Phase-Change Memory (PCM) has emerged as a promising memory and storage technology in recent years, and Multi-Level-Cell (MLC) PCM further reduces the per-bit cost to improve its competitiveness by storing multiple bits in each PCM cell. However, MLC PCM has high energy consumption issue in its write operations. In contrast to existing works that try to enhance the energy efficiency of the physical program&verify strategy for MLC PCM, this work proposes a drift-tolerant coding scheme to enable the fast write operation on MLC PCM without sacrificing any data accuracy. By exploiting the resistance drift and asymmetric write characteristic of PCM cells, the proposed scheme can reduce the write energy consumption of MLC PCM significantly. Meanwhile, a segmentation strategy is proposed to further improve the write performance with our coding scheme. A series of analyses and experiments was conducted to evaluate the capability of the proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme can reduce 6.2-17.1% energy consumption and 3.2-11.3% write latency under six representative benchmarks, compared with the existing well-known schemes.

We examine whether speech durations and speech content vary by social structure in groups and the content of preceding speeches. Men actors are structural equals in groups, an observable interaction order emerges front interaction processes. When we experimentally impose authority, skill, or sentiment structures structural advantage is related to longer speech durations. Men structures are combined such that an actor is advantaged in more than one social structure, then the actor engages in shorter speech durations, although dominance (as measured by perceived contributions to the group) remains high for the actor. In addition, the likelihood that an actor contributes a solution to a group problem or invites other contributions is highly dependent on whether the preceding speech included positive feedback. The expected interdependence between contributions and invitations to contribute was not evident in our data. Thus our research provides new insight on the sequential dependencies between speech acts in groups.

Experimental model of holographic memory applying the offered method was tested. Possibility of multichannel optical head application for data recording and retrieving is shown. Wet photochemical processing is disadvantage of argentum halogenide recording media. Argentum halogenide "PFG-03M" produced by Slavich Company was considered for applying in holographic memory system. Photosensitive layer of "PFG-03M" has thickness similar to 7-12 mu m. The optical scheme of the multiplex holograms record device using a multichannel writing head, where number of channels is equal to number of micro-holograms in the multiplex hologram, is developed. The central part collimated a bunch is used as the basic bunch falling on the photosensitive medium perpendicularly its surface. The peripheral ring part collimated a bunch is distributed by system of mirrors on channels of the multichannel writing head, symmetrized concerning an axis of the basic bunch.

Political knowledge research faces a problem, perhaps even a crisis. For two decades, the American National Election Studies asked open-ended questions about political knowledge and coded answers using procedures that are neither reliable nor replicable and that were never shown to be optimally valid. Consequently, conclusions based on these widely used measures of the public's competence are in doubt. This article presents several new and overdue methodological improvements: coding knowledge data using formal and specific coding rules based on a substantive rationale for the validity of the codes, recognizing partially correct answers, using multiple coders working independently, using machine coding, and testing reliability and validity. The new methods are an improvement because they are transparent and replicable and they produce valid and extremely reliable knowledge data. Further, machine coding produces codes nearly identical to those from a team of human coders, at much lower cost.

Using grounded theory as an example, this paper examines three methodological questions that are generally applicable to all qualitative methods. How should the usual scientific canons be reinterpreted for qualitative research? How should researchers report the procedures and canons used in their research? What evaluative criteria should be used in judging the research products? We propose that the criteria should be adapted to fit the procedures of the method. We demonstrate how this can be done for grounded theory and suggest criteria for evaluating studies following this approach. We argue that other qualitative researchers might be similarly specific about their procedures and evaluative criteria.

The atomic functions-based image processing system (AFIPS) is based on discrete atomic transform (DAT). It provides a combination of image encryption and compression features with a machine learning-oriented data format. Taking into account the current data processing and analysis trends, applying AFIPS is promising. In this paper, a problem of its complexity reduction is considered. The new coding scheme, which ensures a significant decrease in the number of arithmetic operations, is proposed, and its efficiency exploration is given in terms of different indicators. In particular, it is shown that the proposed modification of AFIPS provides a higher compression ratio and, hence, greater memory savings when applying this algorithm with three modes of the DAT procedure: classic, block-splitting, and chroma-subsampling. Also, the suggested improvement reduces the time complexity that is illustrated by processing a satellite image dataset. In addition, the practical aspects of the further applications, including UAV image processing and analysis, are discussed.
