According to the new standards ( grid codes) Renewable Energy Sources are required to remain connected to the grid during short grid disturbances and to guarantee high power quality, which imposes severe demands upon the grid-side converters. This paper presents a novel current control method for the PWM boost type rectifier under extreme unbalanced operating conditions. The proposed method provides complete elimination of low order harmonics in line currents and output voltage under generalized unbalanced input voltages and impedances. In addition, the input power factor can be adjusted in a wide range. Moreover, due to constant switching frequency, line current harmonics are concentrated in the high frequency region, thus facilitating filtering. Analysis of switching stress and line current distortion carried out on a simulation model demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper describes the control algorithm of a utility connected microgrid, based on independent control of active and reactive power (PQ control) and working in centralized operation mode. The microgrid under investigation is composed of three configurable units: a generation unit, a storage unit and a load. These units are interfaced with the microgrid through a Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and are controlled by the nodes of the communication system by means of IEC 61850. A set of tests have been conducted to evaluate the microgrid behavior.

The sector of machining hard materials like aluminium, steel or nickel-base alloys is dominated by conventional machine tools because they provide high reliability in production time and process accuracy. However, processing soft materials or products with low quality requirements are getting more interesting for standard industrial robots because of their low investment risks and short delivery periods. On the other hand, disadvantages like low absolute accuracy and low structural stiffness limit the area of industrial applications. Current research activities are focusing on compensation algorithms to reduce the static offset induced by process forces. Thus, this paper presents an approach of a control system which adapts automatically the feed rate depending on the cutting scenario. Linked with a Computer-Aided-Manufacturing system, predefined machining data is analyzed and stored on a separate Edge-Device. This Edge-Device communicates with the machining spindle and monitors the spindle power to monitor the cutting scenario. On this basis, deviations of the milling tool in the areas of entering and leaving the material could be reduced.

Agile fixed-wing aircraft combine the fast and efficient characteristics of conventional fixed-wing platforms with the high maneuverability and precision of rotorcraft. To expand their range of application, a key challenge is the development of control systems that harness this increased maneuverability, with the goal of enhancing or expanding the possible motions of conventional fixed-wing flight. This work presents a control architecture that enables agile fixed-wing platforms to track a time-parametrized, three-dimensional position trajectory which is unconstrained by common limitations arising from an aircraft kinematic model assumption, including minimum airspeed, heading rate, and climb rate. The proposed system is a cascaded controller designed in two parts. First, a singularity-free, quaternion-based inner attitude control loop is designed to track attitude references. Then, an outer position control loop is constructed to determine the required thrust force and reference attitude that will drive the inertial position errors to zero. This outer loop is a hybrid controller, consisting of a control strategy for the steady regime and another for agile maneuvers. A switching logic is derived to ensure that any change of position controller occurs when the two stability regions overlap, retaining stability for the overall system. The resulting controller does not require any attitude reference to perform aggressive maneuvers, greatly simplifying the trajectory generation problem. controller performance is first verified through numerical simulation using a high-fidelity aircraft model. A Software in the Loop simulation, which accounts for sensor noise, state estimation, and discrete-time implementation of the control algorithm, is performed before finally implementing the control system on a physical platform. Advanced engine control is an important requirement for the efficient operation of future reusable engines, facilitating a safer and more economical engine operation. For this reason, modern control strategies are extensively studied in recent years, mainly through the use of simulation environments. An important development step is to test the performance and robustness of the control algorithm at real test benches. The present paper describes the first steps towards the use of an reinforcement learning based controller on a N2O/C2H6 22N green propellant thruster. The control objectives are given by regulating the mixture ratio and combustion pressure. The existing test bench is modelled in EcosimPro / ESPSS. Based on the simulation model deep reinforcement learning is used to train the controller and domain randomization is used to increase the robustness. The overall goal is to transfer the controller from the simulation model to the real test bench. Finally, preliminary experiments demonstrate the basic functionality of reinforcement learning based controllers for real rocket propulsion systems.

This paper introduces the advanced control designed for the single-phase AC/DC traction converter. This type of control provides direct current control and sufficient control of output voltage. The proposed control strategy is based on second order general integrator phase locked loop (SOGI-PLL), which is used for trolley voltage synchronization. In this case SOGI-PLL evaluates voltage position, amplitude and frequency. These data are used for precise and robust current control, which uses PR controller. The behavior of designed control and SOGI-PLL synchronization is analyzed by both simulations and experiments made on developed 1.5 kW laboratory prototype.

The inlet isolator of a hypersonic vehicle operating in the range of M4 to M6 is expected to support a precombustion shock train, the presence and length of which is coupled to both fuel-air mixing and combustion phenomena. Critically, the shock train must be contained within the available isolator length. Failure to contain the shock train is known as inlet unstart and leads to a significant loss of inlet mass capture with a corresponding reduction in thrust. As a means of preventing unstart and optimizing engine performance, this paper explores the use of active isolator shock train control using a characteristic model based All-Coefficient Adaptive control approach. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this control approach with comparison to a tuned conventional controller. In particular, as parameters in the scramjet isolator plant deviate from their nominal values, the adaptive controller is able to adjust in real time and maintain a stable system response.

This paper presents control algorithm for dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) to improve voltage quality problems such as voltage sags/swells in distribution systems. When voltage sags/swells occur, possibly, due to faults and some load switching, DVR has to detect the problem and inject appropriate voltage component as soon as possible. The paper proposes a dynamic control based on feedforward and feedback control. The proposed control enhances the performance of DVR. In the proposed control, voltage and current closed-loop controllers are considered. A simple distribution system with sensitive load and DVR at 22 kV is used to test the proposed control algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed control given a better voltage quality and enhances the performance of DVR.

For collision avoidance problem, some methods have been researched in autonomous control field. However it is difficult to apply them to an aircraft because there are many practical issues such as calculation problem, infeasibility, complex dynamics of aircraft and so on. In this paper, we apply MPPI(Model Predictive Path Integral control) to an aircraft. MPPI has optimal control algorithms based on stochastic sampling of trajectories and can perform in real-time with GPU computing. Finally, some simulations of collision avoidance illustrate the safety and efficiency of this method and prove the usefulness in aeronautical field.

control and overall system performance of an upper limb exoskeleton, as a wearable robot, is dictated in part by the human machine interface and the implemented control algorithm. The ultimate goal is to develop algorithms so the operator feels as if the exoskeleton is a natural extension the body. The aim of the current research is to compare the system performance of a 7 degree of freedom wearable upper limb exoskeleton (EXO-UL7) using two multi-sensor admittance controllers (1) task space control and (2) joint space control. Multiple force sensors are needed due to the redundancy in the system (7 DOF). This redundancy is explored and a method is developed to calculate a closed form inverse kinematics (IK) solution. The IK solution is used to develop the task space controller. The joint space controller uses the transpose of the jacobian to resolve sensor forces into joint torques. Six subjects performed a peg in hole task. Six targets covered the main part of the device workspace. Velocities and Interaction forces at the upper arm, lower arm, handle and tip were recorded during the experiments. Power exchange between the subject and device was calculated. Task space based control was about 11% lower in mean interaction energy for the peg in hole task compared to joint space control. Task completion time increased with both controllers compared to back-driving the device.
