dv-hop Localization algorithm Based on Minimum Mean Square Error in Internet of Things

In the practical application of node positioning in the Internet of Things (IOT), the distribution of beacon nodes is generally non-uniform, so there is a certain error in positioning accuracy. In order to make the positioning more accurate, The MMSdv-hop localization algorithm which improved dv-hop localization algorithm is proposed in this paper. At first, this algorithm needs to determine the valid beacon nodes in a local range by selecting threshold value, and after using minimization criterion of mean-square error and correcting to obtain the final average hop distance. The dynamic weight is added with the hop number and the number of valid nodes as weights to determine the distance between the unknown nodes and the beacon nodes. A Weighted centroid localization algorithm and a weighted least square method are used to obtain an estimated position separately and the final position is determined by the arithmetic mean value of the two estimated positions. The Matlab simulation experiment shows that compared with the dv-hop localization algorithm, the improved MMSdv-hop localization algorithm has increased significantly in the positioning accuracy.

Many improved dv-hop localization algorithm have been proposed to enhance the localization accuracy of dv-hop algorithm for wireless sensor networks. These proposed improvements of dv-hop also have some drawbacks in terms of time and energy consumption. In this paper, we propose Novel dv-hop localization algorithm that provides efficient localization with lesser communication cost without requiring additional hardware. The proposed algorithm completely eliminates communication from one of the steps by calculating hop-size at unknown nodes. It significantly reduces time and energy consumption, which is an important improvement over dv-hop-based algorithms. The algorithm also uses improvement term to refine the hop-size of anchor nodes. Furthermore, unconstrained optimization is used to achieve better localization accuracy by minimizing the error terms ( ranging error) in the estimated distance between anchor node and unknown node. Log-normal shadowing path loss model is used to simulate the algorithms in a more realistic environment. Simulation results show that the performance of our proposed algorithm is better when compared with dv-hop algorithm and improved dv-hop-based algorithms in all considered scenarios.

In order to increase the indoor positioning accuracy and reduce the positioning error in wireless sensor network, the Bacterial Foraging Optimization algorithm is introduced to improve the dv-hop algorithm. The conventional dv-hop algorithm is not very accurate in calculating the average distance per-hop, and it greatly affects the positioning accuracy. Hence, a new BFO-dv-hop (Bacterial Foraging Optimization dv-hop) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The conventional dv-hop algorithm calculates the average distance per-hop based on the Euclidean distance and the minimum number of hops directly, and the random distribution of the irregular network topology leads to the low accuracy in average hop distance estimation. In BFO-dv-hop algorithm, the average distance per-hop is calculated by the Bacterial Foraging Optimization algorithm (BFO) by using the minimum hops of nodes and the position information of anchor nodes. Simulation results show that 30% beacon anchors can effectively reduce the positioning error, and 10% beacon anchors can get a better performance compared with conventional algorithms.

A fundamental problem in designing sensors network is locating their position. The data collected from the sensors can be used to detect, track and organize objects of interest. In this paper, we present and evaluate an improvement of the famous dv-hop algorithm in order to increase the localization accuracy and reduce energy consumption. The benefits of the suggested algorithm are twofold. First, it uses a new technique for solving an N-equation system and a weighted least squares method (WLS) to minimize the error of the expected distance between anchor and unknown nodes. Second, this method uses the hop-size average of the anchor node, which is computed by unknown nodes, to reduce the overall communication cost between nodes. This yields a significant reduction in both energy consumption and execution time. The performance of our proposed approach was evaluated and compared to other classical algorithms. Results show that significant enhancement is achieved within the proposed algorithm when measuring different metrics such as energy, execution time and localization error while varying simulation parameters such as the total number of nodes, percentage of anchor node and communication range.

For many wireless sensor networks applications, a powerful localization algorithm is required to determine the exact positions of sensor nodes. In this paper, a new localization algorithm is presented which combines the distance vector hop (dv-hop) algorithm with the shuffled shepherd optimization algorithm to determine the position for each unknown node within 3-D space. Studying the localization problem in 3-D space is more realistic, but more challenging due to the enlarged search space. Comparison of our proposed algorithm with its alternatives in literature shows that it offers improved accuracy and more stable performance with respect to changes in nodes density and communication range.

Aiming at the low accuracy of dv-hop localization algorithm in three-dimensional localization of wireless sensor network, a dv-hop localization algorithm optimized by adaptive cuckoo search algorithm was proposed in this paper. Firstly, an improved dv-hop algorithm was proposed, which can reduce the localization error of dv-hop algorithm by controlling the network topology and improving the method for calculating average hop distance. Meanwhile, aiming at the slow convergence in traditional cuckoo search algorithm, the adaptive strategy was improved for the step search strategy and the bird's nest recycling strategy. And the adaptive cuckoo search algorithm was introduced to the process of node localization to optimize the unknown node position estimation. The experiment results show that compared with the improved dv-hop algorithm and the traditional dv-hop algorithm, the dv-hop algorithm optimized by adaptive cuckoo search algorithm improved the localization accuracy and reduced the localization errors.

Aiming at the problem of poor positioning accuracy of the traditional distance vector-hop(dv-hop) localization algorithm which achieves positioning according to the network topology relations and the anchor nodes' locations,an improved twice-refinement dv-hop localization algorithm based on received signal strength indicator(RSSI) auxiliary ranging and unknown node error correction using its own centroid is proposed in this *** improved algorithm uses RSSI ranging technology to get the distance between adjacent nodes for auxiliary positioning,and also uses the centroid coordinates of the unknown nodes to correct their own initial positioning results,then re-positions the unknown nodes by using the corrected *** results show that,in the same experimental environment,compared with the traditional dv-hop algorithm and several current improved dv-hop algorithms,without additional hardware expenditures,the improved dv-hop algorithm of this paper only needs the nodes with RSSI indicator function and adds a little computation and communication overhead,greatly reduces the node localization error and improves the localization accuracy.

dv-hop algorithm is a range free algorithm that uses hop distance in its calculations. An improved dv-hop algorithm is proposed by changing the average hop-size. The evaluation of the performance was carried out on wireless sensor network localization. Sensors were placed according to two functions;pseudo random and sobol quasi random. The latter was chosen because it guarantees space coverage when space dimensions increase. Localization errors are compared to those of the basic dv-hop algorithm. The proposed algorithm proved effectiveness in remarkably decreasing the localization error of the sensors. An important application is in a nuclear power plant process control test facility (NPCTF) where a wireless sensor network is an effective tool to collect data for fault diagnostics. The location of the fault is crucial. Hence, minimum localization error is of utmost importance.

In order to solve the problem of poor localization accuracy of dv-hop algorithm, an improved dv-hop algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on RSSI technology to modify the hop count between nodes. The concept of basic signal strength of node which will be used to modify hop count is proposed in this paper. The hop coefficient and hopsize coefficient are set up to modify hop count and hop size of unknown nodes respectively. In addition, the packet life cycle is put forward to limit the transmission distance of network data packets. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm has better localization accuracy and can reduce the estimation error of hop count and hop size between nodes significantly.
