A distributed event-triggered algorithm for constrained economic dispatch problem via virtual communication

A new distributed discrete-time event-triggered optimization algorithm is proposed based on the Newton-Raphson iterative method and the consensus algorithm in this paper. With the aid of virtual communication strategy, the proposed algorithm can solve economic dispatch problem with power output constraints under undirected and connected network. Moreover, the waste of network resources can be reduced by adopting event-triggered communication strategy. In addition, the linear convergence of the algorithm is strictly proved by the discrete Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, three numerical simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed algorithm.

A distributed cooperative secondary voltage regulation control strategy based on specified time consistency is proposed to solve the power distribution and voltage deviation problems in primary control of virtual synchronous generators in isolated island microgrid. This strategy transforms the secondary voltage control problem into a distributed consistent model tracking problem by combining the specified time consistency algorithm with the virtual synchronous generator algorithm. In this way, the system can rely on simple communication between adjacent units to allocate reactive power according to capacity at a specified time, and the voltage controller can quickly adjust the microgrid voltage to the rated value. Compared with traditional control, the convergence time can be specified in advance without considering the influence of protocol parameters, and the voltage recovery speed can be improved, which is conducive to the plug and play of distributed power supply. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are verified by simulation and experiment.

Several reasons have been given to justify the inaccessibility or poor connectivity of the internet and the limits of technological resources in rural areas, such as the high cost of physical equipment, facilities and their deployments, low income, low population density, the distance linked to the geographical distribution of certain agglomerations, and so on. Due to these multiple difficulties, in this paper, we focus on the concept of smart rural area, proposing a three-phase model based on the emerging Collaborative Edge Computing (CEC) paradigm. Our approach aims at looking for the best Edge nodes where to deploy microservices. The first phase, i.e., discovery is responsible to find out federated Edge nodes, the second phase, i.e., authentication, is responsible to verify the identity of discovered devices, in the end, the third phase, i.e., the selection is responsible to choose the best Edge node in which to deploy the microservice. In particular, discovery and authentication agents were developed considering Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) and Security Assertion Making Language (SAML) respectively, whereas the selector agent was developed using a Gossip consensus algorithm.

Motivated by the recent interests in implementing both grid-forming (GFM) and grid-following (GFL) inverters in the grid, this work studies the stability of such inverter-dominated systems by analyzing the equivalent model using networked oscillators. The equivalent oscillator models for both GFM and GFL inverters are developed, respectively, which characterize the behavior of the electric network of inverters and loads. The synchronization of the networked oscillators is studied. It is proved that such a system has a set of unique and locally stable operating states when it is synchronized. Moreover, a necessary condition for the system to reach synchronization is derived, which provides a large-signal stability assessment for the system. At last, the proposed work is validated using simulation results.

Blazing a trail via matrix multiplications: A faster algorithm for non-shortest induced paths

For vertices u and v of an n-vertex graph G, a uv-trail of G is an induced uv-path of G that is not a shortest uv-path of G. Berger, Seymour, and Spirkl [Discrete Mathematics 2021] gave the previously only known polynomial-time algorithm, running in O(n(18)) time, to either output a uv-trail of G or ensure that G admits no uv-trail. We reduce the complexity to the time required to perform a poly-logarithmic number of multiplications of n(2)xn(2) Boolean matrices, leading to a largely improved O(n(4.75))-time algorithm. Our result improves the previous O(n(21))-time algorithm by Cook, Horsfield, Preissmann, Robin, Seymour, Sintiari, Trotignon, and Vu & scaron;kovi & cacute;[Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B, 2024] for recognizing graphs with all holes the same length, and reduces the running time to O(n(7.75)).

Real-Time Distributed Economic Dispatch Adapted to General Convex Cost Functions: A Secant Approximation-Based Method

The increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) in power systems has aroused interest in distributed economic dispatch (DED). While quadratic cost functions are usually adopted, those of DERs are not necessarily quadratic in practice. Existing distributed algorithms perform unsatisfying convergence rates under nonquadratic cost functions. Therefore, this article proposes a secant approximation-based method (SAM) for general convex cost functions to achieve efficient convergence. The marginal cost functions are represented by linear functions in particular price intervals. With a dynamic ratio consensus (DRC) approach, the DERs with linear marginal cost functions can rapidly reach price consensus. The approximated prices can, in turn, determine new price intervals, which are narrower and more *** studies based on real-world data verify the improved convergence rate under general convex cost functions and exhibit growing performance in larger-scale cases. The proposed algorithm can be applied to DED in systems with high penetration of DERs and massive agents with general convex cost functions.

