With the prevalence of wireless technologies, cloud computing and the rapid growth of deployed smart sensors in the past few years, we live in an increasingly interconnected world. These technologies have fostered the dissemination of the Internet of Things (IoT). They form the foundation for smart homes and smart cities. context aware devices and ambient computing techniques have expanded the application of the IoT into new areas such as assisted living, eHealth, and elderly care. However, there are challenges to analyze the large volumes of sensor and context data generated by these devices. Also, there are serious security and privacy concerns especially in the area of health care that need to be addressed. This paper gives an overview of the state-of-the-art technologies for ambient assisted living (AAL) and proposes an architecture based on SOA.

In this paper, we describe efficient ontology integration model for better context inference based on distributed ontology framework. context aware computing with inference based on ontology is widely used in distributed surveillance environment. In such a distributed surveillance environment, surveillance devices such as smart cameras may carry heterogeneous video data with different transmission ranges, latency, and formats. However even smart devices, they generally have small memory and power which can manage only part of ontology data. In our efficient ontology integration model, each of agents built in such devices get services not only from a region server, but also peer servers. For such a collaborative network, an effective cache framework that can handle heterogeneous devices is required for the efficient ontology integration. In this paper, we propose a efficient ontology integration model which is adaptive to the actual device demands and that of its neighbors. Our scheme shows the efficiency of model resulted in better context inference.

context awareness has been an intensive focus of many researchers to develop applications for smart devices like smart phones and tablets. Researchers are working in this domain for more than one decade and many applications have been developed to demonstrate and exploit potential of context awareness. It is a never ending process because of rapid developments in capabilities of these hand held smart devices. Many researchers exploited online context awareness computing which creates direct dependence on internet. Our aim is to utilize contexts to ease user's task and hence full fill their needs without depending on internet. This paper presents an innovative and noble approach to impart offline context awareness computing in smart devices. An android application is developed that uses offline context engine with the help of defined context analyzers such as call analyzer, media analyzer etc. to show important reminders without taking any input from users. This application makes smart devices more intelligent and helps user in reminding his / her task. The application analyzes offline data in user's device in order to get its input which will be processed by offline context engine. The application extends time and location based awareness parameters and helps in reminding users for their important events through other context aware parameters such as analyzing calls, media, events, em ails and app usage.

A Mechanism for Air Health Monitoring in Smart City using context aware computing

In recent days, the concept of smart sustainable cities has come up, which guarantee the residents with quality lifestyle. This cities ensure the overall socio economic development by providing smart services contributed by smart technologies. One of the most significant pillars of the Smart City is to ensure healthy and sustainable environment by making the city pollution free as far as possible, to ensure the smart health of the citizens. In this work, a frame work is proposed using context aware computing approach to monitor the air health of urban region. The proposed frame work is designed to help in sensing air pollutant parameters using smart sensors and generate alert using context if there is a threat of air pollution. Here, the Input layer optimization technique is also proposed. It has been shown that, the Input layer optimization technique has discarded the unwanted overheads of the proposed frame work without degrading the efficiency of the system.

Heart failure is one of the most common cause of death in the world. The real-time health monitoring system with the advent of the Internet of things has attracted growing attention in the health care industry, which can help reducing the death rate of heart failure. Despite the recent success of these efforts, there have been some limitations, such as response time, scalability, latency and fault tolerance. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical architecture with four layers to develop health care systems. In the proposed model, the vital signs of a patient are measured by means of a body sensor network and sent to a smart health care system. Each of these layers is related to a certain level of heart failure. Therefore, in the proposed model, simple and low-risk heart failure can be detected quickly before it reaches to a dangerous level. Empirical results confirm a significant improvement in terms of response time and scalability in comparison with the state of the art techniques.

context-aware devices are able to take advantage of fusing sensory and application specific information to provide proper information on a situation, for more flexible services, and adaptive user interfaces (UI). It is characteristic for handheld devices and their users that they are continuously moving in several simultaneous fuzzy contexts. The dynamic environment sets special requirements for usability and acceptance of context-aware applications. context-aware applications must be able to operate sensibly even if the context recognition is not 100% reliable and there are multiple contexts present at the same time. We present an approach for controlling context-aware applications in the case of multiple fuzzy contexts. This work has several potential applications in the area of adaptive UI application control. Our study is focused on the adaptation of applications representing information in handheld devices. The design of controllers and experiments with real context data from user scenarios are presented. Experimental results show that the proposed approach enhances the capability of adapting information representation in a handheld device. User reactions indicate that they accept application adaptation in many situations while insisting on retaining the most control over their device. Moreover, user feedback indicates that abrupt adaptations and instability should be avoided in the application control. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Sense Everything, Control Everything (SECE) is an event-driven system that lets nontechnical users create services that combine communication, location, social networks, presence, calendaring, and physical devices such as sensors and actuators. SECE combines information from multiple sources to personalize services and adapt them to changes in the user's context and preferences. Events trigger associated actions, which can control email delivery, change how phone calls are handled, update the user's social network status, and set the state of actuators such as lights, thermostats, and electrical appliances.
