In this paper, a novel multi-scroll memristive chaotic system is designed based on Chua's system via introducing a nonlinear memristor. The dynamics of this system is analyzed based on bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents and phase diagrams. Subsequently, an image encryption scheme based on this system is then proposed. First, the proposed chaotic system is used to generate continuously robust chaotic sequences, the hash values of plaintext images are embedded in the generation and selection of chaotic sequences and involved in each step of encryption to establish the coupling relationship between plaintext and ciphertext. Second, Knuth-Durstenfeld algorithm is used to scramble the high four-bit plane of the plain image twice, and the chaotic sequence is used as the index sequence, which greatly improves the efficiency and randomness of the permutation process. Finally, chaotic sequences are involved in dna coding rules and pixel-level diffusion. The algorithm is highly sensitive to plain images, and it can realize adaptive encryption. Through performance analysis and comparison with recent literature, the proposed algorithm can cope with various attacks and show excellent performance.

The exponential increase of digital data that is being generated every year along with the capacity and durability limits of conventional storage devices are raising one of the greatest challenges for the field of data storage. The use of dna for digital data archiving is a very promising alternative as the biological properties of the dna molecule allow the storage of a huge amount of information into a very limited volume while also promising data longevity for centuries or even longer. In this paper we present a comparative study of our work with the state of the art solutions, and show that our solution is competitive.

With the development and application of network technology, digital images, as a form of information transmission, are at high risk of being stolen or decrypted. Our scheme utilizes the nature of low dimensional chaos to generate a high dimensional chaotic system with more variables and higher complexity by mixing two different low dimensional chaotic systems to protect digital images and confirms that it outperforms the original system through simulation experiments. In this paper, a new image scrambling encryption algorithm for multi chaotic system is designed by combining improved tent mapping and high-dimensional chaotic system, and compared with the existing encryption scheme in terms of simulation experiments and security performance parameters, which proves that the scheme has better comprehensive ability. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid development of information technology, huge amounts of images stored in cloud-based CCTV systems. How to protect the transmitted image efficiently and reducing the storage cost for the system become to critical research issues. The concept of dna computing has been intrigued researchers in recent years. It has many potentials, for example, the high density and low cost storage provided by a double stranded dna;or a realization of low cost parallel computation to solve non-deterministic polynomial time problem using replication of dna strands. As a result, a vast number of theoretical studies of the application of dna computing on information security, which require extensive computation power, has been published. In this paper we study dna computation based image encryption scheme which applies to cloud CCTV system. In many different image encryption research the artifact hyperchaotic map was used. We proposed an image encryption algorithm based on dna coding and hyperchaotic map which utilizes the chaotic property of the hyperchaotic map on top of dna computing. Experiment showed that our algorithm is more secure and more computation efficient than some of the recent similar works.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid (dna) coding technology is a new research field developed by the combination of computer science and molecular biology, that has been gradually applied in the field of image encryption in recent years. Furthermore, sensitivity to initial conditions, pseudo-random properties, and state ergodicity of coupled chaotic maps can help produce good pseudo-random number generators and meet the requirements of an image encryption system well. In this paper, an image encryption algorithm based on high-dimensional coupled chaotic maps and dna coding is proposed. A pseudo-random sequence is generated by a long short-term memory (LSTM) architecture using the proposed maps and evaluated through a set of statistical tests to show the high performance of the proposed generator. All intensity values of an input image are converted to a binary sequence, which is scrambled globally by the high-dimensional coupled chaotic maps. The dna operations are performed on the scrambled binary sequences instead of binary operations to increase the algorithm efficiency. Simulation results and performance analyses demonstrate that the proposed encryption scheme is extremely sensitive to small changes in secret keys, provides high security and can resist differential attack.

Living in the age of data explosion, the research of solutions for efficient long term storage of the infrequently used "cold" data is becoming of great interest. However, even if existing storage systems suggest efficiency in capacity, they are lacking in durability. Hard disks, flash, tape or even optical storage have limited lifespan in the range of 5 to 20 years. Interestingly, recent studies have proven that due to its biological properties, the dna is a strong candidate for the storage of digital information allowing also data longevity. The dna's biological properties allows the storage of a great amount of information into an extraordinary small volume while also promising efficient storage for centuries or even longer with no loss of information. However, the biological procedures of dna synthesis and sequencing are expensive while also introducing important restrictions in the encoding process. More precisely the encoding of digital data onto dna is not obvious, because when decoding, we have to face the problem of sequencing noise robustness. This work proposes a coding solution for the storage of digital images onto synthetic dna. We developed a new encoding algorithm which generates a dna code robust to biological errors coming from the synthesis and the sequencing processes. Furthermore, we compare this new algorithm to the state of the art encoding techniques analyzing the advantages of using the proposed method.

