Joint caching and sleeping optimisation for d2d-aided ultra-dense network

device-to-device (d2d) communication provides the communication of the users in the vicinity and thereby decreases end-to-end delay and power consumption. More importantly, d2d communication enables offloading the traffic load of the base station (BS), and it is very suitable for caching, especially in ultra dense networks (UdNs). In this paper, a joint optimisation problem of collaborative caching and sleeping strategy based on energy-delay tradeoff for d2d-aided UdN is investigated. To solve the joint optimization problem, we decompose it into sleeping sub-problem and collaborative caching sub-problem. For sleeping subproblem, the optimal sleeping ratio is first derived, then, a delay-aware sleeping strategy is proposed to obtain the local optimal sleeping scheme. For the collaborative caching subproblem, the suboptimal solution is obtained by distributed iterative method. In each iteration step, the suboptimal solution is derived by solving the combinatorial optimisation problem under Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can coverage to the global solution. It also demonstrate that increasing caching capacity shortened mean delay, and benefitting from collaborative caching, delay performance and energy saving can be improved significantly. Moreover, it can be seen that combining the sleeping strategy with collaborative caching further reduced energy consumption by a considerable amount.

device-to-device (d2d) communication as an underlaying cellular network empowers user-driven rich multimedia applications and also has proven to be network efficient offloading eNodeB traffic. However, d2d transmitters may cause significant amount of interference to the primary cellular network when radio resources are shared between them. during the downlink (dL) phase, primary cell UE (user equipment) may suffer from interference by the d2d transmitter. On the other hand, the immobile eNodeB is the victim of interference by the d2d transmitter during the uplink (UL) phase when radio resources are allocated randomly. Such interference can be avoided otherwise diminish if radio resource allocated intelligently with the coordination from the eNodeB. In this paper, we formulate the problem of radio resource allocation to the d2d communications as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP). Such an optimization problem is notoriously hard to solve within fast scheduling period of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. We therefore propose an alternative greedy heuristic algorithm that can lessen interference to the primary cellular network utilizing channel gain information. We also perform extensive simulation to prove the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

We propose a cooperative device-to-device (d2d) communications framework in order to combat the problem of congestion in crowded communication environments. The idea is to allow a d2d transmitter to act as an in-band relay for a cellular link and at the same time transmit its own data by employing superposition coding in the downlink. Cooperation between the cellular link and d2d transmitter eases down the requirement on the interference. The main benefit of the proposed method is in increasing the number of connections per unit area with the same spectrum usage. It could also be beneficial to offload over-loaded cells. We formulate our problem to minimize the assigned power for cooperation while making sure the cellular user's performance does not degrade. Our results show that cooperation possibilities and improvement in overall cell capacity increase with the number of cellular users within the cell as well as the cell size.

In this paper, we propose a novel resource sharing strategy to improve the overall system throughput of a device-to-device (d2d) communication system underlaying a cellular network. Aiming to optimize the overall system throughput, the constraint of the leakage data from the cellular user is illustrated, considering the d2d receiver as a malicious partner sharing the spectrum with it. The optimality is also discussed under the requirement of the quality of service (QoS) of the cellular user (CU). In particular, for a given d2d receiver, we propose an admission region of the d2d transmitter, where the leakage rate to the d2d receiver should be minimized and the QoS of the CU can also be satisfied. It does not allow the resource sharing between the cellular link and the d2d link if the d2d transmitter fails to belong to the admission region. Furthermore, an optimal power control algorithm and the d2d pair selection policy are developed to maximize the overall system throughput. Numerical results are given to show that the proposed scheme can improve the system performance effectively.
