A high speed structure for blind equalization of 8PSK signals is presented based on FPGA. The filter section is designed with a parallel structure based on time-domain convolution. In the case of short delay spread, this structure is superior to the parallel structure based on sub-convolution filter bank in literature on computational complexity. Applying this structure to the blind equalization of 800Mbps 8PSK signals, test results show that the speed requirement is met, the hardware resources are furthest saved, and the blind equalizer converges fast.

A critical assumption in applying Godard CMA algorithm for blind deconvolution and equalization is the assumption of an independently distributed source. Almost all the applications in the literature have based their implementations on this assumption. To our knowledge, no research has been done on the effect of source correlation on adaptive blind deblurring of images through CMA, and this paper addresses that gap, coming up with a novel model of addressing the source correlation problem in the image deblurring through CMA.

A new anti-jamming method is proposed combining adaptive array with direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) techniques in mobile satellite communication system. Different with the conventional depreading process, the proposed method modifies DSSS despreador, in which the output data are blindly processed. It overcomes the problem that DSSS signal often has very lower SNR, which is difficult to be captured in constant modulus array processing, especially when strong interference/jamming signals exist coincidentally.

We extend the affine combination of one fast and one slow least mean-square (LMS) filter to blind equalization, considering the combination of two constant modulus algorithms (CMA). We analyze the proposed combination in stationary and nonstationary environments verifying that there are situations where the absence of the restriction on the mixing parameter can be advantageous for the combination Furthermore, we propose a combination of two CMAs with different initializations. Preliminary simulations show that this scheme can avoid local minima and eventually can present a faster convergence rate than that of its components.

With a single-layer architecture and a linear transfer function (LTF), CMA cannot perform very well for the nonconvex and nonlinear cost function due to the convex decision region. Both nonlinear transfer function (NTF) and multilayer architecture (MLA) can generate a nonconvex decision region and thus improve the equalization performance. The objective of this paper is to investigate that it is NTF or MLA that does play an essential role in the performance improvement. To catch this goal, in this paper, three CMA-criterion-based methods including NTF-based CMA (NCMA), LTF-based multilayer CMA (MCMA) and NTF-based multilayer CMA (NMCMA) are proposed. Simulation of proposed algorithms on 16-QAM symbols indicates that the NTF is the prerequisite condition for the performance improvement, based on which MLA can futher enhance the equalization performance.

In the digital transmission system, constant modulus algorithm (CMA) is a famous blind equalization to overcome the inter-symbol interference without the aid of training sequences. But for the non-constant modulus signals such as higher-order PAM signals, the CMA just achieve moderate steady-state mean square en-or (MSE) which may not be sufficient for the system to obtain adequate performance. By studying the amplitude relationship between different constellations of PAM signals, a new amplitude transfomiation method is proposed. According to such method the non-constant modulus signals can be changed to be constant modulus, and then using it to the CMA the zero steady-state MSE can be obtained. The efficiency of the proposed method is proved by computer simulations. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. For greatly overcoming disadvantages of low convergent rate and high mean square error of constant modulus algorithm(CMA) and defects of high computational complexity of polyspectra algorithms, sign kurtosis maximization adaptive algorithm (SKMAA) for updating blind equalizer weight vectors is developed based on kurtosis of stochastic signals, the stochastic ascend approach, and sign algorithm. In this algorithm, the sign of the equalizer output signal function is extracted and used as the updating factor of equalizer weight vectors to decrease the computational load of updating blind equalizer weight vectors. Accordingly, performance of the SKMAA in convergent speed and residual mean square error (MSE) is much better than that of CMA. The efficiency of SKMAA is proved via computer simulation of the underwater acoustic channel (UWAC) equalization.

This paper investigates a wordlength effect on an adaptive phased array antenna using the constant modulus algorithm (CMA). The antenna is a flat four-beam compact phased array whose main beam can be switched into four directions by using four one-bit phase shifters. A beam with maximum received power is exploited as an initial beam for CMA. The wordlength investigation will be shown in term of the signal constellations, SINR trajectories and antenna patterns.

This paper proposed to use the Joint Approximate Diagonalisation of Eigen Matrices (JADE) algorithm for the cascade multistage constant modulus (CM) array in order to recover correlated cochannel signals in the multipath environment. The JADE algorithm was need as the initial-weight estimator. Furthermore, we propose a concept to compromise between the high computational complexity of the JADE algorithm and the degradation of the signal-captured performance of the cascade multistage CM array as well. The experimental results show that this scheme has the signal-captured performance close to MVDR array technique, which is the best, in comparison with our proposed scheme, and the original cascade multistage CM array.

A blind adaptive step-size time-domain receiver for multi-carrier code-division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems is presented. Adjustment rules for the receiver tap-weight as well as its step-size are based upon the stochastic approximation of the constant modulus (CM) criterion. The ability of the proposed receiver to detect the desired user in multipath fading channels at full load is assessed. Sensitivity to the various initial values of the step-size and the adaptation rates of the algorithm is also investigated.
