The agent based solutions are successfully applied in research and have impressive results. However, at the present, the agent technology is the realm of theory and laboratory simulation. The paper presents an attempt to bridge the gap. To facilitate migration of agent technology to the field, we propose to apply industrial standards such as IEC 61499 to design and implement the agent based algorithms. IEC 61499 is reference architecture for development of distributed systems. As an example of agent based solution to power system problem we consider Incremental Cost consensus (ICC) algorithm for solving economic dispatch problem. The original system was simulated in Matlab. The agent based 5 node system was developed using IEC 61499 and deployed to 5 industrial controllers, then tested. With the proposed approach the agent algorithms can be designed, tested and deployed within one framework without the overhead of re-coding the solution for different stages. The proposed approach enables directly executable agent solutions and paves the way to the industrial adoption of the agent technology in power system domain.

As a decentralized distributed ledger, blockchain has developed rapidly since its birth and has been highly valued by governments, academia, and industry. Start in the financial field, blockchain technology has been rapidly applied to various fields such as the Internet of Things, supply chain, and healthcare. Blockchain technology has made sufficient development and innovation, but it also faces many challenges, such as security, scalability, and waste of resources. This paper starts with the development history of blockchain and combines the characteristics and technical principles of it to analyze the current academic research status and application scenarios. Meanwhile, this paper analyzes the existing outstanding blockchain projects and elaborates on their key advantages and current challenges. With discussing the ongoing development trend of blockchain, the development direction, and the research trend of blockchain in the future, this paper provides a useful reference for related research.

ANALYSIS OF NORMALIZED LEAST MEAN SQUARES-BASED consensus ADAPTIVE FILTERS UNDER A GENERAL INFORMATION CONDITION

A distributed adaptive filter can estimate an unknown signal of interest by a set of sensors working cooperatively, when any individual sensor cannot fulfill the filtering task due to lack of necessary information condition. This paper considers these kinds of filtering problems and focuses on a class of consensus normalized least mean squares-based algorithms. A general and weakest possible cooperative information condition is introduced to guarantee the stability of these kinds of adaptive filters, without resorting to commonly used but stringent conditions such as independence and stationarity of the system signals, which makes our theory applicable to feedback systems. Moreover, this general information condition is shown to be not only sufficient but also necessary for stability of the adaptive filters for a large class of random signals with decaying dependence. We further show that the mean square tracking error matrix can be approximately calculated by a linear deterministic difference matrix equation that can be easily evaluated and analyzed.

PeerBFT: Making Hyperledger Fabric's Ordering Service Withstand Byzantine Faults

In a blockchain system, there is an entity called an ordering service or miner that is responsible for ordering transactions, building a new block, and broadcasting the new block to all the blockchain peers. In a distributed system, the safety property is violated when an ordering service sends inconsistent blocks to peers and the liveness property is not guaranteed when the ordering service stops sending blocks to peers. Therefore, the ordering service must behave correctly to guarantee safety and liveness in blockchain operations. Hyperledger Fabric, a permissioned blockchain platform assumes the correct behavior of the ordering service. It also adopts an endorsement policy to deal with malicious behaviors of peers. However, a malicious ordering service can easily make the endorsement policy ineffective. Therefore, Hyperledger Fabric is not reliable in an environment where an ordering service may be hacked. In this paper, we propose PeerBFT that enables peers to handle Byzantine faults in the ordering service of Hyperledger Fabric, assuming that n >= 3f + 1, where n is the total number of peers and f is the maximum number of malicious peers. In PeerBFT, each peer audits the behavior of the ordering service. When a group of peers detects any incorrect operations in the ordering service, they collectively migrate to a new ordering service. We have built a prototype of PeerBFT in Hyperledger Fabric 1.2. It is shown that PeerBFT can handle the Byzantine faults of the ordering service. The experimental evaluation shows that PeerBFT achieves approximately 90.8% of TPS (Transactions Per Second) of Hyperledger Fabric with Solo ordering service.

