3.6159 and 3.6977, respectively. The results indicate that the differences between electrical injuries and normal skin with respect to the ratios of long/short axes of the epithelial basal cell nuclei and hair follicle cell nuclei are of remarkable significance. On the other hand, no significant difference could be found between antemortem and postmortem injuries, nor between electrical injury and normal skin, concerning the long/short axes ratios of capillary endothelial cell nuclei. This result provides a preliminary objective standard for the changes of electrical skin injury.

Dose-response for retinoic acid-induced forelimb malformations and cleft palate: A comparison of computerized image analysis and visual inspection

BACKGROUND: The objectives of this study were to (1) compare two techniques (computerized image analysis and visual morphological evaluation) for the assessment of fetal forelimb malformations and (2) increase the robustness of the dose-response curve for forelimb and cleft palate malformations resulting from all-trans retinoic acid (RA) exposure in GD 11 mice. METHODS: Pregnant CD-1 mice were administered a single oral dose of all-trans RA (0, 2.5,10,30, 60, or 100 mg/kg) on GD 11. GD 18 fetuses were examined for malformations using visual morphological scoring and computerized image analysis. RESULTS: Dose-dependent changes occurred in the size and shape of the humerus, radius, and ulna based on both assessment methodologies. The most sensitive indicators for the lowest effect level (10 mg/kg) on forelimbs were roundness, a shape measurement determined by image analysis, and visual morphological scoring. For all other bone measurements (proximal and distal width, area, length, and perimeter), the lowest effect level was 30 mg/kg. The maximum effect for limb defects and total malformed fetuses was seen at 60 mg/kg and higher. Incidence of cleft palate increased over the entire range of administered doses reaching a maximum of 74% (100 mg/kg). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, results indicate that computerized image analysis was no more sensitive in detecting changes in the humerus, radius, and ulna than gross visual examination. Dose-response modeling of developmental endpoints yielded comparable benchmark dose levels for long bones and cleft palate that ranged from 0.24 to 7.6 mg/kg all-trans RA. (C) 2004 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Focal segmental sclerotic lesions of the glomerulus in transplanted kidneys assessed using computerized image analysis

Mechanisms responsible for the development of focal segmental sclerotic lesions of the glomerulus (FSGS lesions) in transplanted kidneys were investigated by morphometric analysis. The mean glomerular area and the interstitial area were measured using computerized image analysis to compare implantation biopsies (so-called 1-h biopsies;1Bx) with later biopsies (episode Bx;EBx) that had been taken for diagnostic purposes to identify the cause of deteriorating renal function. Groups of patients with (group A, n = 15) or without (group B, n = 10) FSGS lesions were compared. Twelve of 15 in group A and all in group B had lost graft function due to chronic allograft nephropathy. It was found that neither the mean glomerular area nor the interstitial area differed significantly between the two groups in either 1Bx or EBx. The interstitial area was significantly increased (P = 0.007) and the mean glomerular area tended to be increased (P = 0.085) in EBx compared with 1Bx in group A but not in group B. The serum creatinine level at the time of EBx in group A correlated with the interstitial area (P = 0.031) but not the mean glomerular area. However, there was no similar correlation in group B. In conclusion, factors for the development of FSGS lesions in transplanted kidneys may be the increase in interstitial area and possible glomerular hypertrophy following transplantation, rather than pre-existing reduced renal mass of the donor kidneys.
