The suspension system, as the connecting component between the wheels and the body, is an important structure that affects the comfort of the vehicle. Among various electronically controlled suspensions, the semi-active suspension has the advantages of low power consumption ratio, high reliability and relatively simple structure. This paper investigates the problem of controlling quarter-vehicle semi-active suspension system involving a solenoid valve damper. The control objective is to regulate well the heave motions of the chassis despite the road irregularities. In this paper, based on a single-sensor control strategy for semi-active suspension, the damping effect of this strategy on random road surfaces was verified by building a quarter-vehicle suspension model, and the superiority of this strategy was verified by comparing it with passive suspension and neural network adaptive control. The electronic control unit hardware was then designed in conjunction with the experiments and connected to the real vehicle, and the changes before and after body acceleration control were detected and compared using a data acquisition card, and the whole controller was shown to meet the expected control objectives.

Optimal power distribution control algorithm is investigated for parallel HEVs. In order to find the optimal control algorithm, optimization problem is definied, which finds the optimal control variables to minimize the fuel consumption while satisfying the constraint equations. Scale factors in weighting the motor usage are selected as the control variables on how to distribute the demanded vehicle power into the electric motor and the internal combustion engine. Dynamic models of the HEV powertrain are represented with state space equations. The optimization problem is solved for the single shaft parallel HEV and double shaft parallel HEV using the HEV performance simulator developed in MATLAB Simulink and the mathematical optimization algorithm, SQP which is based on FORTRAN for multi-variables design optimization. It is found that the optimal control algorithm of the double shaft HEV provides better fuel economy than the single shaft HEV since the recuperation energy due to the regenerative braking can be increased by the engine off and clutch operation.

The Seeker cubesat has an automated guidance, navigation, and control system that performs a series of maneuvers in order to complete extravehicular spacecraft inspections. The Seeker control system is designed to meet constraints on thruster firing time, mission time, and maneuver performance given vehicle limitations and other uncertainties. The thruster placement and cant angle were selected to provide adequate acceleration due to thruster firing for vehicle maneuvering. The control algorithms include a proportional-integral-derivative controller for translation, and a phase plane controller for rotation. The desired firing time per thruster is calculated from the current state errors. control system performance was verified through Monte Carlo simulation and integrated testing. The Seeker control system was utilized during an inspection demonstration of the Cygnus spacecraft.

Due to the decline of vacuum degree, the braking system of hybrid and electric vehicle shall not use vacuum booster any longer from the economics or logical point of view. This paper puts forward the design requirements of integrated-electro-hydraulic brake system (I-EHB) and the designing scheme of a novel I-EHB based on these design requirements. Hydraulic control unit (HCU), which consists of 6 high speed on-off solenoid valves, is an important part of I-EHB. HCU can be used to control the hydraulic pressure of wheel cylinders. Then we set up a simulation model and test the design with it. The results shows a high performance of the system and the hydraulic pressure of wheel cylinders are under precise control.

A disk type MR fluid damper based on shear mode has been developed and the experimental results show that the dynamic characteristics of a disk-type MR fluid damper can be controlled by the application of an external magnetic field with a low voltage. In this paper, the effectiveness of on-off control based on feedback of rotational speed, proportional (P) control and proportional-integral (PI) control, both based on feedback of disk vibration eccentricity, on controlling the rotor vibration are experimentally studied. It is shown that the simple on-off control was the most effective method in attaining the required objective, but as expected requires pre-knowledge of the switching speeds and there is a transient response with large amplitude at switching speeds. P and PI control can control the rotor vibrations, but both exhibit significant chattering which can adversely affect the control performance and still require to properly choose the controller parameters.