Adaptive consensus of multi-agent systems under quantized measurements via the edge Laplacian

This paper investigates consensus problems for a first-order nonlinear multi-agent system with unknown non-identical parameters when quantized measurements are available. We explore the utility of edge Laplacian for designing adaptive consensus protocol with quantized state information. A tree structure plays an important role in designing adaptive control with quantized information. Then, all agents achieve consensus mainly based on tree edges information. The proposed protocol has the advantage of using an equivalent simpler graph to avoid the redundant edge information in the cycle structure of the graph, Furthermore, when the multi-agent systems have unknown identical control directions, a Nussbaum-type item is used in the protocol for each agent to seek control direction adaptively and cooperatively. Finally, simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in this article. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Although Software Defined Networking (SDN) has a lot of advantages, it also leads to some security issues such as DDoS/DoS attacks, unauthorized access, and single point of failure. To improve the security and efficiency of the SDN control plane, we propose a novel consensus algorithm-Simplified Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (SPBFT) to transfer messages between controllers and then establish an analysis model to analyze the security and performance of SPBFT based on game theory. In this paper, we apply blockchain technology in SDN to build a readable, addable, and unmodifiable distributed database which maintains a list of updated system activities and time stamps in each controller. The simplified three-step consensus algorithm SPBFT makes the message transfer and verification carry out efficiently in parallel. In addition, we use recovery mechanism and credibility assessment on the primary controller to increase the invulnerability of system. Simulation results show that compared with the PBFT algorithm, the proposed algorithm can significantly improve system performances in terms of security and efficiency.

Distributed Agent consensus-Based Optimal Resource Management for Microgrids

This paper considers the optimal resource management problem for microgrids. Microgrids provide a promising approach to fulfil challenges of the integration of distributed renewable generations and energy storage systems. However, the resource management in a microgrid encounters the new difficulty, i.e., supply-demand imbalance, caused by the intermittence of renewable sources. Therefore, an optimal solution is proposed to the resource management by enhancing the communication and coordination under a multiagent system framework. An agent is a participant, for instance, the distributed renewable generator/ energy storage system of the microgrid. With this multiagent system, the distributed optimal solution only utilizes the local information, and interactswith the neighboring agents. Thus, single-node congestion is avoided since the requirement for a central control center is eliminated, and it is robust against single-link/node failures. The analysis will show that the proposed solution can solve the resource management problem in an initialization-free manner. Additionally, the proposed strategy canmaintain the supply-demand balance under a time-varying supply-demand deviation. The simulation studies are carried out for IEEE 14-bus and 162-bus power systems to validate the effectiveness of the proposed distributed solution.

Research software has opened up new pathways of discovery in many and diverse disciplines. This research software is developed under unique budgetary and schedule constraints. Its development is driven by knowledge discovery goals often without documented requirements. As a result, the software code quality is impacted which often hinders its sustainability beyond the immediate research goals. More importantly, the prevalent reward structures favor contributions in terms of research articles and systematically undervalues research codes contributions. As a result, researchers and funding agencies do not allocate appropriate efforts or resources to the development, sustenance, and dissemination of research codebases. This paper presents Susereum, a Blockchain based platform that aims at achieving two goals. First, restructuring prevalent incentives by awarding permanent immutable credit to research code authors similar to the credit awarded to the authors of scientific articles. Second, distributing sovereignty by empowering peers through a consensus process to define code sustainability and impact metrics.

The introduction of a consortium blockchain-based agricultural machinery scheduling system will help improve the transparency and efficiency of the data flow within the sector. Currently, the traditional agricultural machinery centralized scheduling systems suffer when there is a failure of the single point control system, and it also comes with high cost managing with little transparency, not leaving out the wastage of resources. This paper proposes a consortium blockchain-based agricultural machinery scheduling system for solving the problems of single point of failure, high-cost, low transparency, and waste of resources. The consortium blockchain-based system eliminates the central server in the traditional way, optimizes the matching function and scheduling algorithm in the smart contract, and improves the scheduling efficiency. The data in the system can be traced, which increases transparency and improves the efficiency of decision-making in the process of scheduling. In addition, this system adopts a crowdsourcing scheduling mode, making full use of idle agricultural machinery in the society, which can effectively solve the problem of resource waste. Then, the proposed system implements authentication access mechanisms, and allows only authorized users into the system. It includes transactions based on digital currency and eliminates third-party platform to charge service fees. Moreover, participating organizations have the opportunity to obtain benefits and reduce transaction costs. Finally, the upper layers supervision improves the efficiency and security of consensus algorithm, allows supervisors to block users with malicious motives, and always ensures system security.

Distributed cooperative secondary control (DCSC) based on droop control is an effective solution for the stable and efficient operation of the DC microgrids (MGs), and has received extensive attention in recent years Aiming at the defects of traditional droop control, this paper focuses on the improved distributed cooperative droop control method in DC microgrid from two aspects: asymptotic consensus algorithm and finite-time consensus algorithm. Furthermore, the communication problems faced by distributed cooperative control and the corresponding solutions are analyzed. Finally, concluding remarks are drawn and some potential research directions are suggested.
