Recently, Blockchain (BC) attracts a lot of research's to study their salient features in order to adopt it into various domains. BC promise to address security and privacy preservation issues in a distributed manner and eliminating the centralized concept. However, Internet of Thing (loT) environments is constricted resources with limited capabilities in terms of;computation, storage, and energy that deter to adopt BC in a straightforward manner due to its intensive computational requirements and bandwidth consumption overhead. To address those issues, this paper introduces a Lightweight Blockchain based Cybersecurity (LBC) for IoT environments. Unlike the Proof of Work (PoS) and Proof of Stake (PoS) in Bitcoins, we aim to mitigate the heavy computational cost that required in a consensus algorithm to meet the loT requirements. To provide scalability feature to the proposed scheme, Edge Block Manager (EBM) and Aggregation Block Managers (ABM) have been introduced;where EBM aims to overcome the limited capabilities of local loT resources and manages local BC in centralized manner. While ABM constitute of numerous of EBM to manages the public BC in a distributed manner. Our novel proposed scheme can preserve high throughput and low latency. Obviously, waiting period, verification, and block appending period have been mitigated. Security analysis shows that the proposed scheme is resisted against typical attacks.

Satoshi Nakamoto introduced a peer-to-peer electronic payment system in the paper "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" [12] in 2009. The payment system introduced in this paper (now known as blockchain technology) had a big impact on digital data transfer in a point that using blockchain technology, digital data transfer can be done without having third parties to give trust to the transfer process. In this paper, we focus on one of the key components of the blockchain technology, "consensus algorithm". We propose a consensus algorithm "Proof-of-Achievement (PoA)" which is an algorithm optimized for blockchain games, focusing on the number of tasks achieved in the game. Using the PoA algorithm, we aim to increase the motivation for playing blockchain games. Through a user study, this paper discusses the effects of the PoA algorithm.

This paper proposes a robust distributed energy management scheme for smart grid operation under uncertainty. In this proposed approach, the centralized optimization was formulated with incremental cost based consensus algorithm and solved in a distributed manner. A multi-agent system was developed in Java Agent Development (JADE) framework to communicate with the neighbour agents in a privacy-preserving environment while solving for the distributed optimization problem. The uncertainty of the load and renewable energy generators was also statistically modelled in this paper. The result showed that the proposed algorithm converges very fast compared to the existing algorithms and it was compared with the centralized approach to justify its effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Blockchain is an emerging decentralized architecture and distributed computing paradigm underlying a large number of cryptocurrencies and has recently attracted many high-tech institutions. It has a wide range of applications in various fields. With the continuous development of higher education, the curriculum evaluation system plays a vital role in the construction of college curriculum. Owing to the defects of non-transparent and centralization in college curriculum, a new frame based on blockchain is proposed in this paper. The proposed framework separates the curriculum evaluation from the school educational system and uses the characteristics of the blockchain to achieve the validity and openness of the evaluation results. Performance analysis and practical instances show the proposed frame can improve the authenticity and effectiveness of the evaluation.

There is currently a growing interest in the area of drag reduction of unmanned aerial vehicles. In this paper, the swarming flight of the fixed-wing drones and a load balancing mechanism during the swarm is investigated. As an example, the swarm flight of EBee Sensfly flying wings is analyzed through the proposed methodology. The aerodynamic drag forces of each individual drone and the swarm are modeled theoretically. It is shown that drones through the swarming flight can save up to 70 % of their energy and consequently improve their performance. As swarming drones have different loads and consuming a different level of power depending on their positions, there is a need to replace them during the flight in order to enhance their efficiency. To this end, regarding the number of drones, a replacement algorithm is defined for them so that they will be able to save more power during their mission. It is shown that there is more than 17 percent improvement in flight time and distance of swarming drones after replacement. This method of replacement and formation can be considered as one of the effective factors in a drag reduction of swarming aerial vehicles.

