Regardless of their variations, blockchains require a consensus mechanism to validate transactions, supervise added blocks, maintain network security, synchronize the network state, and distribute incentives. Proof-of-Work (PoW), one of the most influential implementations of consensus mechanisms, consumes an extraordinary amount of energy for a task that lacks direct productive output. In this paper, we propose Proof-of-Collaborative-Learning (PoCL), a multi-winner federated learning validated consensus mechanism that redirects the computation power of blockchains to train federated learning models. In addition, we present a novel evaluation mechanism to ensure the efficiency of the locally trained models of miners. We evaluated the security of our evaluation mechanism by introducing and conducting probable attacks. Moreover, we present a novel reward distribution mechanism to incentivize winning miners fairly, and demonstrate that our reward system is fair both within and across all rounds.

Double entry bookkeeping is a widely used accounting method that provides a system for recording financial transactions. Recently, this method has been applied to the field of distributed consensus algorithms, particularly the raft consensus algorithm. Raft [1] is an innovative algorithm that is used to achieve consensus in a distributed system. The application of double entry bookkeeping to this algorithm aims to provide a more efficient and reliable method for tracking transactions and ensuring consistency. The use of double entry bookkeeping allows for improved fault tolerance, as well as better detection and prevention of data inconsistencies. Additionally, it enables the detection of malicious activities, such as double-spending or tampering with the transaction history. This application of double entry bookkeeping to raft consensus algorithm shows promise for improving the overall security and reliability of distributed systems. This paper presents Raft’s application to distributed accounting ledgers with double entry accounting for a more transparent and fraud resistant transaction system. Double entry accounting is essential to modern commerce to rationalize transactions and prevent fraud. Using this concept of double entry with consensus can be used for preventing financial fraud. The killer ’feature’ in this paper is also the process of comparing research that is envisioned by the author and further improved or enhanced by AI or more commonly known language models. In this case this language model product is ChatGPT [2] by the OpenAI Research and Development Organization. We will also compare the results to get interesting insights on generated results.

The super-twisting algorithm is widely used in the design of controllers, observers, and differentiators. This paper investigates its application to achieve consensus among a team of peer agents characterized by first-order perturbed dynamics. Agents communicate through a directed, weight-balanced communication topology. The key contributions include employing the super-twisting algorithm to solve the finite-time robust consensus problem and developing a method for constructing a family of strict Lyapunov functions to analyze its robust stability. The analysis is based on the Lyapunov approach, and the necessary conditions for the stability of the closed-loop system are derived. Simulations supporting the theoretical analysis are also provided.

The consensus algorithm is the core component of blockchain technology and a key link to maintaining the security of the blockchain network. In the Raft consensus algorithm, since the term growth range is not specified in the algorithm, malicious nodes can obtain the leader status by increasing their term value, and the fairness of the Raft cluster leader election is damaged. To solve the above problems, in this paper, we restore the attack experiment, which is a malicious node gaining leader status by increasing its term value. Identify malicious nodes by dynamically adjusting the growth range of the term, thus achieving a defensive effect. The optimized algorithm resists malicious node attacks with a 79.4% probability and reduces the election time by 11.4% compared to the Raft consensus algorithm in the presence of malicious nodes. On the premise of ensuring high efficiency, the fault tolerance and security of the algorithm have also been significantly improved.

In the offshore wind farms connected to diode-rectifier-based high-voltage dc (HVDC), conventional distributed grid-forming control suffers from inherent coupling between active power, reactive power, and grid frequency, leading to large oscillations in reactive power and grid frequency during transient states. This work proposes a consensus-based distributed control to decouple power and frequency control. Firstly, a sparse communication network-based consensus algorithm is employed in each wind turbine controller, which enables local observation of the global average reactive power. On this basis, a dynamic virtual capacitance control and a droop-free frequency control are proposed, eliminating reactive power and frequency oscillations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by comprehensive simulation and Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HiL) results.

In order to solve the problem of poor scalability of the Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) algorithm widely used in blockchain, many variant PBFT-based consensus algorithms reduce the communication complexity by running consensus protocol in a hierarchical grouping structure. However, it also brings greater challenges to ensuring consistency for the whole network. In this paper, we innovatively add the inter-group supervision mechanism to the multi-layer PBFT consensus process, the representative nodes of each consensus group check the consensus messages in other groups to prevent the malicious primary from breaking inter-group consistency. And a group number assignment algorithm based on VRF is designed to ensure the effective implementation of supervision. Next, to maximize the scalability of the system model, an objective function of optimizing the consensus structure is analyzed. This objective function can find a hierarchical grouping structure with minimum communication complexity while maintaining 1/3 Byzantine fault tolerance. At last, a hierarchical strategy based on node reputation is designed, which further strengthen the security of the multi-layer consensus model. The performance of the protocol is evaluated by simulations, and the results show that it can effectively reduce the communication complexity of the system while ensuring the Byzantine fault tolerance.

Blockchain technology, which was originally created for cryptocurrencies, has significant research gaps when applied to the healthcare domain. This paper tackles two important research gaps concerning blockchain implementation in health-care: consensus algorithm and network design. While public blockchains are often undesirable for healthcare due to their inherent characteristics, private blockchains provide a more acceptable option. The major goal of this study is to offer an improved consensus algorithm and a blockchain network design that is tailored to healthcare requirements. The suggested system attempts to increase security, scalability, and decentralisation while tackling the unique constraints of maintaining sensitive patient data across a distributed network.

The agent based solutions are successfully applied in research and have impressive results. However, at the present, the agent technology is the realm of theory and laboratory simulation. The paper presents an attempt to bridge the gap. To facilitate migration of agent technology to the field, we propose to apply industrial standards such as IEC 61499 to design and implement the agent based algorithms. IEC 61499 is reference architecture for development of distributed systems. As an example of agent based solution to power system problem we consider Incremental Cost consensus (ICC) algorithm for solving economic dispatch problem. The original system was simulated in Matlab. The agent based 5 node system was developed using IEC 61499 and deployed to 5 industrial controllers, then tested. With the proposed approach the agent algorithms can be designed, tested and deployed within one framework without the overhead of re-coding the solution for different stages. The proposed approach enables directly executable agent solutions and paves the way to the industrial adoption of the agent technology in power system domain.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) presents smart transport that is capable of processing data and can self-organize for each vehicle. However, there have been security issues such as communication breakdowns between vehicles and information trust. Therefore, the trust model becomes an essential element in overcoming this problem. Various trust models have been suggested in the literature, including the model that utilizing consensus algorithm in the blockchain. This paper proposes an extension of the blockchain consensus algorithm based on Proof of Event (PoE) and Proof of Location (PoL) strategy, which call Proof of Event and Location (PoEL). Finally, it presents an initial experimental result on the effectiveness of our blockchain consensus algorithm extension. The simulation results show that the proposes blockchain consensus algorithm extension shows an increase in making blocks by 2% to 17% when the simulation is done with a different number of nodes.
