This paper proposes an offset-free distributed implementation of a model predictive controller that employs fuzzy negotiation between agents. The scheme is based on model augmentation with additional disturbances to enable zero-offset tracking. Moreover, we code the negotiation criteria as a set of suitable fuzzy rules and consider stability and feasibility guarantees in the controller design for the linearized subsystems. We applied the method to an experimental four-tank plant, showing its effectiveness despite the coupling between subsystems and system-model mismatch.

Many industrial processes consist of a series of interconnected components. While the components are often individually controllable, the potentially complex interaction mechanisms limit the design options for a process-wide controller. Typical reasons are that parts of the component interactions are difficult to model or that the overall, detailed physical model is very complex. Due to these challenges, using model-based control approaches, such as model predictive control, often becomes infeasible. To this end, an adaptive two-degree of freedom control concept for reference tracking tasks is proposed. A data-driven surrogate model of the coupled system is trained, focusing on the reference tracking objective, and exploiting the model structure. This surrogate model is used in a two-degree of freedom control concept, splitting the tasks into reference tracking and disturbance rejection. The proposed control concept applies to a broad class of reference tracking processes subject to partially unknown system dynamics. It is tested exemplarily to control an interconnected three-tank system. Copyright (c) 2023 The Authors.

Power systems are subject to fundamental changes due to the increasing infeed of renewable energy sources. Taking the accompanying decentralization of power generation into account, the concept of prosumer-based microgrids gives the opportunity to rethink structuring and operation of power systems from scratch. In a prosumer-based microgrid, each power grid node can feed energy into the grid and draw energy from the grid. The concept allows for spatial aggregation such that also an interaction between microgrids can be represented as a prosumer-based microgrid. The contribution of this work is threefold: (i) we propose a decentralized hierarchical control approach in a network including different time scales, (ii) we use iterative learning control to compensate periodic demand patterns and save lower-layer control energy and (iii) we assure asymptotic stability and monotonic convergence in the iteration domain for the linearized dynamics and validate the performance by simulating the nonlinear dynamics. Aiming at the influence of the uncertainty of renewable energy generation on the power distribution of smart grid, a distributed optimal scheduling strategy for smart grid energy storage units based on consensus algorithm was proposed. This method does not rely on the central controller, but through the local communication between the energy storage units, according to their own information and acquired neighbor information to adjust the deviation between the actual and planed power in real time. In addition, in order to verify that the algorithm can optimize the network loss, MATPOWER is used to calculate the network loss before and after optimization The system simulation results show that the proposed distributed scheduling strategy can ensure that all storage units converge to the same optimal value, and make the power grid run more economically. The wave-based control system has a potential to become effective method of vibration-damping controller design. The only design requirement of this method is to absorb the returning wave by the actuator. Stability or performance of the overall system is not included in the design specifications and the approach does not provide it in general. The advantage of this approach is that it does not need sensors along the entire length of system and it can simultaneously control position and damps vibration. On the other hand, this method is relatively young and there are many areas of research that have to be explored. This paper brings the stability analysis of wave based control for homogeneous chains. The paper also presents some remarks that extend obtained result for distributed systems.

This paper presents a preliminary study of using adaptive control of grid connected wind farms to damp the inter-area oscillations in wind integrated power systems. The power system is modeled as a distributed parameter systems using a forced first order hyperbolic wave equation, which represents an aggregate model for the system of coupled swing equations subject to wind farm power injections. A direct adaptive controller is used to stabilize the power swing in the face of disturbances using power injected from the wind farms at either a single or multiple locations throughout the power system.
