In today's environment where vehicle are gradually spreading to every household, it is extremely important to make vehicle more stable and safe. As an important part of the automotive active safety system, the electronic stability system (ESP) plays an extremely important role in the safety and stability of vehicle. It is also a very important question to choose which method to control more effectively and simply. In order to explore the feasibility of PID control in the vehicle lateral stability algorithm, a joint simulation research of the vehicle model based on Carsim and Simulink was carried out. We first use CarSim to generate a car simulation model and import it into Simulink, then import the two-degree-of-freedom dynamic model of the car into the co-simulation model, and then integrate the PID control algorithm into the co-simulation model. After those procedures we do the co-simulation experiments at speeds of 40km/h and 80km/h. Finally, we confirmed the feasibility of PID control in the vehicle lateral stability algorithm and obtained a strong proof of its control effect. © 2022 for this paper by its authors. Extensive reliance on manual controller tuning in closed-loop material testing applications makes such applications good candidates for self-tuning control implementation. The current work deals with the modeling, on-line identification, and self-tuning control of electrohydraulic servomechanisms used for closed-loop control of stroke, load, or strain involving low signal frequencies. The application to load and strain control results in servovalve operation close to null and increases the significance of nonideal aspects of servovalve operation such as valve mechanical null offset, valve overlap and radial clearance. Modifications in process modeling and on-line identification necessary to accommodate these aspects are described and shown to be effective by simulation and experiment. A pole-placement controller design approach is used for controller adaptation, the control algorithm being chosen based on analysis of robustness of the control system. The self-tuning control system is shown to be effective, by simulation and experiment.

Cruise specific fuel consumption (SFC) of turbofan engines is a key metric for increasing airline profitability and for reducing CO2 emissions. Although increasing design bypass ratio (BPR) of separate exhaust turbofan configurations improves cruise SFC, further improvements can be obtained with control actuated variable geometry modulations of core nozzle throat area, bypass nozzle throat area, and compressor variable vanes(CVV). The scope of this paper is to show only the benefits possible, and the process used in determining those benefits, and not to suggest any particular control algorithm for searching the best combination of the control effectors. A parametric cycle study indicated that the effector modulations could increase the cruise BPR, core efficiency, transmission efficiency, propulsive efficiency, and ideal velocity ratio resulting in a cruise SFC improvement of as much as 2.6% depending upon the engine configuration. The changes in these metrics with control effector variations will be presented. Modulation of CVV is already possible in legacy digital controls, and modulation of nozzle areas should be explored in light of the low bandwidth requirements at steady-state cruise conditions.

This paper describes the extension of a well proven state-of-the-art simulation tool for coupled floating structures to accommodate offshore wind turbine applications, both floating and fixed. All structural parts, i.e. rotor blades, hub, nacelle, tower, vessel and mooring system, are included in the finite element model of the complete system. The aerodynamic formulation is based on the blade element momentum theory. A control algorithm is used for regulation of blade pitch angle and electrical torque. The system response is calculated by nonlinear time domain analysis. This approach ensures dynamic equilibrium every time step and gives a proper time domain interaction between the blade dynamics, the mooring dynamics and the tower motions. The developed computer code provides a tool for efficient analysis of motions, support forces and power generation potential, as influenced by waves, wind, and current. Some key results from simulations with wind and wave loading are presented in the paper. The results are compared with results obtained with a rigid blade model and quasi-static model of the anchor lines. The modelled wind turbine is the NREL offshore 5-MW baseline wind turbine, specifications of which are publicly available. In the accompanying paper, Global Analysis of a Floating Wind Turbine Using an Aero-Hydro-Elastic Numerical Model. Part 2: Benchmark Study, results from the new analysis tool are benchmarked against results from other analysis tools.

A three-phase induction motor emulator using power electronic converters is introduced in this paper. The emulator is intended to be used in an ultra-wide-area grid transmission network emulator represented by regenerative converters structure. The load emulator converter is controlled in rectifier mode to behave like the real induction motor load, whose model is described and programmed in the digital controller. This paper discusses specifically about the induction motor dynamic modeling, numerical method used in the controller, and finally experimental result verification of starting up transient.

Petri net model of the communication level of a cooperative autonomous mobile robots system (CAMRS) is presented. The purpose of this model is to specify the integration of the individual efforts on path planning, motion control, and vision system that are necessary for the autonomous operation of the mobile robots. This is achieved by analytically modeling the various units of the system as Petri net transducers and, explicitly representing the tasks execution and information dependence among them. The model can also be used to simulate the task processing and evaluate the efficiency of operations and the responsibility of decisions in the communication level of the cooperative autonomous mobile robots system. Some simulations results of the task processing are presented in the paper.

Although the performance of traditional PLC technology is adequate for the majority of industrial automation and control tasks, there exist a number of demanding applications, which need more powerful alternatives. One such alternative, which has received considerable research interest in recent years, is the implementation of control algorithms on FPGAs. An inherent difficulty of this approach is that it requires expertise in both industrial automation and FPGAs. Also, FPGAs have been traditionally suited towards fast, fixed point calculations. This paper presents an automated methodology which addresses the first problem, by using language translators and hardware behavioral or high-level synthesis. For the second problem, different approaches to support floating point operations at the behavioral domain are thoroughly investigated. Overall, an efficient methodology for design space exploration of industrial control applications is proposed, using FPGA technology. The presented experiments show that design trade-offs can be easily explored and the desired solution for each application can be efficiently selected.

There are two basic types of transmissions- manual and automatic. While manual transmissions have greater transmission efficiency and better overall driving experience, it is difficult and not as easy to handle as automatic transmissions. Automatic transmissions make life a lot easier for the driver but are less efficient and laggard. So, the aim of this project is to take the best of both worlds and combine it in one, i.e. a transmission system that is capable of working as both a manual and an automatic transmission. For this, we plan to automate a regular manual transmission with a manual override option on both the clutch and the gearbox systems. Motors will be used to control the clutch and the changing of gears in the gearbox. In the manual mode, the motors will be operated by user input switches (clutch pedal and stick shift). In the automatic mode, the same motors will be controlled by a control algorithm based on various inputs like weight of the car, inclination, speed of the engine and the car etc.

India has always been victim of power failures or blackouts and the recent July 2012 countrywide blackout is a perfect example for it. It is expected that due to the widening gap between supply and demand, such instances of power failure would occur more regularly in future. Such blackouts are also be foreseen in other parts of the world. The electricity grids in many countries are highly centralized and are mostly dependent on fossil-fuel based energy sources (coal, oil, natural gas etc). Due to the rapid rise in the living standards of developing countries such as India and China, there is an increase in demand for electricity for running various appliances, as well as for heating and air-conditioning equipment. Such an increased in demand places tremendous strain on ailing centralized grid burning fossil fuel. The use of renewable energy sources (such as solar and wind) could potentially allow large amount of demand to be met though alternative means and offset the demand on the grid. The advancement in technology has encouraged the implementation of renewable resources especially solar and wind. Hybrid power systems (HPS) that consist of these resources can significantly lower storage requirements. Furthermore, besides being cost-efficient, it is coherent to the weather conditions since solar and wind complement each other well. For highly efficient hybrid power systems to be developed, a significant degree of research must be applied to further their development. This includes tasks such as modeling these systems and applying proficient control algorithms to maximize efficiency. This paper focuses on simulation of an HPS consisting of a photovoltaic (PV) module, wind turbine (WT), and a lead acid battery through MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Moreover, a control algorithm is proposed, which leads to an efficient and autonomous operation of the HPS, along with maximizing power output from PV module and WT.
