We have been developing a new vehicle, "Tread-Walk 2 (TW-2)", which supports walking for the elderly. TW-2 is controlled by the natural walking movement. In our previous work, we tried to estimate the user's anteroposterior force from the motor current value without a force sensor in order to possible to have a more intuitive operability of TW-2. But, a user of this vehicle experienced some discomfort both when he started walking and when he stopped walking. This problem is caused by inaccurate estimation of the user's anteroposterior force at the heel contact and the toe off. The estimation of the user's anteroposterior force is greatly related to inaccurate estimation of the vertical component of the ground reaction force, which is approximated by the square waveform in the stance phase. In order to construct a control algorithm to improve the operability of TW-2, we accurately estimated the user's anteroposterior force. We therefore proposed the new method to approximate the vertical force in order to estimate the user's anteroposterior force accurately. This paper describes the new method to approximate the waveforms of the vertical forces as isosceles trapezoidal waves with a slope changed depending on the change of the walking velocity. By comparing the estimated anteroposterior force using the new method with the measured value using the force plate, for two young subjects whose physical characteristics were different, the waveform pattern of the estimated force was found to be similar to that of the measured force. This showed that the proposed method could possibly be useful for accurate estimation of anteroposterior force.

On the basis of analyzing production characteristics of air separation unit, predictive fuzzy control algorithm was proposed combining predictive control with fuzzy control. In the algorithm, predictive control was responsible for control accuracy and fuzzy control was to provide control variables when predictive model was not convergent as well as uncorrected control variables when the model had converged. A good control of air separation unit with characteristics of large inertia and time delay was obtained by application of the algorithm. The practical running indicates that the algorithm has good control performance and great practical value.

The paper presents a scaled experimental stand for applying different algorithms onto a braking system with anti-lock capability, in order to determine the best way to control the braking process. The stand consists of a test wheel with an electro-mechanic brake caliper rolling against a powered tambour track. The angular velocities of both rolling wheel and track are monitored by a PC using custom hardware and software. The functional parameters of the test stand can be modified, thus employing different approaches for the anti-lock function of the braking process.

Several different control algorithms for high-order inertial system were researched recently in China. Since different algorithms have similar effects, the consistency of these algorithms was first proposed in this paper in the view of control principle. The superheated steam temperature system of a 600 MW unit was taken as an object. The characteristics of time domain and frequency domain, spectrum of local disturbance signals, robustness under model perturbation, and the real actuator output were analyzed and discussed. The conclusion is that the different algorithms applied in practice do have consistency;these algorithms have intrinsic deficiency, which is derived from the structure of the algorithms themselves. Finally it has carried on prospect for future research and some problems meriting our attention.

the electronic stability control system is one of most advanced active safety technology for modern vehicles. It enhances vehicle active safety effectively. The control algorithm of combination with logic gate and PID control is brought out. The PID parameters are produced by logic gate control and the wheel brake torque to keep vehicle stabilization is outputted by PID method. The method possess of the merit of decreasing computation process and increasing computation speed. Simulation results show that the proposed control algorithm can be used to control the vehicle more stably under various conditions.

Based on the PID(Proportional-Integral-Differential) control algorithm, by analyzing the control system with control variable varying in the form of arbitrary function, a simple control method with control variable varying in the form of arbitrary function was presented, i.e. PID control algorithm with set value which is constant in small zone. The paper introduced the mathematical model and the parameter tuning method of the PID control algorithm briefly, analyzed and the selection principle of the parameters of the advance control, lag control, ideal control. And used the MATLAB to simulate and verify this algorithm, the simulation results are satisfactory. Tests were carried out on different equipments and in different experimental conditions;results of the experiment are successful. Then this method is applied to the practical engineering practice, proves that it makes remarkable effects on the practical utilization.

Abstract The development of the Artificial Pancreas has been growing rapidly during the last 10 years with the advent of Glucose Monitoring Systems and insulin delivery pumps. Several works have appeared testing different control algorithms for defining the proper insulin dosage in type I diabetic patients, focused on driving them into a healthy range of blood glucose (BG) concentration. However, practically none of them has previously considered to quantify the inherent degree of difficulty in achieving normal glycaemic values. Hence, in this work a novel index, named Glucose controllability (GC), is presented using the parameters of simplified models and easily measurable patients data. It allows performing a certain classification procedure before the implementation of any control algorithm. To test this methodology, Predictive Functional control (PFC) is applied for insulin dosage computation. After that, through the well-known control Variability Grid Analysis (CVGA) plot, it is evaluated if the GC index is able to anticipate how “controllable” each diabetic person could be. The validation was performed with a database of 30 virtual type I diabetic patients. The final simulation results are shown here together with the conclusions and future works.

Research on controlled Volume Operation Method of Large-scale Water Transfer Canal

The controlled volume method of operation is especially suitable for large-scale water delivery canal system with complex operation requirements. An operating simulation model based on the storage volume control method for multi-reach canal system in series was established. In allusion to the deficiency of existing controlled volume algorithm, the improved controlled volume algorithm of the whole canal pools was proposed, and the simulation results indicated that the storage volume and water level of each canal pool could be accurately controlled after the improved algorithm had been adopted. However, for some typical discharge demand operating conditions, if the previously mentioned algorithm was adopted, then it certainly would cause some unnecessary gate adjustments, and consequently the disturbed canal pools would be increased. Therefore, the idea of controlled volume operation method of continuous canal pools was proposed, and corresponding algorithm was designed. Through simulating practical project, the results indicated that the new controlled volume algorithm proposed for typical operating conditions could comparatively and obviously reduce the number of regulated check gates and disturb canal pools for some typical discharge demand operating conditions, thus the control efficiency of canal system could be improved.

PID-fuzzy adaptive yaw control algorithm is used and complete wind wheel position adjustment in 0rder to automatically track the changes of wind direction. Input to the change of wind direction and wind direction, the output is kp、ki and kd, its fuzzy adaptive controller are designed. The simulation software used in this paper is Matlab-Simulink 7.0. Wind turbine to follow changes in wind direction changes, improve wind energy efficiency, implementing agencies to avoid the frequent movement, optimize unit performance, verify the effectiveness of the yaw control algorithm.

The Smart Distribution Grid concept is conceived as a means to optimize and to improve the reliability and operation of the electric distribution network. The numerous and different types of information generated and time synchronized at a distribution network by smart meters, coupled with a communication infrastructure and data base management system provide the means to generate useful control algorithms. Attaching the location of each smart meter at the distribution grid to the monitored data opens the door to numerous advanced applications. control applications lend themselves for logical stratifications unique to the intended targets of control. Demand response has a rippling effect all the way to generation and also to distribution assets performance. Distribution automation could be local to the distribution network served by a distribution substation. Fast transient phenomena, harmonics problems can be highly local, limited to a particular feeder or at customer premises. The data requirements for each of the control applications mentioned before can be quite different from each other and also depend greatly on the location at the network. This paper tries to illustrate how the physical behavior of the electric energy delivery system dictates the requirements for data generated by the sensing devices to design algorithms for Smart Distribution Grid control applications.
