SPIN is an autorotational state of aircraft at high angles of attack characterized by large rotation rate in yaw when compared with rates in roll and pitch. In a typical spin, an aircraft rotates about its center of gravity and an axis perpendicular to Earth descending vertically at high speed following a downward corkscrew path [1]. It is one of the most dangerous phenomena encountered by many of the modern fighter aircraft required to fly in high-angle-of-attack flight regimes. Improper functioning of aerodynamic control surfaces during spin makes it difficult for the pilot to control the aircraft, leading to many a problem, such as spatial disorientation and uncontrolled motion, resulting in fatal accidents and subsequent loss of aircraft.

This paper presents the control and failsafe algorithm of the closed loop air suspension system on the basis of analyzing the air suspension system and understanding the vehicle dynamics. The control algorithm determines target heights from driving conditions and driver's commands and actuators including a compressor, two reversing valves, and four air spring valves to achieve the target heights. The failsafe algorithm determines the type of faults and enables appropriate failsafe actions depending on the type of faults. To verify suggested control and failsafe algorithm, the simulations and the vehicle tests are conducted.

A bearingless switched reluctance generator (BSRG) is developed, which is operated in full-period generating mode. In the proposed 12/8 bearingless generator, two sets of windings are embedded in the stator. The coils of excitation winding wound on each stator pole are separately controlled, whereas the coils of generation winding are connected in series for each phase. To begin with, the voltage equations of the generator are built for the dynamic analysis model. Then, the mathematical model of radial force is derived for the control of the unbalanced magnetic force. Furthermore, a control algorithm is introduced to generate the required radial forces and output voltage. Finally, dynamic analysis results are included to verify the proposed analysis.

In this paper, an adaptive feedforward control framework is proposed for the suppression of aircraft structural vibrations induced by gust perturbations to increase the resilience of the flight control law in the presence of the aeroelastic/aeroservoelastic interactions. Currently, aircraft with nonadaptive control laws usually include roll-off or notch filters to avoid aeroelastic/aeroservoelastic interactions. However, if changes in the aircraft configuration are significant, the frequencies of the flexible modes of the aircraft may be shifted, and the notch filters could become totally ineffective. With the proposed approach, the flexible modes can be consistently estimated in real time via a proven system-identification algorithm. The identified flexible modes information is used in the proposed adaptive feedforward control algorithm to adjust the parametrization of the basis functions in a feedforward controller. Along with the recursive least-squares estimate, the feedforward controller is adjusted, and the structural vibration of the aircraft induced by the gust perturbation can be largely suppressed. An F/A-18 active aeroelastic wing aeroelastic model with gust perturbation based on the linear aeroelastic solver formulation is developed as a test bed to demonstrate the proposed adaptive feedforward control algorithm.

Thyristor-based static transfer switches (STS's) are feeding sensitive loads with two independent sources by monitoring voltage quality. STS is used in distribution networks to provide connection to alternate sources of ac power for critical loads when the main source fails. In distribution system sensitive loads are endangered by either voltage sag or voltage unbalance. Simulation results show that, the STS-2 of the IEEE benchmark [4] in voltage sag and transient conditions operates properly;but do not detect voltage un-balance. In this paper, operating of the STS-2 under unbalance distribution network - as a scenario to improve the power quality for a three-phase critical load in industrial areas - is discussed. This paper presents an improved algorithm to detecting voltage unbalance with the STS-2 based on the ratio of the negative and the positive sequences. Simulation is presented in the well known software ATP/EMTP. Also load and network parameters are based on the industrial network of the Naghadeh - Iran.

The Smart Grid concept is conceived as a means to optimize and to improve the reliability of the electric delivery system. The numerous and different types of information generated at the remote sites at a distribution network by sensors and smart meters coupled with a communication infrastructure and data base management system provide the means to generate useful control algorithms. However, control applications lend themselves for logical stratifications unique to the intended targets of control. Demand response has a rippling effect all the way to generation and to some extend to distribution assets performance. Distribution automation could be local to distribution circuits served by a medium voltage distribution substation. Fast transient phenomena, harmonics problems can be highly local, limited to a particular feeder or at a customer premises. Hence the data requirements for each of the control applications mentioned before can be quite different from each other. This paper tries to illustrate how the physical behavior of the electric energy delivery system dictates the requirements for data generated by he sensing devices to design algorithms for Smart Grid control applications.

We have been developing a new vehicle, "Tread-Walk2", which supports walking for elderly. A control algorithm to improve the operability has been constructed. As the first step, we accurately estimated the user's anteroposterior force from the motor current value without the force sensor. This method is to develop a new mechanical model that considers the friction forces of the treadmill and remove the modeled friction losses from the output. However, we need the vertical force in order to develop a mechanical model. Thus, we proposed the new method to estimate the vertical force without the force sensor. This paper describes the new method to approximate the waveforms of the vertical forces as square waves by adding the user's weight as a parameter to the stance phase. By comparing the estimated anteroposterior force using the new method with the measured one using the force plate, the waveform pattern of the estimated one was similar with that of the measured one in two young subjects whose physical characteristics were different. This showed that the proposed method might possibly be useful for estimating the anteroposterior force in real-time.

In this paper, a novel optical packet switch is proposed, which uses a set of shared fiber delay lines (FDLs) and a set of shared tunable wavelength converters (TWCs) to resolve optical packet contentions. In addition, two control algorithms, i.e., Fiber-First (FF) and Wavelength-First (WF), are proposed to schedule optical packets. Performance of the novel switch is evaluated by means of simulation experiments. Simulation results show that based on either of these two control algorithms, the switch can achieve super performance without employing a lot of FDLs and TWCs. Moreover, the performance of FF and WF is compared. Detail analyses are also given in this paper.