This paper proposes a distributed control method to achieve state of charge (SoC) balancing among the distributed battery energy units (BEUs) in a DC microgrid based on accurate power sharing. The distributed control algorithm estimates the average SoC of all BEUs by means of consensus algorithm, and voltage regulation is determined by comparing the per unit power of BEU with the those of the neighbors. At the same time, the estimated average SoC and the voltage regulation are used to implement accurate power sharing according to the SoC levels of BEUs to achieve the SoC balancing regardless of the line resistance difference. Moreover, the control algorithm also restores the DC voltage level to the nominal value for stable operation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by simulation.

The growing global population and the consequential increasing food demand have had a great impact on the environment and thus on the climate. Efforts are being made to reduce carbon footprint to mitigate such effects. Calculating the carbon footprint of food products is complex and requires the cooperation of all the stakeholders of the food supply chain. A record keeping system for tracking carbon footprint while preserving privacy for the related parties is needed. This paper presents a new implementation of blockchain for tracking of carbon footprint on food production and transportation stages. We designed a system that tracks the carbon footprint of food processing facilities and transportation parties using cluster-based record keeping while preserving their privacy. We implemented the proposed carbon footprint chain and evaluated its throughput and latency under different scenarios. We show that our blockchain implementation is capable of operating with a larger number of nodes without any scalability issues.

With the development of Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technologies, people find more and more blockchain applications in the IoT domain. While it is reasonable that IoT systems use hierarchical network structures, their sheer large scales may lead to hundreds or even thousands of non-leaf nodes, which may serve as full nodes when participating in IoT blockchains. From IoT blockchain design perspective, it is important to understand the scalability of the energy consumption feature of IoT blockchains. In our research we have collected real-world data that reflect the energy consumption features of several consensus algorithms of blockchain. In this work-in-progress paper, we report our results based on linear regression models. These models provide reference estimations of the energy consumption impact in designing blockchains for IoT systems.

The Bitcoin blockchain is a secure, distributed ledger that enables trusted transactions across untrusted entities. However, many applications need much faster transaction confirmation than that of the current Bitcoin blockchain. In this paper, we present a high-throughput, low-latency, deterministic confirmation mechanism called ACCEL for accelerating Bitcoin's block confirmation mechanism. Our key idea for achieving faster confirmation is the quick identification of singular blocks that provably belong to the blockchain. While it is impossible to determine with certainty if a block belongs to a blockchain when network delays are unbounded, singular block detection exploits the fact that the end-to-end latency between Bitcoin miners is substantially lower than the inter-block spacing and can be assumed to be upper bounded. ACCEL is especially suitable for low-latency, permissioned blockchains, where the block spacing can he optimized to the blockchain's small latencies to greatly improve throughput. We evaluate ACCEL's performance with extensive simulations and with a real implementation built with minimal changes to and fully compatible with the Bitcoin blockchain. We show that with appropriate bounds on the end-to-end latency, it is possible to reduce transaction confirmation latencies to milliseconds with ACCEL, and so meet the performance needs of a wide range of applications.

DC electric spring (DCES) has been proposed for improving the power quality and voltage stability of DC microgrid. In this paper, a distributed cooperative control is applied for multiple DCESs with the recently proposed novel topology. The novel DCES is composed of DC/DC three port converter (TPC), bi-directional buck-boost converter (BBC) and battery system, while the BBC and battery system form the energy storage system of DCES. The distributed cooperative control for multiple DCESs, including the primary control and secondary control, is mainly used to realize the power allocation of multiple DCESs, local voltage stability and the consensus of DC-bus voltages and state-of-charges (SOCs) of battery among DCESs. The primary voltage control, including the phased-shift control, decoupling control and droop control, is used to regulate the local voltage of each DCES. The secondary control based on consensus algorithm, including control of DC-bus voltage and battery SOC, can regulate the DC-bus voltage reference and realize the SOC balance of batteries among DCESs.
