Fuzzy control iterative algorithm for beam uniformity enhancement of gas laser through boundary layer flow is presented. The iterative process of the proposed algorithm is controlled by the fuzzy control theory. In each loop, the MSE and the TUI value are evaluated to fuzzily determine which one is relatively greater, leading to different approaches in the iteration. Computer simulation results proved the effectiveness of the proposed method. GerchbergSaxton algorithm, profile smoothing algorithm and fuzzy control iterative algorithm are applied to the diffractive optical element design for the correction of laser beam distorted by a Blausius boundary layer. Fuzzy control iterative algorithm leads to better result than Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm and profile smoothing algorithm. Both mean square error and top ununiformity index of the result obtained by fuzzy control iterative algorithm are rather low.

The paper proposed a new coordinated control framework and algorithm used for relieving traffic congestion in the scope of exit-ramp of the expressway and its downstream intersection. The queue of auxiliary convergence road is selected as monitoring variable in the coordinated control algorithm, and downstream intersection cycle, split and auxiliary road green time are calculated. The control variables small-step adjustment algorithm is presented. The throughput flow duration of exit-ramp by the coordinated control strategy decreases at least 10% than by the fixed control algorithm. Combined with road network delay data, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the coordinated control algorithm.

This paper presents the control and failsafe algorithm of the closed loop air suspension system on the basis of analyzing the air suspension system and understanding the vehicle dynamics. The control algorithm determines target heights from driving conditions and driver's commands and actuators including a compressor, two reversing valves, and four air spring valves to achieve the target heights. The failsafe algorithm determines the type of faults and enables appropriate failsafe actions depending on the type of faults. To verify suggested control and failsafe algorithm, the simulations and the vehicle tests are conducted.

Closed-loop artificial pancreas using subcutaneous glucose sensing and insulin delivery and a model predictive control algorithm: preliminary studies in Padova and Montpellier

New effort has been made to develop closed-loop glucose control, using subcutaneous (SC) glucose sensing and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) from a pump, and a control algorithm. An approach based on a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm has been utilized during closed-loop control in type 1 diabetes patients. Here we describe the preliminary clinical experience with this approach. Six type 1 diabetes patients (three in each of two clinical investigation centers in Padova and Montpellier), using CSII, aged 36 +/- 8 and 48 +/- 6 years, duration of diabetes 12 +/- 8 and 29 +/- 4 years, hemoglobin A1c 7.4% +/- 0.1% and 7.3% +/- 0.3%, body mass index 23.2 +/- 0.3 and 28.4 +/- 2.2 kg/m(2), respectively, were studied on two occasions during 22 h overnight hospital admissions 2-4 weeks apart. A Freestyle Navigator(R) continuous glucose monitor and an OmniPod insulin pump were applied in each trial. Admission 1 used open-loop control, while admission 2 employed closed-loop control using our MPC algorithm. In Padova, two out of three subjects showed better performance with the closed-loop system compared to open loop. Altogether, mean overnight plasma glucose (PG) levels were 134 versus 111 mg/dl during open loop versus closed loop, respectively. The percentage of time spent at PG > 140 mg/dl was 45% versus 12%, while postbreakfast mean PG was 165 versus 156 mg/dl during open loop versus closed loop, respectively. Also, in Montpellier, two patients out of three showed a better glucose control during closed-loop trials. Avoidance of nocturnal hypoglycemic excursions was a clear benefit during algorithm-guided insulin delivery in all cases. This preliminary set of studies demonstrates that closed-loop control based entirely on SC glucose sensing and insulin delivery is feasible and can be applied to improve glucose control in patients with type 1 diabetes, although the algorithm needs to be further improved to achieve better glycemic control.

A review of longitudinal/lateral integrated control technology for in-wheel motor automotive chassis

The in-wheel motor-driven electric vehicle (IWMEV) has high controllable degrees of freedom, fast motor response, high system integration, and a compact vehicle structure, making it the best platform for implementing advanced vehicle dynamics control technologies. Chassis integrated control overcomes the limitations of individual actuators, resolves conflicts and redundancies, and ensures that the system maximizes the potential of available actuators, thereby enhancing vehicle dynamics, safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. This paper discusses the longitudinal/lateral integrated control technologies in the two-dimensional dynamic integrated control of IWMEV, such as longitudinal anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution system (EBD), regenerative braking system (RBS), brake-by-wire system (BBW), longitudinal fault-tolerant control (FTC), lateral active front steering system (AFS), electric power steering system (EPS), electronic stability program (ESP), steer-by-wire system (SBW), and direct yaw moment control system (DYC). The focus is on the integrated control algorithms among longitudinal, lateral, and longitudinal/lateral chassis subsystems, the current research status, future development trends, and the factors influencing chassis integrated control. Additionally, the paper provides insights into the future development directions and ideas for IWMEVs.

