The appropriate selection of dry hobbing control parameters can significantly improve cutting performances such as energy consumption and time. To overcome the problems of manually setting the value range of control parameters and numerical oscillation of the optimization results (i.e. low stability), a hybrid optimization approach is proposed for the improvement of hobbing performances under user evaluation using K-means clustering, multi-objective hunger games search (MOHGS) and TOPSIS. Firstly, K-means clustering is applied to obtain the cluster centers and case clusters based on the historical cutting cases. Considering the problem of control parameters to be optimized, the numerical range of control parameters is determined via the cluster centers and case clusters. Then, MOHGS is developed and applied to search the non-inferior control parameters and run for many times based on the multi-target optimization model of dry hobbing. Finally, all the non- inferior control parameters obtained are ranked by TOPSIS method based on the user evaluation of cutting performances, and the control parameter ranking first is for machining. Compared with other well-known approaches, it is proved that the proposed approach can effectively resolve the control parameter optimization problem of dry hobbing under user evaluation and has high stability.

The advanced mechanical shim (MSHIM) core control strategy is implemented in the AP1000 reactor for core reactivity and axial power distribution control simultaneously. The MSHIM core control system can provide superior reactor control capabilities via automatic rod control only. This enables the AP1000 to perform power change operations automatically without the soluble boron concentration adjustments. In this paper, the Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm has been applied for the parameter optimization of the MSHIM control system to acquire better reactor control performance for AP1000. System requirements such as power control performance, control bank movement and AO control constraints are reflected in the objective function. Dynamic simulations are performed based on an AP1000 reactor simulation platform in each iteration of the optimization process to calculate the fitness values of particles in the swarm. The simulation platform is developed in Matlab/Simulink environment with implementation of a nodal core model and the MSHIM control strategy. Based on the simulation platform, the typical 10% step load decrease transient from 100% to 90% full power is simulated and the objective function used for control parameter tuning is directly incorporated in the simulation results. With successful implementation of the PSO algorithm in the control parameter optimization of AP1000 reactor, four key parameters of the MSHIM control system are optimized. It has been demonstrated by the calculation results that the optimized MSHIM control system parameters can improve the reactor power control capability and reduce the control rod movement without compromising AO control. Therefore, the PSO based optimization method can be used to optimize MSHIM control system parameters to provide much better reactor control capabilities. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In the regulation layer, the automobile cruise control system (ACCS) is responsible for transient lateral maneuvers and closely related to executing steady state. This paper develops an improved differential evolution algorithm (IDEA) to deal with the control parameter optimization problem for the ACCS. Based on the classical Bayesian decision strategy, a prior probability based sequential chromosome generator is built to partition the problem space and approach the probable solution domain as close as possible. By mimicking the crossover and mutation behaviors among chromosomes, an online adaptive search method is proposed. The IDEA can effectively deepen the search area and simplify the parameter tuning process to get a well-performed ACCS. A nonlinear automobile model is used as a test bed to verify the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method. Numerical simulations show that the IDEA optimized ACCS has good performance in terms of both steady state maneuvers and transient maneuvers.

The airborne automatic landing system needs to provide both accurate trajectory tracking and constant sink rate. In this article, a hybrid optimizer combining a modified particle swarm algorithm with the damped Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) method is presented to not only solve the parameter tuning problem for the automatic landing system design, but also explore the hidden properties of the multimodal optimization problem. In doing so, the quasi-random sequence-based particle initialization method is adopted to let the particles cover the problem domain more evenly. Then, the damped BFGS-based searching method is used to calculate the local minimum of each particle. A three-point searching method is adopted as a substitution method if the damped BFGS method fails. By using the modified niching method, each particle is updated and converges to an estimated local minimum point. Finally, a range of optimized solutions is analysed and presented to the engineer for the automatic landing system design. A series of simulations are carried out on a test bed based on a 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) non-linear model of the F/A-18. Comparative results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper considers an one-item inventory system subject to random order lead times and random demand. The key parameter of the control policy is the objective inventory level. In each period, the order to be placed brings the inventory position as close as possible to the objective inventory level, and the variation of the quantity to be ordered from one period to the next one is kept bounded by some given upper and lower variation limits. We show that the inventory level remains finite along the time provided that the variation limits are positive. The average inventory cost is shown to be a convex function of the objective inventory level. A simulation-based approach is proposed for the determination of the optimal objective inventory. A method of dichotomy with derivative is then used to determine the optimal objective inventory level. Thanks to the particular structure of the problem, the average costs and the derivatives needed in various iterations of this method are estimated using a single sample path with respect to a given objective inventory.

A dual-excited synchronous generator (DESG) with two field windings on the rotor has better dynamic characteristics and high stability. However, the realization of the function needs a reasonable excitation control strategy. In this article, a power tracking excitation control (PTEC) is proposed to improve the operating performances of the DESG. The dynamic processes of a 300-MW DESG with the PTEC are calculated after the disturbance of the torque and reactive power by the time-stepping finite element model, and the results are superior to those adopting the traditional dual-channel excitation control. To further improve the dynamic characteristic of the DESG, the sensitivities of the control parameters of the PTEC to the dynamic characteristic indices are studied. The fuzzy control rules are built based on the sensitivity analysis results and the control parameters are optimized by the fuzzy control method. It revealed the variation laws of the optimized control parameters along with the active and reactive power deviations and their variable rates. The results show that the DESG adopting the optimized control parameters has better dynamic characteristics. The study can provide the theoretic basis for enhancing the system damping effect and suppressing the system oscillation.

Crosswind landing is one of the most complex and challenging landing manoeuvres;an aircraft can drift laterally or could even be blown off the runway under extreme crosswind conditions. This article proposes an improved multi-group swarm-based optimization method that can not only optimize the parameters of the lateral flight control system, but also find diversity solutions of the underlying optimization problem. During the optimizing process, several swarm groups are generated to search potential areas for the optimal solution. These groups exchange information with each other during the searching process and focus on their different but continuous spaces. Finally, a diverse range of solutions is presented to the engineer for the flight control system design. A nonlinear 6 degrees-of-freedom rigid model of a Boeing 747 is used as a test bed to verify the robustness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Analysis and control parameters optimization of Wind Turbines Participating in Power System Primary Frequency Regulation with the Consideration of Secondary Frequency Drop

With the increasing integration of wind energy into power systems, maintaining frequency stability has become a significant challenge. To address the issue of secondary frequency drop caused by wind turbines exiting the primary frequency regulation of power systems, this paper presents a control parameters optimization method of wind turbines participating in power system primary frequency regulation. Initially, with the assumption of constant wind speed and linearization of the wind power coefficient, the relationship between the mechanical power and rotor speed of the wind turbines is established. Subsequently, the primary frequency regulation component of wind turbines is integrated into the classical system frequency response (SFR) model, accounting for the effects of exiting time and rotor speed variations. Following this, the dynamic frequency of the power system is computed with the modified SFR model, and the time domain expressions for both primary and secondary frequency drops are derived. Furthermore, an optimization model for the control parameters of wind turbines participating in primary frequency regulation is developed, aiming to minimize the values both of primary and secondary frequency drops. Finally, a case study is constructed to validate the efficacy of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the optimization method introduced in this paper significantly enhances the dynamic characteristics of the system frequency.
