Micromachined Scanning Grating Interferometer (mu SGI) array offers a viable solution to the high resolution, large bandwidth, non-contact and high throughput metrology. Parallel active control of mu SGIs is necessary to reduce the effect of positioning errors and ambient vibration noise. To achieve individual control of the mu SGIs, the gratings in the mu SGI are micromachined on Silicon membranes, which can be electrostatically actuated. These tunable gratings are designed to have sufficient range of motion (similar to 400nm) and sufficient bandwidth (similar to 50kHz) for effective noise reduction. The tunable gratings are fabricated successfully using Silicon on Insulator wafers with a two mask process.

Temperature plays a prominent role for living beings in the earth. People from various countries use to survive with different temperature based on the location of the country in the globe. Agriculture mainly depends on different temperature for crop cultivation and plantations. Many wildlife animals habituated to survive with particular temperature. Keeping all those things on hand, it is an impressing need to have an strong temperature maintenance system in order to bring the different temperature for the survival of different living beings in any location in the world. The artificial intelligence based on control algorithms having an inherent quality of automatically satisfying the above need with minimum human intervention is deisgned in this paper. It can be applied to the hotels, resorts and wild life sanctuaries to maintain artificial environment setup. The PC sections contains a list of data that has environmental details of various states of different countries and the selected state will be transmitted to the server. The server contains the actual environmental status of that state. The server again transmits the current temperature condition and accordingly the relay in the room that operates either a fan or a heater to provide necessary temperature.

This contribution deals with the parallelization of multibody systems by making use of co-simulation techniques. The overall model is split into a user-defined number of subsystems, which are coupled and computed by means of a co-simulation approach. The co-simulation methods considered here are weak coupling approaches, which implies that each subsystem is solved independently from the other subsystems within a macro-time step. Information (i.e. coupling variables) is only exchanged between the subsystems at certain communication-time points (macro-time points). Within each macro-time step, the unknown coupling variables are approximated by extrapolation polynomials. The separate integration of the subsystems is the crucial point for a parallelized computation. A main drawback of many co-simulation implementations is that they are based on a constant macro-step size. Using an equidistant communication-time grid may in many practical applications be not very efficient with respect to computation time, especially in connection with highly nonlinear models or in context with models with strongly varying quantities. Here, a co-simulation approach is presented which incorporates a macro-step size and order control algorithm. Numerical examples show the benefit of this implementation and the significant reduction in computation time compared to an implementation with an equidistant communication-time grid.

Temperature control is present in many industrial processes, making this skill mandatory for the control engineers. For this reason, different training temperature platforms have been created for this purpose. However, many of these platforms are expensive, require elaborate facility accommodations, and have higher heating and cooling times, making not suitable for teaching and training. This paper presents a low-cost educational platform for temperature control training. The platform employs a Peltier module as a heating element, which has lower heating and cooling time than other thermal system implementations. A low-cost real-time thermal camera is employed as a temperature feedback sensor instead of a standard thermal sensor. The control algorithm is developed in Matlab-Simulink and employs an Arduino board as hardware in the loop to manage the Peltier module. A temperature control experiment is performed to show that the platform is suitable for teaching and training experiences not only in the classroom but for engineers in the industry.

In this paper, the control algorithms for three-phase three-wired shunt active power filter under distorted or unbalanced mains voltages conditions are analysed. According to the compensation objectives, a direct method, based on the power balance concept is used and compared to the standard pq algorithm. It allows to impose systematically sinusoidal mains currents in phase with the balanced symmetrical positive sequence system of the supply voltages in spite of mains or load asymmetries. Simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the proposed algorithm and to prove the effectiveness of the design and control strategy.

In support of reduction in emissions, Siemens Energy Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd (SEITL) developed the optimised pilot burner for its SGT-300 engine to produce ultra-low emissions for a wider range of engine load. The optimised pilot burner has been developed based on the standard pilot burner, with the size of the pilot gaseous fuel injection holes optimised, resulting in a significant reduction in its effective area. To validate the design change, a single-shaft SGT-300 engine (SGT-300-1S) configured with the optimised pilot burners and the rest of the combustion hardware as standard was tested at various operating conditions including natural turndown as well as with turndown control temperature at part load by Variable Guide Vane (VGV) modulation. An intelligent control algorithm for combustion was used, and its settings for the optimised pilot burners were refined by pilot split mapping during engine testing. The same engine configured with standard pilot burners was also tested to provide reference data. Extensive instrumentation and measurement equipment were used in the engine test to measure NOx, CO, and Unburnt Hydrocarbon (UHC) emissions and combustion system performance, such as fuel supply pressures and temperatures, combustion hardware metal temperatures, and combustor and casing dynamic pressure. Engine test results show that the optimised pilot burner, when operated with the refined intelligent control method for combustion system, can achieve a wide load range of sub 9 ppmvd emissions for the SGT-300-1S engine.

This work considers the use of Stewart Platforms with hydraulic actuators as a tool for developing motion control algorithms in open-sea applications, such as cargo transfers between ships and floating platforms, whose main goal is to attenuate the undesired relative oscillations caused by waves and tides. The Stewart Platform is one of the most representative examples of parallel manipulators, comprising two parallel bases connected by six linear actuators. The coordinated movement of these actuators allows both bases to have relative motions with six degrees of freedom, with superior precision and load/weight ratios when compared to serial manipulators. In this context, this work is motivated by the ongoing development of two coupled hydraulically driven Stewart Platforms. The first one is intended to emulate the movement of a ship deck under the influence of sea waves, while the second one, positioned on top of the first, will be used as a compensation device for controlling the motion imposed by the first one. This paper focuses on describing the design considerations of the lower platform. In the first part of the paper, we describe the main features of this research project. Then, we focus on its current development stage, which regards the mathematical modeling of the first platform and the design of its corresponding control algorithm. The proposed controller takes into consideration the manipulator's mechanical and the actuators' hydraulic dynamics, using the computed-torque control approach [9,10]. Lyapunov theory is used to guarantee the closed loop stability of the system. The control performance is verified by means of computer simulations results, which indicate that the proposed strategy yields good performance in leading the first platform to emulate a large range of motions that are compatible with vessel heave movements.

During the past decade, the permanent magnet synchronous machines have been becoming more and more prevailing in industrial applications. Substantial optimization approaches are employed to improve the performances of the machine drives. It is well known that artificial intelligence techniques bring competitive solutions to machine design and control problems. In this paper, we provide a survey on the state-of-the-art control and optimization methods used in the permanent magnet synchronous machine drives. A large variety of control schemes and up-to-date optimization methods are reviewed here.
