On robust stability of switched homogeneous systems

This paper analyses the robust stability of a class of homogeneous systems where a relation among the high-order term, the decay rate and the domain of attraction of the system is explicitly established. Such a new observation helps to establish several robust stability conditions for switched homogeneous systems with high-order terms. Several domains of attraction related to asymptotical and finite-time stability properties are also provided. The new results are further applied to supervisory control of spacecraft attitude system with high-order uncertainties to illustrate their efficiency and applicability.

Decentralized event-triggered robust MPC for large-scale networked Lipchitz non-linear control systems

This article examines a decentralized event-triggered robust model predictive control (MPC) for a class of networked large-scale non-linear Lipchitz systems. It is assumed that the subsystems are geographically distributed and the connections can be made over a communication network and therefore local event generator modules are used. An event-triggering condition is then proposed for each module, which only uses local information to trigger data via the communication channel. In this way, the information exchange between subsystems can be reduced significantly compared to time-triggered conventional control approaches, while the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop is maintained. In contrast to the reported event-triggered MPC results, the optimized controller is calculated based on state feedback control law for individual subsystems, which minimizes the upper limit on the infinite horizon cost function subject to constraints on the control inputs. The validness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by simulation results.

Compensated active disturbance rejection control for voltage regulation of a DC-DC boost converter

This study analysed the output voltage control and performance of a DC-DC boost converter. The focus is on the continuous conduction mode of a DC-DC boost converter and each component is designed and selected for circuit assembly. A small-signal AC model based on a pulse-width modulated DC-DC boost converter is constructed, and four control algorithms, namely the -integral control, deadbeat control, linear quadratic regulator control, conventional active disturbance rejection control and new compensated active disturbance rejection control are put forward to regulate the converter output voltage when faced with immeasurable input and load disturbance. The paper emphasises the objective steering the output voltage to its reference with fast response, little overshoot, and ripples. The equivalent input disturbance observer is utilised to compensate for the tracking error existing in the observed system. Scenarios for validation are investigated in MATLAB/Simulink environment and LabVIEW-based field-programmable gate-array experimental rig. The results indicate that the proposed method has the best rejection effect on the above-mentioned system disturbances with stability improvement.

Quasi-bipartite synchronisation of multiple inertial signed delayed neural networks under distributed event-triggered impulsive control strategy

The central concern of this paper is to study leader-following quasi-bipartite synchronisation of a multiple inertial signed neural networks with varying time-delay by utilising distributed event-triggered impulsive control scheme, where connections between adjacent nodes of the neural networks either positive or negative. The second-order neural networks, called inertial neural networks, can be transformed into differential equations of first-order by implementing suitable variable substitution. Under certain hypothesis about the node dynamics, signed graph theory and balanced topology of networks, some conditions are derived in terms of lower-dimensional linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to achieve leader-following quasi-bipartite synchronisation. In addition, a basic algebraic condition is derived to estimate the theoretical upper bound for the error node. Finally, some numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

Quantised control of delayed Markovian jump systems with partly known transition probabilities

This paper is devoted to solve the quantised control problem of the continuous-time uncertain Markovian jump systems with mixed time delays and partly known transition probabilities. For the Markov chain, the transition rates are assumed to be partly known. The involved mixed time delays comprise both time-varying delays and distributed delays. The logarithmic quantiser is introduced in the design of the state feedback controller and the uncertainty is entered into the quantization error matrix represented by an interval matrix. Based on the generalised Ito's formula, the free-connection weighting matrix method and the stochastic analysis theory, several novel sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee that the trivial solution of the closed-loop system is robustly exponentially stable in the mean square. Then, the concrete expression form of the desired controller gain is obtained via the solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities. In addition, the corresponding stability criteria are given for three special situations of Markovian jump systems. Finally, a numerical example and a practical example (the wheeled mobile manipulator) are provided to show the feasibility and availability of the proposed theoretical results.

