This paper outlines a control framework being developed for the TRYM model. The current procedure minimises a quadratic social loss function that targets non-steady-state settings for unemployment and inflation. The iterative technique is described in detail, and illustrated using the example of a temporary terms of trade shock. The effects of the shock on the model are compared for two separate policy regimes, one using the default TRYM policy reactions, and the other from the optimal control procedure. The limitations of using control techniques as an aid to the policy-formation process, and the benefits to be derived from implementing optimal control on a model like TRYM, are briefly discussed. The paper discusses the research of the cylindrical linear AC electronic motor control system for the actuating mechanism of direct material application. The design of a linear electric motor is considered. A functional control scheme of a rotary linear valve motor is presented. The basic parameters and equations necessary for use in the motor control algorithm are considered. The control of the CLEM module is carried out using a converter in the frequency range (0.5 divided by 6) Hz to obtain the necessary high-speed motion of the actuating mechanism. The motor control is based on a PC. The software is implemented in C + in the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 environment and is focused on use on an industrial or personal computer. The personal computer is connected to the frequency converter via a cable communication line of the RS-485 standard (using the RS-485 / USB interface converter) based on the ModBus protocol. Experimental researches of the electro-drive module of the CLEM have shown that the developed system allows to operate in the required speed range within (0.03-0.36) m/s. At the same time, the movement of the secondary element in one direction is 1.2 m, and the number of binary moves varies from 0.75 to 9 per minute. The nominal force of the CLEM module is 400 kN. Algorithm of control tested on experimental installation. The system fully satisfies the characteristics of the technical task.

The presented work addresses the output feedback control problem for a large class of nonlinear systems. The control strategy shares similarities to separation-based algorithms commonly found in the literature, in the sense that the control problem is solved using an observer-predictor, in conjunction with a state feedback control law. The approach however distinguishes itself in significant ways. In particular;the control algorithm is not designed to control the actual system's output, as is usually the case in separation-based approaches, but it is rather designed to control the output of the observer-predictor The latter is designed to ensure that, for any admissible control signal, its output converges to a neighborhood of the corresponding output of the real system. The observer-predictor is thus used to indirectly control the real system. Results of numerical simulations are provided to illustrate performance of the obtained control algorithm.

This paper proposes a robot control approach using a discrete recursive least square algorithm. The scheme shows robustness when the system suffers from measurement noise and has a fast parameter convergence rate. The control algorithm is computationally efficient and numerically stable. Guaranteed trajectory tracking can be achieved by simple parameter design if disturbances are bounded.

This paper presents a combined shape-velocity-heading control for planar snake robots to navigate confined environments using the lateral undulatory locomotion. The kinematics and dynamics of shape-changing were studied to find the connection between the gait parameters of the Serpenoid curve and the width of the robot locomotion while following the desired trajectories. The phase shift in between joint angles was identified as the parameter of interest for controlling the width of snake robots. The controller includes an outer-loop to adjust the parameters of the lateral undulation gait to achieve the desired shape, linear velocity, and heading direction in the Cartesian space while the inner-loop determines the torques at each joint of the snake robot to follow the desired joint trajectories. The control algorithm was tested on a planar 6-link snake robot model and was examined in different simulation cases of adjusting the robot's shape to the desired width while maintaining the desired heading direction and linear velocity. The simulation results have shown the feasibility and effectiveness of the combined heading, velocity, and shape control algorithm in the navigation of a 6-link snake robot in simple and complex simulated multichannel cluttered environments.

This paper continues the results obtained by the authors on State Blocking Systems (SBS). The approach proposed by the authors is based on the so-called blocking function which may be considered as a new input variable that continuously changes the system structure. The paper deals with an original method for Finite Time Response (FTR) control of the state blocking systems. Because of the blocked components and of the active subsystem uncontrollable components, an SBS system appears as an affine system with FTR control procedures unknown in literature. It is developed a new procedure for the affine systems FTR synthesis, called the equivalent input method. For this purpose it calculates an equivalent input which will determine, according to a quadratic criterion, the best approximation of the affine component. Experimental results are presented to justify the method approached in the paper.

