Idle Stop and Go (ISG), also known as Automatic Engine Stop/Start, has been widely implemented in production vehicles as one of the "Eco" functions that save fuel, and the application has been promoted to meet stringent fuel economy regulations throughout the world. However, the vibration and the hesitation caused by engine stop and restart often discourage the usage. Because a conventional ISG system usually restarts the engine when it sees the brake pedal release, the driver may perceive a delay in immediate vehicle launch. Furthermore, there are some driving conditions where engine on/off is undesirable or unnecessary. A quick stop-and-go situation such as making a complete stop at a stop sign is one of the conditions where ISG would be inappropriate, and in those cases, ISG may irritate the driver or even end up increasing fuel consumption with too frequent engine stop/start. In order to mitigate aforementioned issues, a utilization of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is proposed. With the surrounding traffic information obtained from the ADAS module, ISG control algorithm is able to determine when to turn on or off the engine prior to driver's input. The applications demonstrated in this paper include the following usage examples: The ISG control logic monitors the movement of the vehicle in front and restarts the engine out of ISG mode before brake release, which eliminates the delay in the following vehicle launch. By employing traffic sign recognition and vehicle location info, the control logic is also able to inhibit engine off when the vehicle stops at stop signs which will avoid unwanted ISG activation. In this paper;the advanced ISG control logic is introduced, and the real-world vehicle test results are provided with the description of prototype vehicle configuration.

Recent advancements in robotics have established standard control and planning algorithms for robot localization, navigation, and manipulation, which extend the automation from skill-based to rule-based. Such automation approaches, however, are susceptible to environmental dynamics and the burden of corresponding event handling falls on the human operator. In multi-agent systems, any deviation from the otherwise inefficient one operator to one robot mapping can result in an exponential growth of system complexity, and, in the absence of some form of artificial intelligence supervisory control, the overall framework can quickly become unmanageable, counterproductive, and even hazardous. Therefore, for future manned-unmanned teaming, a knowledge-based cooperative control architecture is warranted that can process cognitive reasoning at the meta-level to autonomously carry out some or all tactical parts of the mission while maintaining constant connection with the human operator. Furthermore, in such a scenario, the human operator needs to be able to communicate with multiple robotic agents via natural language and gesture interface so that he/she can efficiently manage not just one robot but the entire swarm or at least a segment. This paper will discuss a hybrid swarm autonomy architecture to coordinate a diverse team of robots using an immersive and intuitive interface technology for cooperative control of unmanned platforms. This novel interactive interface will offer situational awareness and decision presentation capabilities. Implemented through a real time, networked, mixed reality environment, it will be designed to support rapid exploration and evaluation with the swarm as well as dynamic interaction among different human operators. One of the major objectives of this research is to reduce cognitive load on operators and enable trust among robots and humans. The importance of expanded operating flexibility with reduced emissions on dry low emissions (DLE) gas turbines to lower loads has grown in importance for operators in many applications including natural gas transmission. Solar Turbines has developed an improved emissions control algorithm for Solar's SoloNOx DLE gas turbines being offered as Enhanced Emissions control. The new algorithm reduces carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons (UHC) emissions from idle to 50% load. The corresponding startup and shut down emissions are reduced so that operators can obtain permits for operation over longer periods outside of low emissions mode. The algorithm has been evaluated in field trials at two different compressor stations using different gas turbine engine models. Solar's Taurus' 60 was tested at a field site in West Virginia and a Mars 100 was tested near Houston, Texas in the United States. The new control scheme reduces emissions from part load down to idle. The new controls extend the bleed valve or variable guide vanes' operating range where they modulate to control combustor temperature from idle to full load. The pilot fuel schedule is also changed to work more directly with the combustor temperature control. Two field trials were completed to measure emissions continuously for more than 10 months at each site to validate the effectiveness of the new algorithm. Operation of the test units was largely at loads over 50% and the continuous data served to validate that the new algorithm with the modifications to pilot control did not change the emissions signature in the 'loW emissions mode." In addition, multiple site visits were completed to map emissions from idle to 50% load over a range of engine settings. This mapping fully documented the complete emissions performance of the test units from idle to 100% load over a range of ambient temperatures from below freezing to 38 degrees C. The paper describes operation of three-level inverters with synchronized pulsewidth modulation (PWM) at control regimes different from standard Volts/Hertz control. control algorithms provide common-mode voltage cancellation in three-phase load in this case. The output voltage of converters has quarter-wave symmetry ring the whole control range including the zone of overmodulation. Simulations give the behaviour of different versions of synchronous PWM.

