Blockchain-based secure and scalable supply chain management system to prevent drug counterfeiting

A drug supply chain comprises the entire process starting from producing a drug using raw materials to delivering it to the consumer. To ensure safe and reliable delivery of drugs to consumers, a well-managed Supply Chain Management (SCM) system is needed. In traditional SCM systems, tracking a drug throughout the chain is difficult, which increases the chances of counterfeiting drugs. Moreover, traditional SCM systems face the scalability issue because they can process limited information. In this paper, a blockchain-based scheme is proposed by using the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to solve the problems of traditional SCMs. Here, the information generated during the manufacturing of drugs, as well as the details of transactions, are stored in the IPFS, so that no data can be tampered with at any time. In the proposed scheme, smart contracts are implemented to automate the execution of the entire SCM system, and the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus algorithm is used to validate the transactions. Many experiments are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of throughput, communication cost, and many more. Security analysis and performance analysis of the proposed scheme show its efficiency compared to the well-known existing schemes.

Blockchain technology holds the potential to address security issues in the Internet of Things (IoT). However, its integration with IoT systems necessitates addressing substantial challenges related to lightweighting and scalability. This research introduces a novel architecture that seamlessly integrates IoT and blockchain technologies. A three-tier system design is proposed, enabling resource-constrained IoT devices to function as lightweight nodes. Integral to this architecture is the incorporation of certificate-less encryption, significantly reducing redundancy and resource overhead associated with certificate distribution and management. This approach simplifies the authentication and management processes for both nodes and end devices. Furthermore, the study introduces the GH-PBFT consensus algorithm, strategically optimizing system scalability and security. These pioneering solutions offer unprecedented possibilities for advancing blockchain applications within the intricate landscape of the Internet of Things.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) enables vehicles and Road-Side-Unit to communicate and exchange data, promising to improve transportation safety, efficiency, and convenience. However, to realize the full potential of IoV, secure and fast traffic accident information (TAI) communication among IoV nodes are essential. The Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT)-based blockchain for IoV secures TAI;it is prone to high message overhead and transaction latency, which causes TAI transmission between IoV nodes to be delayed. This paper proposes a new consensus algorithm, named HN-mPBFT (Healthy Node based Modified PBFT), specifically designed for IoV. The HN-mPBFT consensus method reduces message overhead and transaction delay by reducing PBFT consensus phases while achieving consensus among healthy nodes. According to security analysis, HN-mPBFT is secure from Sybil and DDoS attacks. Performance analysis shows that HN-mPBFT reduces transaction latency by 50%.

An incomplete ordered partition (IOP) is a helpful structure for representing people's opinions. For a set of elements representing the opinions of a group of people for one problem, one should determine an element called consensus that best describes these elements. Finding consensus for an IOP collective is crucial in making decisions. However, finding one 2-optimality consensus for IOP collectives is an NP-hard problem that has yet to be widely considered for resolution. This study proposes evolutionary algorithms to solve this problem: one genetic algorithm (GA) and one hybrid algorithm (HA). The GA algorithm is based on the traditional genetic algorithm. The HA algorithm focuses on growing the balance of exploitation and exploration. The simulation shows that the two proposed algorithms find high-quality consensus, and the HA generates a higher-quality consensus. © 2024 IEEE.

Distributed Control of Large-Scale Inverter Air Conditioners for Providing Operating Reserve Based on consensus With Nonlinear Protocol

Rapidly increasing renewable energies bring more fluctuations to the power system and put forward higher requirement on operating reserve for maintaining the system balance. Traditional generating units are phasing out and may be insufficient to satisfy this reserve requirement in the near future. Therefore, much attention is paid to demand-side regulation resources. Inverter air conditioners (IACs) account for about 30% of the total power consumption in cities and have huge regulation potential. However, the control of large-scale dispersed IACs is intractable. Most existing studies adopt the centralized control scheme to regulate IACs, while it requires a high-cost communication infrastructure and induces privacy concerns. To address this issue, this article investigates the distributed control scheme of large-scale dispersed IACs for providing operating reserve. First, a normalization approach is proposed to uniformly quantify the regulation capacities of heterogeneous IACs. Then, a distributed consensus algorithm with a nonlinear protocol is developed for IACs to achieve the regulation objective under guaranteeing customers' comfort requirements. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorem, the convergence of the proposed algorithm on large-scale dispersed IACs is proved to be always guaranteed. Finally, numerical studies verify the feasibility and performance of the proposed method, which features better data privacy protection and less communication and computation burden than the centralized control methods.

