Diabetes is an incurable disease where the body is not able to maintain the blood sugar level as the glucose in the blood is not utilize due to the destruction of the beta pancreatic cell of the liver. Blood sugar level of body is a very important factor for health and it should be maintain within the desired level or else this would result in complications and often serious damage to the body. Therefore treatment must be provided in case of high or low blood sugar level. In case of high blood sugar level, insulin must be injected and in case of low blood sugar level we should inject glucagon into the body. This paper is concerned on advanced method of simulation that can be used to implement a real insulin and glucagon pump that can work in real time to prevent the fatal effects of diabetes on body. This system also covers all the safety critical system aspect required to build a system that has a direct effect on human life. To provide better insulin and glucagon management and to reduce the need for human supervision, we have implement a control algorithm for the insulin and glucagon pump to automate the delivery process. The control algorithm adapts the glucose metabolic rate and determine the appropriate amount of insulin or glucagon to be delivered into the body. Method that is followed is effective and efficient in maintaining the blood sugar level. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the system is very easy and user friendly that makes it easier for the patient and doctor to use. Different sets of testing were used to insure the safety and efficiency of the insulin pump simulation.

An adaptive double-stage PMD compensator capable of compensating first- and second-order PMD simultaneously is experimentally researched by introducing genetic algorithm for the first time. In order to verify the effect of the double-stage PMD compensator, an experimental optical transmission system at a bit rate of 10 Gbit/s is setup. In experiments, degree of polarization (DOP) of received optical signal is adopted for PMD monitoring. Experimental results show that genetic algorithm is effective and powerful in first- and second-PMD compensation. The DOP of received optical signals after PMD compensation can reach a value larger than 0.97 within 180 milliseconds during which genetic algorithm runs 50 iterations. PMD measurement indicates that the first- and second-order PMD in transmission link can simultaneously reach the minima after PMD compensation at the operation wavelength.

Prior to the initial steam admission to 1,000MW steam turbine in a thermal power plant after its construction, the turbine control system was verified by using a process model developed based on the heat balance and actual process operating data of same type thermal power plant. The total system where the process model was integrated into the controller hardware with input and output modules is generally called verification system. Unlike a widely used simulator composed of only personal computer and software in the laboratory, this verification system have a great difference which can be connected with actual speed control system and field devices by use of actual signal lines. So, if it is used for verification of control system and field devices immediately before steam turbine start up, though there is no steam from boiler to turbine, the field adaption test cab have a very similar result because the steam control valve in the field can be actuated according to the controller's command and its position can be transferred back to the controller. The above mentioned method is very helpful to verify the control algorithm and such field devices as poisoners, servo valves, limit switches and pressure switches. This paper introduces the whole procedure and the result of simulation test using the above mentioned verification system with actual control hardware and the steam turbine model.

A fractional PD controller is denoted by PD mu, where mu is an additional parameter which increases the flexibility of tuning. In this work, we present an algorithm about how to tune a fractional PD controller which is applied to a fractional plant. Firstly we consider an integer approximation of the fractional plant in order to use the method of dominant roots, thus we can find the tuning parameters (K-p and T-d correspond to the proportional and differentiation constants, respectively) given the specifications of setting time and damping ratio. Once the parameters K-p and T-d are set, the unknown parameter mu of the fractional controller is found by computing the error between the response of the fractional plant and its corresponding integer approximation. The value of mu parameter is determined by the minimum error and this values is used to tune again the parameter T-d. Satisfactory results are shown using this algorithm applied to fractional controllers for fractional plants.

Asymptotically null controllable with bounded controls (ANCBC) is a crucial prerequisite for ensuring the global performance of saturated systems. This paper addresses the challenges inherent in multi-input multi-output systems with actuator saturation, focusing on achieving global stabilization within the ANCBC framework and managing non-uniform saturation characteristics. To this end, we propose a nonlinear control algorithm that utilizes a redesigned saturation function with a dynamic saturation level, which self-adjusts based on a first-order differential strategy. This approach effectively mitigates non-uniform saturation across dimensions by appropriately selecting both constant and time-varying parameters within the differential equation related to the dynamic saturation level. Even with power electronic converters in almost every grid connected device, there are still several looming questions ahead, especially in regard to previously very rigid operating conditions. With the integration of non-linear consumers and inverter based distributed energy resources, the balanced nature of the power system may be impaired leading to asymmetrical voltages at the points of common coupling. This is particularly true for islanding and smart grid application. This paper aims at presenting the behavior of grid connected converter under asymmetrical voltages in unbalanced power systems. Detailed analysis of the asymmetrical voltage influence on key control aspects will be presented within the paper. The results for classically controlled grid connected converter operating under asymmetrical voltages at the point of common coupling will be presented. Special attention will be given to the influence of voltage asymmetry on important aspects of the control such as phase-locked loop and current controller.
