It can be clearly seen in the modern world of digital era that we depend a lot on mobile/smartphones which in return depends on data/information to proof its worthy. To meet this increased demand of data rate, new technology is needed as for old technology like GPRS and EDGE which is beyond their capacity. So orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) takes this place as it increases the data rate in the same bandwidth, as it is also fixed. In this paper, we present a comparison between data handling using different modulations, which in turn can be assumed for bit error rate (BER) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) curve, of non-OFDM and OFDM channel under different fading environments.

Recent work has shown that convolutional networks can be substantially deeper, more accurate, and efficient to train if they contain shorter connections between layers close to the input and those close to the output. In this paper, we embrace this observation and introduce the Dense convolutional Network (DenseNet), which connects each layer to every other layer in a feed-forward fashion. Whereas traditional convolutional networks with L layers have L connections-one between each layer and its subsequent layer-our network has L(L+1)/2 direct connections. For each layer, the feature-maps of all preceding layers are used as inputs, and its own feature-maps are used as inputs into all subsequent layers. DenseNets have several compelling advantages: they alleviate the vanishing-gradient problem, strengthen feature propagation, encourage feature reuse, and substantially reduce the number of parameters. We evaluate our proposed architecture on four highly competitive object recognition benchmark tasks (CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, SVHN, and ImageNet). DenseNets obtain significant improvements over the state-of-the-art on most of them, whilst requiring less computation to achieve high performance. In this paper we derive computationally efficient minimality and canonicity tests for rational generator matrices for convolutional codes. The first set of tests are given in terms of easily obtained equivalent polynomial generator matrices and are suitable for small k and n. New tests are derived based on the scalar generator matrix G which are computationally more efficient for large k and n and small n. The application of these tests to generator matrices for (P)UM codes is studied. Finally, the results of [4] are extended to the enumeration of minimal and canonical rational generator matrices.

The analytical error performance of convolutional codes with short constraint length and rate 1/n can be derived by iterative calculation of probability density function of relative state metric. This analytical technique can be also applied to punctured convolutional codes by periodic probability density function. In this paper, an analytical results of bit error probability for punctured convolutional codes using Viterbi decoding over binary symmetric channel are presented.

We present an analog rotating ring decoder for decoding an LDPC convolutional code. The decoder architecture uses a window of soft received L-values K time units in the past and K time units in the future to decode a given bit. The window of 2K + 1 time units is arranged in a ring structure, and decoding proceeds in a continuous fashion by rotating around the ring. Simulation results indicate performance almost identical to that achieved with digital decoding.

A scalable, programmable turbo decoder architecture is presented in this paper. The starting point is a comparison of the existing techniques on basis of scalability, area and power consumption. The results from these comparisons lead to a hybrid technique on which our architecture concept is based. The architecture is consisting of clusters each of which is a VLIW architecture. The upsizing is possible by adding a cluster and dividing the two data memories in banks. The window size is chosen according to the number of banks to prevent the conflicts. At the end of the paper, a short evaluation of the architecture is presented.

The Quality of Service (QoS) of a GSM system is quantified in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Frame Erasure Rate (FER) observed by the user. The problem of obtaining analytical expressions for BER and FER in a fading channel with multiple cochannel interferers (CCI) is an extremely complex mathematical problem. The reason for this complexity is that the involvement of several GSM PHY layer modules is mandatory. Besides, one needs to characterize the transmission environment from inception by obtaining the statistical properties of faded cochannel interferers. Thus, error rate metrics are usually obtained by simulating the GSM physical layer rather than treating the problem analytically. A reliable interface between system and link level models can be obtained by evaluating the BER and FER in terms of the Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR) analytically, instead of the pre-defined statistical mapping data usually used in literature. In this work, bounds on the uplink BER and FER are obtained for the GSM physical layer assuming a CCI limited system where both the desired and interference signals are subjected to Rayleigh fading.

The design of Viterbi decoders for signals in noise modeled using the symmetric alpha-stable distribution is considered. The traditional Viterbi decoder, which has a branch metric optimized for Gaussian noise, performs poorly in symmetric alpha-stable noise. Since the optimal maximum likelihood branch metric is impractically complex, many suboptimal metrics have been proposed, such as the hard decision, p-norm and absolute (1-norm) metric. A Viterbi decoder that uses the absolute branch metric has better performance and lower complexity, however, its performance degrades when alpha decreases. In this paper, the effects of the suboptimal metrics on the performance of the Viterbi decoder are analyzed, and a clear justification for the performance of the decoder that uses the Gaussian and absolute metrics is provided. Moreover, this analysis is used to design a low complexity suboptimal branch metric that improves the performance of the Viterbi decoder by about 0.75 to 2 dB compared to the absolute branch metric for different values of alpha, at almost no additional complexity.

This paper presents the architecture of a high rate soft output Viterbi decoder (100 Mb/s, 8 states, R=1/2), using the "radix" trellis method to speed up the rate of a decoder using the Viterbi algorithm and the a posteriori weighting algorithm. The size of this circuit is roughly twice that of the original soft output Viterbi decoder while the speed is increased by a factor of 2. Because of its performances, this circuit is very attractive for satellite digital communication systems and is at the root of "turbo-codes", which are a class of convolutional codes whose performances in terms of bit error rate, are close to the Shannon limit.

Using the principles of generalized concatenation we introduce a new design for encoded M-ary CPFSK systems with modulation index h = 1/M. This technique is based on a set partitioning method of inner CPFSK into nested subsystems with increasing free Euclidean distance. The subsystems are combined with several outer convolutional codes having different error-correcting capabilities. We describe a multistep decoding algorithm of generalized concatenated encoded CPFSK and give simulation results. The comparison of the generalized concatenated codes with the best known trellis-coded CPFSK schemes is also presented.
