In the present paper, we present a new approach for data encoding in the THz frequency domain. We proposed a structure based on a 1D periodic stack of dielectric layers whose thickness is of the order of the wavelength, i. e. in the millimeter range. Such a device exhibits well known forbidden band gap (FBG) behavior when illuminated by an electromagnetic wave. We suggest modifying the periodicity of the stack to create defect levels in the 1st FBG to encode binary information. The layers are made of low cost dielectric materials such as pure low density polyethylene (LDPE) and a mixture of LDPE with mineral charges like CaCO3 or TiO2 as respectively low (L) and high (H) refractive index material. We show that such a device can be used for binary data encoding in the frequency range from 150 to 600 GHz with encoding capacities greater than 10 bits.

In a typical data-processing program, the representation of data in memory is distinct from its representation in a serialized form on disk. The former has pointers and arbitrary, sparse layout, facilitating easy manipulation by a program, while the latter is packed contiguously, facilitating easy I/O. We propose a language, LoCal, to unify in-memory and serialized formats. LoCal extends a region calculus into a location calculus, employing a type system that tracks the byte-addressed layout of all heap values. We formalize LoCal and prove type safety, and show how LoCal programs can be inferred from unannotated source terms. We transform the existing Gibbon compiler to use LoCal as an intermediate language, with the goal of achieving a balance between code speed and data compactness by introducing just enough indirection into heap layouts, preserving the asymptotic complexity of traditional representations, but working with mostly or completely serialized data. We show that our approach yields significant performance improvement over prior approaches to operating on packed data, without abandoning idiomatic programming with recursive functions.

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary academic field that analyzes biological data using modern techniques. However, there are several drawbacks that can threaten the credibility of analyses using bioinformatics because of the massive quantity of data. So, in this paper, we suggested a new DNA sequence data-compressing method called "Binaling". We effectively compressed DNA sequence data using the chemical similarity between the third base of codons which designates same amino acid. We proved the bit compressibility of data and the integrity of "Binaling" by conducting two experiments using sequence data of viruses. This method has its originality of utilizing biological knowledge, not computer science. "Binaling" can help biologists analyze and research DNA sequence data more efficiently and quickly.

Web-based visualization of large-scale 3D city models and urban digital twins is essential for various applications, such as urban planning, infrastructure management, environmental analysis, and public participation. The widely used OGC CityGML standard to store semantically rich large-scale 3D city models is not well suited for web-based visualization due to its GML encoding. The conversion of CityGML-based 3D city models to web-friendly formats like 3D Tiles and I3S often leads to data loss due to the inability of such streaming formats in preserving hierarchical organization and semantic relationships inherent in the CityGML data model. Additionally, inconsistencies may arise during maintenance or updates primarily due to the secondary usage of these formats rather than being used as a direct encoding. Therefore, in this paper, we present the concept of using I3S as a direct encoding for CityGML 3.0. The recently released CityGML 3.0 version distinctly separates its conceptual data model from the data encoding. This significant change enables the provision of additional encoding specifications beyond GML, a capability that was not possible in the previous version, CityGML 2.0. This opens a new paradigm where CityGML payloads could be optimized using existing 3D encodings such as OGCs Indexed 3D Scene Layers (I3S) standard, designed to support 3D streaming and distribution of large volumes of 3D content through a combination of Level of Detail (LoD) and selection criteria. The advantage of CityGML I3S encoding is that it combines a semantically rich 3D city model with a bounding volume hierarchy (BVH) optimized for streaming large-scale 3D city models in multiple resolutions. A new capability that enables the consumption of CityGML content, without data conversion, directly in web-enabled systems. To demonstrate this concept, we evaluated the suitability of encoding a CityGML 3.0 indoor model for one of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT Stuttgart)

A thorough study of an all-optical chaotic communication system, including experimental realization real-world testing and performance characterization through bit-error-rate analysis, is presented. Pseudorandom data that are effectively encrypted in the chaotic emitter and sent for transmission are recovered at the receiver with bit-error-rate (BER) values as low as 10(-7) for 1 Gb/s data rate. Different data code lengths and bit-rates at the Gb/s region have been tested. Optical transmission using 100km fiber spools in an in-situ experiment and 120km in an installed optical network showed that chaotic communication systems does not act as a considerably deteriorating factor in the final performance.

Signal strength (SS) based tag estimation significantly improves the accuracy and speed of RFID tag interrogation. In [1], SS estimation was applied to a Manchester based RFID system and a formula for the lower bound on number of tags was derived. This paper analytically extends this analysis to a comprehensive list of encoding formats including all those used in commercially available tags. The developed formulas are shown to be based on properties of the line encoding. Our analysis shows that Manchester is the most appropriate encoding scheme for the signal strength estimation method.

In this paper we present a novel data encoding scheme to reduce the power dissipation and the energy consumption of the communication system in a Network-on-Chip (NoC) based System-on-Chip (SoC). As technology shrinks an ever more significant fraction of the overall system power/energy budget is due to the on-chip interconnect. It is therefore essential the definition of new methodologies and techniques aimed at optimizing the on-chip communication system not only in terms of performance but also in terms of power. The idea presented in this paper is based on encoding the packets before they are injected into the network in such a way as to minimize both the switching activity and the coupling switching activity in the NoC's links which represent the main factors of power dissipation.

Privacy and security-related concerns are growing as machine learning reaches diverse application domains. The data holders want to train or infer with private data while exploiting accelerators, such as GPUs, that are hosted in the cloud. Cloud systems are vulnerable to attackers that compromise the privacy of data and integrity of computations. Tackling such a challenge requires unifying theoretical privacy algorithms with hardware security capabilities. This paper presents DarKnight, a framework for large DNN training while protecting input privacy and computation integrity. DarKnight relies on cooperative execution between trusted execution environments (TEE) and accelerators, where the TEE provides privacy and integrity verification, while accelerators perform the bulk of the linear algebraic computation to optimize the performance. In particular, DarKnight uses a customized data encoding strategy based on matrix masking to create input obfuscation within a TEE. The obfuscated data is then offloaded to GPUs for fast linear algebraic computation. DarKnight's data obfuscation strategy provides provable data privacy and computation integrity in the cloud servers. While prior works tackle inference privacy and cannot be utilized for training, DarKnight's encoding scheme is designed to support both training and inference.

A 2-bit Chip less RFID tag is developed using a modified quad coupled resonator. The feedline is specially modified for exciting a rectangular complimentary split ring resonator between 5 to 7 GHz. The tag consists of two CSRR resonating at 5.78 GHz and 6.43 GHz where each resonator encodes bits of information with a dedicated frequency allocation for data encoding. The improved prototype provides an improvement of 800 MHz compared to a conventional circular split ring resonator. This is mainly because of an enhanced coupled due to the specially modified quad feed line exciting the rectangular resonator in the ground plane. The RFID tag is designed in CST MWS and a detailed analysis is carried out for the developed prototype.