A novel color image encryption scheme using elliptic curve cryptography and hyperchaotic system

This paper develops an asymmetric color image encryption algorithm based on elliptic curve cryptography(ECC), five dimensions(5D) hyperchaotic system, and dna dynamic coding. To embed the characteristics of original image in the image encryption algorithm, this algorithm builds a mathematical model to strengthen the connection between the original image, elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman(ECDH) algorithm and hyperchaotic system. The red, green and blue(RGB) channels of encrypted image is reshaped into a three dimensions(3D) matrix. Grouping and scrambling of 3D matrix is accomplished at pixel level, bit level and dna level based on a 5D hyperchaotic system, which effectively enhances the cross-layer variation of images. Then, improved ECC is performed on the scrambled image where multiple elliptic curves and dynamic shared private keys can guarantee the forward secrecy of the image encryption algorithm. At last, the image is performed diffusion to obtain the final encrypted image. Simulation results and security analysis both indicate the image encryption algorithm has better performances in terms of key space, Shannon entropy, clipping attack resistance, etc.

Fluorescent metal nanoclusters (MNCs), composed of a few to hundreds of noble metal atoms, are a type of sub-nanometer scale transitional material between atoms and nanoparticles. The special structure and size endow MNCs with a series of excellent fluorescence properties, such as strong fluorescence, high quantum yield, good anti-photobleaching, and mega-Stokes shift. In addition, MNCs show advantageous properties with respect to good biocompatibility and water solubility. These properties have made MNCs new metal nano-fluorophores (MNFs) that are widely used in biochemical analysis and bioimaging. Among the various scaffolds for the stabilization of MNCs, deoxyribonucleic acid (dna) is an interesting ligand due to its unique structure and programmable sequences. The properties of dna-templated MNCs, such as the excitation/emission wavelength, fluorescence intensity, and the sizes of the MNCs, can be controlled by dna templates with different sequences, lengths or configurations. We call dna-templated MNCs "dna-coded MNFs" here. In this review, based on our previous studies on dna-templated MNCs, we focus on systematically summarizing the preparations, property regulations and applications of dna-coded MNFs in biosensing and bioimaging. Finally, the current challenges, research emphases and prospects of dna-coded MNFs are also discussed. With the advancement in technology, digital images can easily be transmitted and stored over the Internet. Encryption is used to avoid illegal interception of digital images. Encrypting large-sized colour images in their original dimension generally results in low encryption/decryption speed along with exerting a burden on the limited bandwidth of the transmission channel. To address the aforementioned issues, a new encryption scheme for colour images employing convolutional autoencoder, dna and chaos is presented in this paper. The proposed scheme has two main modules, the dimensionality conversion module using the proposed convolutional autoencoder, and the encryption/decryption module using dna and chaos. The dimension of the input colour image is first reduced from NxMx3 to PxQ gray-scale image using the encoder. Encryption and decryption are then performed in the reduced dimension space. The decrypted gray-scale image is upsampled to obtain the original colour image having dimension N xM x 3. The training and validation accuracy of the proposed autoencoder is 97% and 95%, respectively. Once the autoencoder is trained, it can be used to reduce and subsequently increase the dimension of any arbitrary input colour image. The efficacy of the designed autoencoder has been demonstrated by the successful reconstruction of the compressed image into the original colour image with negligible perceptual distortion. The second major contribution presented in this paper is an image encryption scheme using dna along with multiple chaotic sequences and substitution boxes. The security of the proposed image encryption algorithm has been gauged using several evaluation parameters, such as histogram of the cipher image, entropy, NPCR, UACI, key sensitivity, contrast, and so on. The experimental results of the proposed scheme demonstrate its effectiveness to perform colour image encryption.

A novel plaintext-related chaotic image encryption scheme with no additional plaintext information

In the latest image chaotic encryption research, more and more encryption schemes associate the key generation mechanism with the plaintext in order to resist the chosen plaintext attack. However, large amounts of the additional data related to the plaintext need to be sent to the receiver when the sender encrypts a large number of images, which leads to the problems of large transmission cost, high key storage space requirement and complicated key management. In order to solve such problems, this paper proposes a novel plaintext-related chaotic image encryption scheme with no additional plaintext information. The relationship between the plaintext and the secret keys is established by selecting some key pixels in the original image randomly and securely by Henon map. The encryption process is divided into two parts. The first part is to encrypt the selected key pixel while keeping their secret positions unchanged. The second part is to encrypt the remainder pixels based on hyperchaotic Lorenz system and dna encoding using the generated keys. The proposed encryption mechanism can not only achieve the equivalent effect of one-time pad to resist the chosen plaintext attack, but also avoid transmitting additional information associated with the plaintext in the communication channel, which greatly saves the transmission cost and the required key storage space, and simplify the key management. The encryption scheme in this paper has also passed various security analyses to ensure the security of the ciphertext image. (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