Revisiting the control Systems of Autonomous Vehicles in the Agricultural Sector: A Systematic Literature Review

The primary objective of this article is to systematically review and categorize the diverse control algorithms applied in autonomous vehicles within the agricultural sector from 2000 to 2023. This systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using Scopus and Web of Science databases to ensure a comprehensive coverage of peer-reviewed research. The geographical scope of this review is global, encompassing studies from various regions to present a holistic perspective on the technological advancements in autonomous agricultural vehicles. By employing a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, this study meticulously analyzed published articles to identify, extract, and synthesize data on various control algorithms, which include their application and effectiveness in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability. The findings reveal a significant evolution in autonomous vehicle control systems, highlighting a trend towards integrating artificial intelligence (AI)-based control algorithms. These advancements suggest potential navigation and operational efficiency improvements, contributing towards sustainable development goals (SDGs) related to sustainable agriculture. This research presents a novel systematic categorization of control algorithms for autonomous agricultural vehicles by integrating control strategies into a multi-dimensional framework based on algorithmic type (linear, nonlinear, AI-based), application context (path tracking, stability control, obstacle avoidance), and agricultural field type (dry, paddy). Unlike previous reviews that primarily classify algorithms based on technical specifications alone, this study uniquely maps these algorithms to real-world agricultural challenges, providing a structured framework that aligns control methodologies with practical implementation scenarios. Coordinated central-local control strategy for voltage management in PV-integrated distribution networks considering energy storage degradation

In PV-integrated distribution networks, there is increasing interest in developing cost-effective voltage control strategies that utilize PV inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS). However, energy storage often plays a secondary role in mitigating the inherent uncertainty of PV generation, and the associated maintenance and replacement costs of batteries due to improper scheduling are frequently overlooked. To address this issue, this paper proposes a coordinated central-local control strategy for voltage management in PV-integrated distribution networks, incorporating the cycle life degradation of energy storage. In the proposed strategy, the central controller formulates a multi-stage Wasserstein-based distributionally robust optimization problem based on the requirements of the distribution system operator (DSO). In the local hierarchy, each PV inverter adjusts reactive power output via the control curves improved by the central controller to manage rapid PV fluctuations. Additionally, battery replacement costs are allocated per discharge/charge cycle and incorporated into voltage control costs to assess the impact of short-term scheduling on long-term battery degradation. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy achieves the global optimal decision according to the required robustness and economy in the central hierarchy, while ensuring appropriate scheduling of BESS and minimizing the impact of scheduling on battery lifespan. Furthermore, the proposed strategy can effectively reduce voltage deviations caused by PV fluctuations.

Experimental analysis of energy-saving and eco-friendly refrigeration system design with condensate water management

In this study, a low-cost plug-in refrigeration system was developed for commercial-scale production. The design includes an innovative condensation pan, a humidification unit, and utilizes airflow techniques. The system operates with environmentally friendly R290 refrigerant and features a specially developed control system that ensures seamless coordination among its components. In this study, designs based on original defrost water removal methodologies were developed. Thus, it was aimed to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability by efficiently removing defrost water without overflow. For these purposes, the system was tested for four days in two modes (Mode-1: defrost water is removed by electrical resistance (PTC) and condenser waste heat, and Mode-2: PTC is not used, defrost water is transferred to the ultrasonic humidifier by water pump). For both modes, the cold room was kept at two different relative humidity ranges (90-95 % and 100 %). Carbon emission reductions of up to 337.66 kg CO2/m2 and energy savings of up to 29.52 % were obtained in the system to reduce the PTC running time with Mode 2. The refrigeration process has been achieved for high performance, and a sustainable design was presented. The highest coefficient of performance (COP) and second law values of the system were calculated as 3.10 and 56.24 % on Day-3. The refrigeration process was realized with high performance, and a sustainable system with rational long-term results was created. Furthermore, this innovative design is feasible and has commercially preferable payback periods.

Cold start of PEMFCs based on adaptive strategies: A comprehensive review

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) hold immense promise for clean and efficient energy generation. However, controlling cold start at subfreezing temperatures remains a significant challenge that hinders their widespread commercialization, particularly in regions with harsh winters. Adaptive strategies dynamically adjust control parameters based on real-time operating conditions to optimize cold start performance, are regarded as powerful tools to overcome this hurdle. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art in PEMFCs cold start strategies, with a particular focus on adaptive approaches. This review delves into the complexities of cold start and explores various self-starting and assisted-starting methods that leverage adaptive approaches. An in-depth comparison of different adaptive strategies, including power optimization, temperature management, gas purging, control algorithm and oxygen starvation for cold start, are conducted comprehensively. The current research status is briefly outlined, highlighting potential areas for future inquiry. Toyota's breakthrough in rapid cold start achieved through adaptive strategies is analyzed. The critical gaps and limitations of these strategies are evaluated, future directions as well as suitable applications of different strategies are suggested. This work not only provides insights into the previous research progress, but also provides an outlook on future research directions of cold start techniques.