The rapid advancement of networking and manufacturing technologies has facilitated the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices connecting to networks. Just like humans, these devices, spanning various domains worldwide, necessitate interconnection. Therefore, cross domain identity authentication becomes crucial to ensure secure communication and mitigate cyber threats. Blockchain, as an emerging decentralized ledger technology, has garnered widespread attention due to its ability to effectively address the issue of single point of failure in traditional cross-domain identity authentication solutions. However, most cross-domain identity authentication solutions based on blockchain are limited by their reliance on existing single-chain blockchain architectures, which significantly restricts the performance of cross-domain authentication. In this paper, we present a split-chain based efficient authentication mechanism for cross-domain IoT. Specifically, we design an innovative split-chain blockchain structure that enhances the efficiency of authentication through parallelization. Additionally, we have developed a consensus algorithm that guarantees the security and fairness of the authentication system. Extensive experiments have been conducted to demonstrate that our scheme increases throughput by approximately 40% compared to MCCA, one of the most recent existing cross-domain solutions.

Blockchain is a distributed, decentralized ledger mechanism with a various features. It is used in diverse applications nowadays, from financial sector to password management. It does not have any central tool to validate and verify the transactions, yet every transaction in the Blockchain is secured and verified. This is achieved because of a consensus algorithm in the network. Latest study reports show that emergence of quantum computing will impact the overall safety of Blockchain and its internal working. Attacks using Grover's and Shor's algorithm can threaten the hashing and public key schemes in cryptography. It will force a complete redesign of the Blockchain systems to withstand quantum attacks. So there is a need to develop quantum-safe Blockchain systems. consensus mechanisms like Proof of Work (PoW) and Signing algorithms like Elliptic Curve Cryptography used in Blockchain can be modified to overcome quantum attacks. Here a comparative study and analysis of different consensus algorithms developed using post-quantum cryptosystems are done, which can be implemented in Blockchain systems to make them quantum safe.

Distributed bounded finite-time cooperative control algorithm for multiple nonlinear manipulators

For the position synchronization control problem of multiple nonlinear manipulator systems, a bounded distributed cooperative controller is designed in this paper. Based on a fixed-time position observer, a distributed finite-time synchronization controller is designed by using the saturated control technique and homogenous system theory. Compared with the existing results, the proposed distributed cooperative control algorithm not only guarantees finite-time convergence but also satisfies the input saturation. Finally, some numerical simulation results are presented to verify the feasibility of the theory results with six-degree-of-freedom robots.

A multi-objective optimisation of relay protection settings in distribution networks based on improved grey wolf algorithm

In order to overcome the problems of high data mining accuracy, poor effectiveness, and long relay protection action time in traditional methods, a multi-objective optimisation method of relay protection settings in distribution networks based on improved grey wolf algorithm is proposed. Random forest algorithm is used for mining relay protection data in distribution networks. Taking the relay protection settings as the parameters to be optimised, a multi-objective optimisation function for relay protection settings is constructed using parameters such as relay protection action time, transmission line weight coefficient, and weight factors of vulnerability and sensitivity constraints. The improved grey wolf algorithm is used to solve the objective function and obtain relevant results. According to the analysis of relevant test results, the maximum data mining accuracy of the proposed method is 98.75%, good optimisation effect, and a maximum relay protection action time of 0.87 s. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

An efficient collocation algorithm for third order non-linear Emden–Fowler equation

The study presents a novel algorithm for solving third-order non-linear equations (Emden–Fowler type), which can be applied to various physical models. The algorithm uses a quintic trigonometric B-spline collocation method and a quasilinearization technique to avoid the non-linearity term in the equation. The study established a comprehensive error analysis for the proposed algorithm and proved that it has fourth order, i.e., (O(h4)) convergent. The algorithm’s ability to handle singular behavior at the point x=0 and its faster rate of convergence exhibit a promising approach to solving such problems. The study also validates the theoretical results through numerical experiments and shows that the proposed algorithm has a faster rate of convergence in comparison to the existing methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.