This paper proposes a three-phase AC battery based on the modular multilevel converter (MMC) and investigates the effects of cyber attacks on it. The AC battery concept allows plug and play combinatorial integration of diverse battery cells with different characteristics such as nominal voltage, state of charge (SoC), state of health (SoH), and capacity into modular and reconfigurable battery packs that can cost-effectively cover a broad range of applications from electrified vehicles to stationary storage. To this end, in each sub-module (SM) of the MMC, battery cells (or modules) are connected to its capacitor, enabling a cell-to-cell control. In this scenario, the traditional battery management system (BMS) can be replaced by control schemes for the converter aiming to equalise critical parameters associated with battery cells. Unlike previous works, the proposed battery concept considers a local controllers (LC) in each SM of the MMC, achieving a modularisation in computing capacity for the MMC control system. Under this framework, a distributed control scheme based on the consensus theory is proposed for SoC regulation among the battery cells. Also, it is shown that cyber attacks are real threats to this electrical system. In particular, this work studies the effects of the specific cyber attack named false data injection attack (FDIA) on the proposed distributed control scheme for SoC regulation.

In Internet of Things (IoT) employing centralized machine learning, security is a major concern due to the heterogeneity of end devices. Decentralized machine learning (DML) with blockchain is a potential solution. However, blockchain with proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism wastes computing resources and adds latency to DML. Computing resources can be utilized more efficiently with proof-of-useful-work (uPoW), which secures transactions by solving real-world problems. We propose a novel uPoW method that exploits PoW mining to accelerate DML through a task scheduling framework for multi-access edge computing (MEC) systems. To provide a good quality-of-service for the system, we minimize the latency by solving a multi-way number partitioning problem in the extended form. A novel uPoW-based mechanism is proposed to schedule DML tasks among MEC servers effectively. Simulation results show that our proposed blockchain strategies accelerate DML significantly compared with benchmarks.

Information related to Covid-19 either it is vaccination status of the country or the active Covid-19 cases both are the confidentialmatters. The privacy is utmost important concern in pandemic situation to secure access of patient vaccine data. Blockchain technique is one of the good techniques that affirm the privacy and data security. The consensus mechanisms in blockchain confirm that data stored in it, is authentic and secured. Proof of Work is one of the consensus algorithms, where miners in the blockchain network solves the puzzle and receive the reward accordingly. The difficulty level of the puzzle decides the security of the data in the network. Hence, this paper proposes blockchain based framework to store the vaccination data of patient by enhancing security using proof of work consensus algorithm. The performance of the proposed framework is measured on different level of difficulties, corresponding to time. The result shows that higher the difficulty level, take more time to solve the puzzle, results in more secure data.

Virtual power plant (VPP) composed of a large number of distributed energy resources (DERs) has become a regional multienergy aggregation model to realize the large-scale integration of renewable energy generation into the grid. Due to the characteristics of centralized management, the existing energy operation mode is difficult to simply apply to distributed energy resources transactions. The decentralization, transparency, contract execution automation and traceability of blockchain technology provide a new solution to the aggregation of decentralized resources and the opacity of transactions in VPP. In this paper, the existing problems of virtual power plants are analyzed, and the virtual power plant trading model is designed, which realizes the transparent benefit distribution and message transmission of virtual power plants. The virtual power plant blockchain network based on blockchain technology in this model solves the DERs coordination problem in VPP and the security and efficiency problems in information transmission. Combined with the actual situation of virtual power plant, the blockchain network collaboration mechanism (BNCM), which is convenient to reach agreement, is designed. Compared with the traditional practical Byzantine fault tolerance (PBFT) consensus algorithm, this mechanism can make DERs reach a consensus quickly. Finally, simulation experiments on the consensus algorithm show that the algorithm can reduce the collaboration time between DERs under the premise of ensuring the same fault tolerance rate and is more suitable for VPP scenarios with a large number of DERs.