Global stabilisation for a class of stochastic continuous non-linear systems with time-varying delay

This paper studies the problem of global stabilisation for a class of continuous but non-smooth stochastic non-linear systems with time-varying delays. Other than the traditional backstepping recursive control, a concise controller of the nominal system is firstly designed by employing the homogenous domination approach, which overcomes the problem of calculating explosion produced by the diffusion and Hessian terms. Then, by means of an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasoviskii functional and a design parameter, the negative effects of the time delays and non-linear terms generated in the controller design process are dominated;the global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system can be ensured by the simple but effective controller, which provides significant cost savings. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented scheme.

Optimal power sharing of wind farms for frequency response

This paper presents a uniform optimal power sharing strategy to coordinate the wind turbines (WTs) in a wind farm (WF) to provide occasional and continuous frequency response (FR). The coordination of WTs is formulated as an optimisation problem that takes into account the WT dynamics and tries to reduce the long term loss of energy yield caused by the provision of FR. This is achieved by maximising the total kinetic energy of the WF over time while reducing wear and tear of WTs. The proposed optimal power sharing strategy relies on periodic communication between each WT and a WF controller. Local linear approximations are employed to predict the system behaviour and the solution of the optimisation problem is obtained using the proposed centralised and/or distributed algorithm. The distributed algorithm only requires one-way communication between the WF controller and local WTs, reducing the communication overheads. Simulation studies are carried out on a WF model to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. The results show the strategy enables reduction of yield loss over previous methods while avoiding over torque operation during FR provision.

On bipartite consensus of linear MASs with input saturation over directed signed graphs: Fully distributed adaptive approach

This paper studies the bipartite consensus problem with input saturation for general linear represents multi-agent systems (MASs) with signed digraphs. Based on relative state information among neighbour agents, distributed adaptive protocols and a compensation observer are proposed, wherein both leaderless bipartite consensus and tracking bipartite consensus problems are addressed. For the case only relative output information is available, observer-based distributed adaptive protocols are also designed, where for each agent, a local observer is given to estimate signed consensus error and a distributed observer is presented to achieve bipartite consensus and generate control input and a compensation observer is designed to handle input saturation. Simulation illustrations are given to explain the feasibility. The control protocols presented in this article depend on only local relative state or output information, without any eigenvalue information of Laplacian matrices associated with signed digraphs, which can be practically used for each agent in a fully distributed way.

Disturbance estimation based tracking control for periodic piecewise time-varying delay systems

This work is mainly focused on the design of uncertainty and disturbance estimator-based tracking control scheme for a class of periodic piecewise time-varying delay systems with uncertainties and disturbances. Precisely, the considered system consists of several subsystems, where the fixed dwell time and switching sequence are utilised to achieve the coordination between each subsystem. By constructing Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional with time-varying periodic piecewise matrices and employing the matrix polynomial approach, an uncertainty and disturbance estimator-based periodic tracking control design is developed such that the trajectories of the considered system are driven to track the reference model. Moreover, the lumped disturbances so called the summation of uncertainties and exogenous disturbances are estimated with the aid of strictly proper low-pass filter. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the effectiveness and advantages of the developed theoretical results.

The current study is dedicated to addressing the stability and weighted L1-gain performance analysis of switched impulsive positive systems (SIPSs). Firstly, by designing a novel multiple piecewise-continuous copositive linear Lyapunov function and using the mode-dependent average dwell time (MDADT) switching method, improved stability conditions that are able to achieve a tighter dwell time bound are developed. It is shown that the system under study is stable and possesses an attenuation property under the designed switching signals. Secondly, with the above stability conditions, a more effective controller design strategy has been proposed. The solved controllers are both quasi-time dependent and mode-dependent. Moreover, the constraint on the rank of the controller and the computation burden caused by iteration algorithm used in literature are relaxed. Finally, the feasibility and superiority of the proposed strategies are verified by some simulations.
