This paper is to present a technological solution for implementing a force feedback haptic interface in the context of virtual reality interaction applications. The real-time haptic algorithms are implemented in TwinCAT runtime environment to control drivers via EtherCAT fieldbus. A 3-dimensional visualization model for the virtual reality interaction is developed through Virtual Reality Toolbox in Matlab/Simulink and interconnected with TwinCAT software through the Automation Device Specification communication protocol. The using of Matlab/Simulink with model-based programming method instead of the C++ programming language allows researchers in haptic domain to focus more on the control engineering issues than programming skills. Some experimental tests and verification of the haptic algorithms with visualization model are presented.

The presented study describes a method for evaluating control strategies for shading devices. The method is based on dynamic lighting simulations with RADIANCE and DAYSIM and explores energy, daylight supply and visual comfort parameters at the same time. In order to include the glare aspect more effectively in dynamic building simulations, a simplified glare measure "Daylight Glare Probability simplified (DGPs)" is presented and validated for situations when the sun does not hit the eye directly. For the evaluation of the solar thermal loads, a simplified method based on RADIANCE and DAYSIM is described to calculate dynamically the energy flux through facades for external mounted shading devices. The evaluation of different simulated shading control strategies show that the commonly used manual control strategies hardly activate the shading in summer. Therefore, the solar loads in summer for these strategies are very high and at the same time glare and low contrasts at the visual display unit (VDU) occur. The automated cut-off strategy seems to be a good compromise between energy and comfort aspects, especially in summer.

Experimental activities are necessary parts of scientific work in active vibration control to investigate functionality and quality of the designed control algorithm. Current research is motivated on the usage of smart materials and novel control approaches. This study is focused on the presentation of the laboratory test model, designed for the experiments with active vibration control on the beam structure. The structure is connected to the moving platform and equipped with piezoelectric actuator, which is placed in one main leg of this construction, and with piezoelectric accelerometer, which senses the acceleration of the top of this assembly. Electrodynamic shaker is also a part of the device. It is connected to the moving platform and excites the whole structure. In the paper, there is also a part dedicated to the identification procedure of the laboratory model as well as the creation of corresponding mathematical model. At the end, the control algorithm is presented and evaluated in the simulation and on the real structure.

this paper proposes a real time emulator for Photovoltaic Generator (PVG), permitting easy experimentation, for control and diagnosis algorithms tests. The DS1104 platform is utilized in order to implement the model developed in Matlab/Simulink software. The APS1102A Programmable DC/AC Power Source is utilized to emulate the current-voltage characteristics of the PVG model implemented in the DS1104 platform. The proposed emulator is tested and validated by considering real conditions variations (namely, temperature and irradiance), and as well as, by injecting some frequently occurring PVG faults. The PVG emulator proposed shows a perfect reproduction of the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics, and can easily handle control and diagnostic algorithms.

For wavefront disturbance to be corrected, an adaptive optics system acts as a low pass filter, for noise of wavefront sensor-as high pass filter. For most of AO systems there is a time delay in wavefront sensing and processing, and the bandwidths will be limited by the time delay. In this paper, three kinds of transfer functions (close-loop, open-loop and error transfer functions) for an AO system with time delay are analyzed. The four criteria of bandwidths are defined and compared between a simple proportional-integral (PI) control algorithm and a Smith control algorithm. By using the Smith algorithm, the bandwidths are improved. The experimental results of the transfer functions and bandwidths with our newly developed 61 elements system are also presented.

A hierarchical multi-controller system designed to manage the swarm of unmanned vehicles, moving on the terrestrial surface, is investigated. The flowchart of the hierarchical control system is worked out, in which the system distributed controller is performed at the strategic (the organizing controller) and functional-logical (vehicle onboard controllers) levels. It is shown, that mathematical model of the onboard controller consists of two parts: part, describing the actual semantics of embedded control algorithm, and part, describing interpretation of control algorithm by Von Neumann type controller, unfolding in real physical time. The formula for time delay estimation, when embedded algorithm is the linear-cyclic one, is obtained. A time of delay is included into the matrix equation describing the semantics of data processing, which together with the description of the vehicle with caterpillar propellers movement on terrestrial vehicle forms a complete model of the swarm unit. Description of the organizing controller operation is obtained when realization steps of algorithm if accessing the milestone, including formulae for time estimation of accessing the milestone by the only unit and by the whole swarm, as far as formula for evaluation of time which only unit spend waiting the whole swarm. Theoretical results are confirmed by the five-units-swarm operation modeling.

These techniques have been implemented using film or ceramic capacitors and have been shown to achieve high energy utilization and comparable effective energy density to electrolytic capacitors. Practical applications require control schemes capable of handling transients. This paper takes a comprehensive view of the SC energy buffer design space and examines tradeoffs regarding circuit topology, switching configuration, and control complexity. This paper presents a technique for designing an adaptive nonlinear controller for the pitch rate of the Cessna Citation X business jet aircraft. The proposed control algorithm includes 3 major control elements, namely a baseline Proportional-Integral-Derivative linear controller, an approximate dynamic inversion, and an adaptive neural network. The dynamic inversion is performed using online estimates of the control and state matrices, determined from the Recursive Least Square method. The simulation results showed that the proposed control algorithm was perfectly capable of tracking a given reference signal defining a desired dynamic for the pitch control. The flight controller was tested on 63 different flight conditions across the flight envelope of the Cessna Citation X, and demonstrated good adaptation performance. The gain of the Proportional-Integral-Derivative controller remained constant for all flight conditions, while the adaptation was achieved by the neural network and the dynamic inversion. The control algorithm was then tested with different parameters, and very good performance was obtained for given reference signals.
