In order to effectively solve the discrete optimization problem of cognitive radio network spectrum allocation, a new binary adaptive cuckoo search (BACS) algorithm is proposed, which introduces reverse learning in the initialization stage of traditional cuckoo search (CS), it increases the diversity of the population. Second, the adaptive discovery probability balances the ability of global and local optimization. Finally, a cognitive wireless network spectrum allocation method based on binary adaptive cuckoo algorithm is proposed, and compared with the classical spectrum allocation algorithm for network benefit function and fairness. The simulation shows that BACS has better optimization ability and can be used to maximize the network benefits and fairness between users when applied to spectrum allocation.

Software testing is the most important phase of the software development lifecycle in the software industry. It is done to make sure that developed software is defect free;behavior of the software is same as expected and includes the generation of test data that satisfies some adequacy criteria like statement coverage, branch coverage, path coverage etc. This task is costly and time-consuming so there is an urge for automation of this process. In recent years various meta-heuristic based nature-inspired algorithms are applied in various fields of software engineering. This article proposes a framework for the generation of an optimal set of test cases using a meta-heuristic based optimization algorithm called cuckoo search algorithm as well as an overall algorithm for the same.

The widespread use of the Internet for transmission of data demands the well-defined data protection algorithms. Symmetric block cipher protects the digital information from the un-authorized recipient. The cryptographic strength of symmetric cipher mainly depends on substitution box (S-box). So the main challenge is to create an S-box with higher value of nonlinearity. Meta-heuristic optimization algorithm has been applied to create a secure S-box. In this paper, a design scheme based on chaotic maps and cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) is proposed to enhance the non-linearity of S-box. Chaotic maps are widely used to create secure S-box due to their aperiodic nature. The proposed idea produced an S-box with non-linearity 109.25, which strengthens the cipher security against linear attacks. The results are compared with the recently created S-boxes and the S-boxes obtained using meta-heuristic algorithms such as Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Genetic algorithm (GA) and Firefly algorithm (FA). The obtained S-box is evaluated against cryptographic criteria such as bijectivity, nonlinearity, strict avalanche criteria, bit independence criteria, linear probability and differential probability.

In this paper, an optimization approach in solving Multi-Skill Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (MS-RCPSP) has been presented. We proposed an evolutionary algorithm, which called CSM, based on cuckoo search algorithm. Proposed algorithm not only ensures fast convergence but also avoid program getting trapped in local extremum. The experimental results show that CSM is superior to its predecessor algorithms. Moreover, the deviation of CSM's solution from the best one is very small.

To obtain the accurate evaluation of minimum zone sphericity, this paper investigates a method in Cartesian coordinates using cuckoo search (CS) algorithm. In this method, an appropriate space is set as the search zone according to the solution obtained which is based on least square criteria. The aim of search is to find the best candidate position infinitely approximating the ideal reference center of minimum zone sphere. In order to improve the search efficiency, two essential parameters in CS, namely the control coefficient a of step size and the probability pa of discovering an invasive cuckoo's egg are set to 0.618 (value of golden ratio) and 0.05 (common value of statistical significance), respectively. The updating of the candidate points is carried out by Levy flights and biased/selective random walk mechanisms. Levy flights mechanism can ensure the real global optimum is not missed, biased/selective random walk mechanism guarantee the diversity of search direction and adaptability of search step size. During the updating, the new solution can be kept when it is better than the old one. In each search iteration, the position which corresponds to the smallest sphericity is regarded as the present optimum solution. When the iteration terminal condition is satisfied, the optimum position and corresponding sphericity are output as evaluation results. The validness of the proposed CS algorithm was tested by an application example, the results indicate that the proposed method has the advantage of excellent convergence and high efficiency, which is suitable for the hith-precision evaluation of minimum zone sphericity efficiently.

This Paper discusses about the implementation of the cuckoo search algorithm in finding the maximum power on the solar panels. Where this method mimics the breeding principle of a cuckoo bird is looking for the best nest. In this case it is an example of finding the maximum power point on the solar panel. The test results performed by the proposed system were able to determine the maximum power point within 0.04 seconds with a power of 194.24 watts on the duty cycle of 20.5%. When compared with without MPPT only able to obtain a power of 189,165 Watt with a duty cycle value of 18.2% so that the proposed system is capable of raising power by 5,075 Watts.

In order to improve the response speed and reliability of the interleaved parallel bi-directional DC-DC converter, a constrained model predictive control(MPC) based on cuckoo search algorithm is proposed. Firstly, take the buck mode for example, the predictive model is established according to the equivalent circuit model of the converter under different two switch states. Then the cost function is built to evaluate the performance of the converter. Otherwise, the cuckoo search optimization algorithm is introduced and used to solve model predictive control optimization problem so that the speed solution was improved. Finally, the simulation was carried out by MATLAB/Simulink and the results of the model predictive control, PI control was analyzed and compared. The simulation result show that the CS-MPC converter has better dynamic response performance and steady state performance, and the algorithm is feasible and effective.

cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) has been successfully applied to a range of various fields such as engineering, medical, and image processing. However, it typically suffers from a lack of effective exploration, loose diversity, and premature convergence. This paper aspires to develop a new version of CSA that is based on the features of Reinforcement Learning (RL) to enhance the research technique of CSA, which will be called CSARL. The performance of CSARL is evaluated by applying set of unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions. The results demonstrate that the CSARL outperforms the basic CSA, genetic, harmony search and krill heard algorithms, in terms of convergence speed, the diversity, and exploration search.

Reactive power compensation on radial distribution systems is a challenging issue. Electric power distribution systems are being bedeviled by high active power loss and severe voltage violation especially on the buses that are far from distribution substations. This article presents a two-stage approach for sizing shunt capacitors and identifying the locations where their placement would be most beneficial within radial distribution systems. A multiobjective function capturing real power loss minimization and bus voltage profile enhancement was formulated and weighted approach was engaged to transform the function into single objective one. While backward forward sweep approach was used for the load flow analysis, loss sensitivity factor was employed to predetermine suitable sites for capacitor installation, with the optimal sites and sizes determined using cuckoo search algorithm. This approach was implemented on IEEE 15-bus and Yale 17-bus/11kV feeder. Results obtained using the method was thereafter compared with those obtained through other methods as obtained from literature and the comparison shows that cuckoo search algorithm outsmarts others. Significant reduction in real power loss, coupled with appreciable enhancement in voltage profile, is achieved on the Yale 17-bus/11kV feeder. The approach is therefore viable for addressing reactive power compensation problems confronting practical radial distribution systems.

In this paper a two channel quadrature mirror filter(QMF) bank design method is proposed using cuckoo search algorithm (CSA). The CSA is used to optimize the coefficients of prototype filter bank in order to match the response characteristics of the prototype filter bank with the ideal system response. The weighted sum of square error at the pass band, square error at the stop band and filter bank response at the quadrature frequency are used to formulate the objective function. The CSA is used as the constrained nonlinear optimization tool to solve the objective function. The performance of the proposed method is analysed through mean square error (MSE) in the pass band and stop band and reconstruction error (RE). A comparative statement has been prepared between the different optimization techniques for optimization of coefficients of QMF. Two examples are considered to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