Although active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) has demonstrated promising results in many applications, in some safety critical applications e.g. power plant, unmanned aerial vehicle, etc., it is often reluctant to switch from an existing control algorithm, either the traditional PID controller or other advanced control algorithms, to a new one. If the switching between the control algorithms can be made seamless, many more opportunities may open up. In this paper, the problem of making the switching to the ADRC smooth is studied. Previous attempts to solve the problem are not thorough - enough, since only a second order system was addressed. A very simple and effective method is proposed based on analysis to make the transition seamless. The solution is very general, and can be applied to system of any order or even system with time-delay. At the core of the solution is the initialization of the "total disturbance".

An improved adaptive pressbrake control algorithm is described. The problem is to control the punch reversal position of the press so that the final unloaded angle of the bend remains unchanged in the presence of material property and thickness variations of the sheets or plates being bent. Pressbrake control algorithms that use punch force-displacement data to identify thickness and material property variations have shown promise. However, since previous controllers have been based on an elastic-plastic material model, the parts have been overbent. In this paper, a controller based on an elastic, power-law strain-hardening model is proposed. Experiments have shown that the model eliminates the tendency to overbend the parts that is present in the elastic-plastic algorithm. © 1986 by ASME.

'PaddleSats' represent a unique class of Space Solar Power (SSP) satellites distinguished by their ultra-low area density and distinctive design, featuring two circular disks-a solar collection disk and a microwave transmission disk-connected by a cylindrical joint. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework and presents initial results for an advanced Paddle-Sat attitude control algorithm. The primary objective of this algorithm is to emulate the behavior of traditional geostationary satellites, particularly their station-keeping procedures while adhering to the specific requirements for efficient microwave SSP transmission. Our results show that the PaddleSat attitude control algorithm successfully achieves the desired station-keeping behavior, effectively balancing the demands of stable positioning with the unique requirements of microwave SSP transmission. These findings highlight the potential of PaddleSats as a viable and efficient means of harnessing solar power in space.

Solar energy, valued for being abundant, affordable, and clean, is becoming a major focus of research aimed at improving the methods used to harness it. One effective approach is using solar tracking systems, which adjust the orientation of solar panels to maintain optimal alignment with the sun, thereby increasing energy capture. Specifically, dual-axis solar tracking systems can boost energy yield by 30-40% compared to stationary panels because they can continuously adjust to the sun's position. Although traditional solar tracking methods have significantly improved energy yield compared to static panel installations, recent Internet of Things (IoT) technology has ushered in a new era of intelligent solar tracking systems, offering enhanced functionality and efficiency beyond conventional sun-sensing mechanisms. Previous work by the team discussed an IoT-based dual-axis solar tracking system and demonstrated its efficacy, showing that it performs comparably to traditional sensor-based systems. The system employs cost-effective, compact computers like the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W to access real-time internet data for precise Sun tracking. An electric linear actuator system controls the solar panels, ensuring efficient alignment. The IoT-based solar tracking system features a sophisticated control algorithm that optimizes solar power generation. Our previous work discussed the comparison with sensor-based system. This paper delves deeper into the development of the control algorithm used for the IoT-based tracking system.

Multi-robot systems are becoming widely popular in applications where a rapid response is required or where various different robotic capabilities are required. Applications such as surveillance, or search and rescue, would require an efficient team that can be deployed and optimally dispersed over the environment. This is known as the coverage control problem. The solution to this research optimization problem is affected by several external aspects, such as characteristics of the environment as well as factors that pertain to the robotic team. This work proposes a novel solution to the complete coverage problem where the team of robots is restricted with energy limitations, and must cover an environment that has time-varying regions of importance. Our results show that in a realistic scenario, where the robots have limited energy for the task in question, the proposed solution performs significantly better than a typical coverage algorithm which disregards the energy considerations of the robotic team. In this paper some results of the research works are presented, especially focusing on energy savings in street lighting installations and possibilities of remote lamp monitoring and control, lamp maintenance and reducing the cost of maintenance. The research is based on a system using the LonWorks technology - an open standard of distributed building automation systems, with the power line communication in the field level. A new approach to development of control scenarios and algorithms for such systems and installations has been proposed as well.