Aerodynamic instabilities that will limit the operating range, performance, and reliability of gas turbine engines include rotating stall and surge. These aerodynamic instabilities occur in the compressor at low flow rates. Enabling technologies that have been used to demonstrate the stabilization of compression systems and operating range extension by means of active feedback control include the manipulation of compressor flow field with inlet guide vanes, bleed valves, and air injection. A potential application of the performance improvement associated with active feedback control is to reduce the weight of an aircraft engine. The number of compressor stages required to achieve the same overall pressure rise can be reduced by using active feedback control to extend the operating range of a compressor with steep speed-lines. And since the compressor makes up a large percent of the weight of an aircraft engine, reducing the number of compressor stages will reduce the engine weight thus increasing its thrust to weight ratio. This paper presents a full state nonlinear distributed model of rotating stall and surge with an air injection actuation system, a nonlinear controller design, and a closed loop simulation architecture that can be used for evaluating different control algorithms. The full state nonlinear distributed model was validated with stall inception data from a transonic compressor, and a sliding mode nonlinear controller was designed using the validated nonlinear distributed model. The closed loop simulation setup was then used to compare the performance of existing baseline linear controllers with the nonlinear controller model presented in this paper. The simulation results showed that more operation range extension can be obtained with robustness to compressor disturbances by using single-sided sliding mode control law.

The paper presents results computer simulations conducted for a semi-active vibration reduction system in an object with one degree of freedom. The system consists of a linear magnetorheological (MR) damper connected with an electromechanical transducer (EM) and a spring. This system is an alternative to a typical semi-active MR damper-based vibration reduction system supplied by an external power source. The task of the EM transducer is to harvest a certain part of energy coming from mechanical vibration and convert it into electrical energy. The voltage induced by EM is used to control the MR damper. The performance of the vibration reduction system was tested with various control algorithms applied to the MR damper working.

Semiactive control systems have received considerable attention for protecting structures against natural hazards such as strong earthquakes and high winds, because they not only offer the reliability of passive control systems but also maintain the versatility and adaptability of fully active control systems. Among the many semiactive control devices, magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers comprise one particularly promising class. In the field of civil engineering, much research and development on MR fluid damper-based control systems has been conducted since this unique semiactive device was first introduced to civil engineering applications in mid 1990s. In 2001, MR fluid dampers were applied to the full-scale in-service civil engineering structures for the first time. This state-of-the-art paper includes a detailed literature review of dynamic models of MR fluid dampers for describing their complex dynamic behavior and control algorithms considering the characteristics of MR fluid dampers. This extensive review provides references to semiactive control systems using MR fluid dampers. The MR fluid damper-based semiactive control systems are shown to have the potential for mitigating the responses of full-scale civil engineering structures under natural hazards.

Wind energy is currently the fastest growing electricity source. To meet the output demand, wind turbines are becoming larger and more flexible leading to the problems of structural load especially in case of offshore turbines. Advanced control algorithms are developed to reduce the load, allowing to build larger turbines, and expand their lifetime. Observer-based control algorithms such as Linear-Quadratic-Gaussian LQG control which uses LQR to calculate the optimal observer and controller gains are commonly applied to wind turbines in literature. However the approach requires to calculate the observer and control gains separately. In addition, linear models used for parameter calculation may have errors with respect to the nonlinearities of wind turbines and induced to unmodeled dynamical properties. These modeling errors need to be considered to to guarantee the stability of the controlled system. Alternatively a robust design assuming bounds and limits of models have to be realized to guarantee stability while ignoring details of modeling. This paper proposes an optimal robust observer-based state feedback controller for large-scale wind turbines to realize multi objectives, including structural load mitigation and rotor speed regulation. The novel contribution is that the observer gain parameters, control gains, and integral action are optimized at the same time within H-infinity mixed sensitivity framework to achieve desired performance with respect to power regulation, structural load mitigation, and also robustness for the wind turbine control system. The control performances have been verified by a high fidelity simulation software and are compared to those of a classical baseline controller.
