The nature of information sharing in common distributed consensus algorithms permits network eavesdroppers to expose sensitive system information. An important parameter within distributed systems, often neglected under the scope of privacy preservation, is the influence structure - the weighting each agent places on the sources of their opinion pool. This paper proposes a local (i.e. computed individually by each agent), time varying mask to prevent the discovery of the influence structure by an external observer with access to the entire information flow, network knowledge and mask formulation. This result is produced through the auxiliary demonstration of the preserved stability of a Friedkin-Johnsen system under a set of generalised conditions. The mask is developed under these constraints and involves perturbing the influence structure by decaying pseudonoise. This paper provides the information matrix of the best influence structure estimate by an eavesdropper lacking a priori knowledge and uses stochastic simulations to analyse the performance of the mask against ranging system hyperparameters.

Quantized Decentralized Stochastic Learning over Directed Graphs

We consider a decentralized stochastic learning problem where data points are distributed among computing nodes communicating over a directed graph. As the model size gets large, decentralized learning faces a major bottleneck that is the heavy communication load due to each node transmitting large messages (model updates) to its neighbors. To tackle this bottleneck, we propose the quantized decentralized stochastic learning algorithm over directed graphs that is based on the push-sum algorithm in decentralized consensus optimization. We prove that our algorithm achieves the same convergence rates of the decentralized stochastic learning algorithm with exact-communication for both convex and non-convex losses. Numerical evaluations corroborate our main theoretical results and illustrate significant speed-up compared to the exact-communication methods. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Almost all real world activities have been digitized and there are various client server architecture based systems in place to handle them. These are all based on trust on third parties. There is an active attempt to successfully implement blockchain based systems which ensures that the IT systems are immutable, double spending is avoided and cryptographic strength is provided to them. A successful implementation of blockchain as backbone of existing information technology systems is bound to eliminate various types of fraud and ensure quicker delivery of the item on trade. To adapt IT systems to blockchain architecture, an efficient consensus algorithm need to be designed. Blockchain based on proof of work first came up as the backbone of cryptocurrency. After this, several other methods with variety of interesting features have come up. In this paper, we conduct a survey on existing attempts to achieve consensus in block chain. A federated consensus method and a proof of validation method are being compared.

In this paper, a composite control method is proposed to solve the voltage instability of nonlinear systems in distributed DC microgrids (MGs). The electrical coupling of each distributed generators (DGs) and the load uncertainties are considered as a lumped disturbance in each subsystem. It can be effectively estimated by the nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO). Then, a domination controller is designed for stabilizing DC/DC boost converter feeding constant power loads (CPLs). The proposed controller can guarantee fast voltage convergence in the sense of large signal stability. Moreover, by a consensus algorithm, the internal voltage state of DGs can be dynamically updated, and the voltage deviation caused by the droop control can be compensated in secondary layer. Therefore, a distributed microgrid (MG) model is established by simulation. A variety of conditions are conducted in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed distributed large signal stabilization algorithm.

This paper addresses a class of constrained distributed nonconvex optimization problems involving univariate objective functions, considering time-varying directed networks. We propose a novel algorithm named Extended-CPCA (E-CPCA), exploiting the notion of combining Chebyshev polynomial approximation and average consensus. The proposed algorithm is i) able to yield ε globally optimal solutions for any arbitrarily small given tolerance ε, ii) efficient in terms of both oracle complexities and inter-agent communication costs, and iii) distributed terminable when the specified precision requirement is met. The idea of leveraging polynomial proxy and consensus to deal with the mentioned problems over static undirected graphs is first presented in our previous work. The novelties of this work lie in i) the utilization of push-sum average consensus with distributed stopping mechanism to enable agents to acquire a proxy for the global objective over time-varying digraphs without much wastes of extra communications, and ii) the transformation of the optimization of this global proxy into a semidefinite program to help in obtaining solutions in a fast and reliable manner. Both the analysis and simulations are provided to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

With the rapid development of the mobile Internet and cloud computing, storage sub system's pressure increasing fast as the critical process needs more powerful engines. The paper realizes a high-performance distributed file system based on raft protocol. Our file system guarantees the reliability of data through replication. Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) and raft consensus algorithm provide atomicity, durability and file distribution. In order to solve the problem of data fragmentation in distributed systems, we design an automatic fragmentation and load balancing mechanism based on consistent hashing. Each file goes through the raft state machine so that a few machines crash without I/O error. We also implement the FUSE interface for the users to mount and work on files. Performance measurements under some typical workloads show that our file system has excellent I/O performance.

The existing cross-domain authentication mechanisms are established based on well-known Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) systems, where digital certificates issued by Certificate Authority(CA) serve to authenticate the identity of entities. The complex authentication path, accompanied by multiple signatures and verifications, causes low authentication efficiency. In addition, resulting from an “update gap” between Certificate Revocation List(CRL) and Online Certificate Status Protocol(OCSP) mechanism, the revoked certificates will be exposed to DDoS attacks. For addressing aforementioned two challenges, an efficient blockchain-based authentication and secure certificate revocation scheme is proposed. Based on the non-tamperability and traceability of the blockchain, the signature module of X.509 digital certificate is replaced by the certificate hash value which serves as the trust certificate between domains. Furthermore, a consensus algorithm is adopted for random number hash broadcasting to improve efficiency. Theoretical analysis shows the proposed scheme has the security characteristics of non-repudiation, anonymity and anti DDoS attack. The experimental results demonstrate the proposed scheme has the advantage over existing cross-domain authentication and certificate revocation scheme at communication and computing cost and security respectively.

The virtualization of Real World Object (RWO), coupled with its association with mobile edge computing (MEC) server, is gaining popularity in our today's internet of things (IoT) network. We see the prevalence in the savings it brings in the node's resources to execute the task by an application, thereby realizing the IoT vision. This paper looked at the interaction between a task group and the MEC server as a solution to reduce the average cost in the consumed power and delay in processing task and consequently to lead to a high network lifetime. To achieve this, we have added to the functionality of the virtual object (VO) and combined the ideas of the familiar schemes in a Mobile-edge learning and consensus algorithm. Markov's decision process is used to model a task group's choice, or the MEC server and solution got using a reinforcement learning algorithm. The simulations, when compared to some earlier schemes, showed significant improvement in power consumption, task processing delay, and network lifetime.

The Internet of Electric Vehicle (IoEV) energy trading is where the Electric Vehicles (EVs) provide energy to vehicles, grids, community, and buildings. A scalable, efficient, secure, and best price selection scheme is needed that supports the IoEV energy trading transaction. The traditional blockchain is used in the existing researches to achieve these needs. This paper proposes an efficient and secure energy trading scheme in IoEV energy trading using the IOTA blockchain. EVs privacy protection algorithm is proposed in which somebody cannot track EV's exact position. The Stackelberg game theory technique is used to select the best seller at a given time slot and to perform the negotiation between buyers and sellers on the energy price in an off-blockchain manner. The empirical analysis shows that the proposed scheme performs better than the traditional techniques in terms of efficiency, privacy, and energy price.

With the advent of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), data from various sensors embedded into vehicles or smart cities infrastructure are of utmost importance. This ecosystem will require processing power and efficient trust mechanisms for information exchange in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. To accomplish these requirements, both edge computing and blockchain have been recently adopted towards a secure, distributed, and computation empowered Internet of Vehicles (IoV). This paper surveys prominent solutions for blockchain-based vehicular edge computing (VEC), provides a taxonomy, highlights their main features, advantages, and limitations to provide subsidies for further proposals.
