New mobile communication system design for Rayleigh environments based on compressed sensing-source coding

A new end-to-end communication system is proposed to increase transmission speed, robustness, and security in order to meet the requirements of mobile systems that know an exponentially increasing data amount over time. The design relies on the use of compressed sensing-source coding instead of the supported speech coding standards in actual mobile communication systems. The proposed compressed sensing-source coding method allows reducing the speech coding complexity by using simple quantisation and binary encoding, saving communication system resources, and encrypting communications without additional costs. The performance of the resulting communication system is evaluated for speech communication via 10 dB Rayleigh environment in terms of perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) scores and coherence speech intelligibility index (CSII) when convolutional coding, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, and diversity schemes are used. Results report that for a bit rate of 12.8 kbit/s the proposed scheme achieves fair speech intelligibility justified by a CSII value of 0.5, and offers good output speech quality measure, providing a PESQ of 3.33 for the same bit rate.

Performance Evaluation of Serial and Parallel Concatenated Channel coding Scheme With Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access for 6G Networks

In recent years, with the advent of 6G and intelligent devices, sensors, and new applications such as virtual reality and autonomous driving, user data traffic has exploded, especially video traffic and small IoT packets. These bandwidth-hungry applications require an increased network capacity and user access. The 6G network may use nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) instead of orthogonal multiple access (OMA) to maintain higher data rates, throughput, and lower latency. On the other hand, choosing the channel coding method for future 6G mobile communication is critical for maintaining the high demand for 6G. This paper proposes two-channel coding structures to achieve higher data rates with a lower error rate floor;these structures are polar convolutional serial code (PCSC) and polar convolutional parallel code (PCPC);these structures can achieve a larger channel capacity and reduced bit error rates when used with NOMA. The obtained simulation results showed that bit error rate (BER) performance improves the overall coding gain by 1.2 dB compared to polar code in fifth-generation (5G). PCSC surpasses PCPC with a 1.5dB coding gain. This performance ranged from 4 to 6.25dB with higher system settings. The obtained throughput results showed an improvement of 56-60%, in which the enhancement percentage depended on the modulation method used in a direct proportion manner.

Concatenated coding for frequency-hop spread-spectrum with partial-band interference

Concatenated coding techniques are applied to slow frequency-hop packet radio communications for channels with partial-band interference, Binary orthogonal signaling (e,g,, binary FSK) is employed with noncoherent demodulation, Reed-Solomon codes are employed for the outer code while both block and convolutional codes are considered for the inner code, Hard-decision and soft-decision decoding methods are considered for the inner codes, A method is devised for estimating the reliability of the outer Reed-Solomon code symbols, and this estimate is used to determine which code symbols should be erased, Comparisons are made between the performance of concatenated codes and the performance of Reed-Solomon codes alone.

A scheme named index assignment-based channel coding (IACC) has been developed for resilience of speech/audio codecs against the bit errors commonly experienced in wireless channels. Although IACC is a type of joint source channel coding, it does not intervene with the source codec design. The proposed scheme takes into account source characteristics and adjusts the amount of coding according to the sensitivity of different values of the source parameters. It is shown that source characteristics play an important role in the performance of IACC. The performance of IACC has been evaluated by applying it to parameters generated by adaptive multi-rate wideband (AMR-WB+) audio codec. A method for perceptual training of IACC codes is also proposed. The results demonstrate that the performance of IACC and IACC concatenated with convolutional coding can be superior to that of conventional convolutional coding at high and moderate bit error rates, respectively.

AbstractThe deployment of channel coding and interleaving to enhance the bit‐error performance of a satellite mobile radio channel is addressed for speech and data transmissions. Different convolutional codes (CC) using Viterbi decoding with soft decision are examined with inter‐block interleaving. Reed‐Solomon (RS) codes with Berlekamp‐Massey hard decision decoding or soft decision trellis decoding combined with block interleaving are also investigated. A concatenated arrangement employing RS and CC coding as the outer and inner coders, respectively, is used for transmissions via minimum shift keying (MSK) over Gaussian and Rayleigh fading channels. For an interblock interleaving period of 2880 bits, a concatenated arrangement of an RS(48,36). over the Galois field GF(256) and punctured PCC(3,1,7) yielding an overall coding rate of 1/2, provides a coding gain of 42dB for a BER of 10−6, and an uncorrectable error detection probability

To improve re-use of time/frequency slots in a cellular radio system, it is desirable for the average interference levels seen by all users to be made approximately equal. We provide constructions based on orthogonal latin squares that guarantee different sets of users will interfere in successive slots. When signal to interference ratios are independent from successive symbols, channel codes can provide a large diversity gain which is far in excess of the gain against additive noise. Consequently, coding with interleaving fits together very naturally with this construction. We illustrate how to achieve large performance improvement using convolutional codes with low decoding delay in a slow hopped system.

Joint coding and decision feedback equalization for broadband wireless channels

This paper introduces a new approach for joint convolutional coding and decision feedback equalization (DFE). To minimize error propagation, the DFE uses a combination of soft decisions and delayed tentative decisions to cancel intersymbol interference (ISI). Soft decisions are obtained by passing the DFE output through a (soft) nonlinear device. This simple method is shown to perform almost as well as an optimum soft feedback approach on wireless channels with diversity. Tentative decisions from the Viterbi decoder are used to cancel ISI due to multipath with large delays, remedying the increasing effect of error propagation in channels with large delay spreads. We consider the use of this soft/delayed feedback DFE (S/D-DFE) technique in broadband wireless channels (with delay spreads up to several tens of the symbol period) typical in high-bit-rate mobile data applications. Simulation results indicate that the proposed joint coding and S/D-DFE technique performs to within 1-2 dB [in required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)] of an ideal coded DFE without error propagation. When combined with antenna diversity and a reduced-complexity DFE concept with adaptive feedforward tap assignment, it provides high packet throughput against Rayleigh fading, severe delay spreads, and high Doppler rates.

In this paper, we develop a distributed space-time coding scheme to cope with both time and frequency asynchronism in two-way relay network (TWRN). The convolutional coding is employed to handle multiple timing errors in the networks. We prove that both the cooperative and the multipath diversities can be achieved by linear receivers, e. g., linear zero-forcing (ZF) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) receivers. Moreover, the diversity can be guaranteed almost surely under frequency asynchronism. Numerical results are then provided to corroborate the proposed studies.

Nowadays the need for fast and reliable communication is increasing, which leads us to look for new ways to enhance channel coding. In this paper, we will study the case of a distributed coding between two users that aim to transmit data to a common destination, where each user transmits a partial redundancy to the destination, and relies on the second user for the remaining. The purpose of distributing the redundancy creation and transmission, is to benefit from each user channel quality for a more accurate decoding. In the context of our analysis, we will use a 1/2 rate convolutional code with between users and a distributed Turbo code for transmission to the destination. However, this study will aim to highlight the different key factors, as well as the advantage of choosing a distributed encoding.
