Blind equalization allows the transmitted signals to maximize their spectral efficiency, but it is limited by the convergence time of used algorithms. In this paper, the authors propose a new frequency blind equalization method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which drastically reduces the transient state delay of the algorithm's convergence process. It consists of reusing a proper number of received OFDM symbols that have been stored in a memory. Simulations results reveal that a quasi-instantaneous equalization process can be achieved. In addition, the implementation issues are discussed in this paper.

This paper proposes a novel blind multi-target beam-forming algorithm to perform a multi-target beam-former for guidance data link system. The proposed algorithm exploits the knowledge of the pseudo-noise (PN) code used in data-link communication system to generate the transmitted command as reference signal. A novel approach, which a band-pass filter is used, is adopted to improve anti-jamming performance in environment with strong interference. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposal can achieve a superior anti-jamming performance than Multi-target Least Square constant modulus algorithm(MT-LSCMA) in environment with strong jamming.

Due to some drawbacks such as instability of the analog receiver in wideband conditions, all-digital parallel receiver (APRX) has become more and more attractive. Based on the structure of an APRX, which is presented in Telecommunications and Data Acquisition (TDA) progress report of Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a novel parallel algorithm for fractionally spaced equalization (PFSE) is proposed. Utilizing the constant modulus algorithm (CMA), PFSE takes best advantage of its data overlapping characteristic and achieves perfect combination with the APRX's structure. Simulation results show that the performance of PFSE obviously predominates that of the T-Spaced Equalizer, with hardly any loss of performance compared with the corresponding serial FSE.

According to disadvantages of low convergence rate, big steady-state and poor ability to track time-varying channel of traditional constant modulus blind equalization algorithm(CMA), the variable momentum factor decision feedback blind equalization algorithm based on the constant parameter error function(VMCDFECMA) is proposed by introducing the variable momentum factor into the momentum decision feedback blind equalization algorithm based on the constant parameter error function(MDFECMA). The proposed VMCDFECMA can improve convergence rate and tracking per-formance, and reduce steady-state error via making full use of the features of the decision feedback equalizer, the momentum term,and the error functions. The performance of the proposed VMCDFECMA algorithm is simulated with underwater acoustic channels.

Blind equalization based on wavelet neural network optimizing by genetic algorithm was proposed for the conventional gradient algorithm is sensitive to the values of the initial parameters. At beginning, a segment finite data was collected for genetic algorithm to get a group of asymptotically optimal initial parameters. And then, gradient-descent algorithm was adopted to train network to trace and compensate the channel characteristic to implement equalization. Convergence and stability analysis of the proposed algorithm is also provided. The goodness of the proposed blind equalization algorithm is demonstrated with the aid of a simulated the non-linear channel.

In the digital transmission system, constant modulus algorithm (CMA) is a famous blind equalization to overcome the inter-symbol interference without the aid of training sequences. But for the non-constant modulus signals such as higher-order QAM signals, the CMA just achieve moderate steady-state mean square error (MSE) which may not be sufficient for the system to obtain adequate performance. By studying the amplitude relationship between different constellations of QAM signals, a new amplitude transformation method is proposed. According to such method the non-constant modulus signals can be changed to be constant modulus, and then using it to the CMA the zero steady-state MSE can be obtained. The efficiency of the proposed method is proved by computer simulations. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. This paper proposes a powerful symmetry-constrained concurrent blind filter (SC-CBF) for adaptive multi-antenna beamforming systems. The proposed SC-CBF beamformer is created according to the concurrently activated symmetry-constrained constant modulus algorithm (SC-CMA) and symmetry-constrained decision-directed filter (SC-DD). Both SC-CMA and SC-DD are obtained from a generalized ideal weight property, which is derived based on an ideal blind beamforming weight expression. Following the generalized ideal weight property, the performance of the SC-CBF beamformer is quite robust to the error propagation occurring in low signal-to-noise ratios compared to the traditional CBF one. The simulation results have shown that the proposed SC-CMA and SC-CBF beamformers provide much faster convergence rates than the existing adaptive blind beamformers.

A new maximum likelihood estimation approach for blind channel equalization, using variational autoencoders (VAEs), is introduced. Significant and consistent improvements in the error rate of the reconstructed symbols, compared to constant modulus equalizers, are demonstrated. In fact, for the channels that were examined, the performance of the new VAE blind channel equalizer was close to the performance of a non-blind adaptive linear minimum mean square error equalizer. The new equalization method enables a significantly lower latency channel acquisition compared to the constant modulus algorithm (CMA). The VAE uses a convolutional neural network with two layers and a very small number of free parameters. Although the computational complexity of the new equalizer is higher compared to CMA, it is still reasonable, and the number of free parameters to estimate is small.

The increasing demands by even expanding networks of wireless and mobile devices have put huge strains on the allotted spectrum where challenges are related to providing better quality of service (QoS) and higher channel capacity. Though in this regard, multi input multi output (MIMO) systems are regarded as one of the viable options, their subsequent modification called cooperative MIMO have evolved into better solutions where virtual transmit-relay and receive pairs enhance channel capacity limits and facilitate sharing of resources. Challenges continue to be in the domain of developing better approaches of capacity enhancement. The work focuses on such aspects and reports the experimental outcomes of four different types of equalization techniques for a relay assisted three-node two-hop MIMO cooperative communication system. The equalization techniques that we have employed are namely Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE), Zero Forcing (ZF), one blind method namely constant modulus algorithm(CMA) and have also implemented a training based equalization using Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE).

A new Decision-Feedback Equalizer (DFE) is proposed to overcome Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) faster in the communication system without the aid of training sequences. Unlike the conventional DFE, the feedforward filter component and the feedback filter component in the proposed DFE operate with constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and Decision-Directed (DD) algorithm respectively. It makes full use of the advantages of the CMA's "eye-opened" ability and DD's faster convergence rate ability. Consequently the proposed DFE has the faster convergence rate than the conventional DFE which can improve the performance for the system. Simulations with underwater acoustic channels are presented and the simulation results are shown to prove the efficiency of the proposed DFE.
