We detail a method to facilitate development of real-time applications on heterogeneous multiprocessors. We introduce a new model of computation that allows for nondeterminate communication between independent dataflow graphs. The graphs may communicate in a manner that does not introduce data dependencies between them. We examine the implications of this model, introduce the necessary communication actors, and discuss scheduling techniques for multiple independent graphs. We also illustrate this model with some examples of real-time systems that have been constructed in Ptolemy.< >

The definition of a novel kind of special-purpose integrated architecture which is derived from a functional decomposition of low level image processing algorithms is discussed. Algorithms are described based on functional programming proposed by J. Backus (1978), so that programs are expressions to be transformed in dataflow graphs. Due to image processing algorithm properties, most such data flow graphs are regular and can be implemented on a mesh-connected programmable dataflow functional computer.< >

A graph G = (V, E) is said to be pancyclic if it contains cycles of all lengths from 4 to |V| in G. Let F/sub e/ be the set of faulty edges. In this paper, we show that an n-dimensional Mobius cube, n /spl ges/ 1, contains a fault-free Hamiltonian path when |F/sub e/| /spl les/ n-1. We also show that an n-dimensional Mobius cube, n /spl ges/ 2, is pancyclic when |F/sub e/| /spl les/ n-2. Since an n-dimensional Mobius cube is regular of degree n, both results are optimal in the worst case.

This paper deals with the computation of a single super-resolution image from a set of low-resolution images, where the motion fields are not constrained to be parametric. In our approach, the inversion process, in which the super-resolved image is inferred from the input data, is interleaved with the computation of a set of dense optical flow fields. The case of arbitrary motion presents several significant challenges. First of all, the super-resolution setting dictates that the optic flow computations must be very precise. Furthermore, we have to consider the possibility that certain parts of the scene, which are visible in the super-resolved image, are occluded in some of the input images. Such occlusions must be identified and dealt with in the restoration process. We propose a Bayesian approach to tackle these problems. In this framework, the input images are regarded as sub-sampled and noisy versions of the unknown high-quality image. Also, the input data is considered incomplete, in the sense that we do not know which pixels from the evolving super-resolution image are occluded in particular images from the input set. This will be modeled by introducing so-called visibility maps, which are treated as hidden variables. We describe an EM-algorithm, which iterates between estimating values for the hidden quantities, and optimizing the flow-fields and the super-resolution image. The approach is illustrated with a synthetic and a challenging real-world example.

Information-flow analysis is a powerful technique for reasoning about the sensitive information exposed by a program during its execution. We present the first automatic method for information-flow analysis that discovers what information is leaked and computes its comprehensive quantitative interpretation. The leaked information is characterized by an equivalence relation on secret artifacts, and is represented by a logical assertion over the corresponding program variables. Our measurement procedure computes the number of discovered equivalence classes and their sizes. This provides a basis for computing a set of quantitative properties, which includes all established information-theoretic measures in quantitative information-flow. Our method exploits an inherent connection between formal models of qualitative information-flow and program verification techniques. We provide an implementation of our method that builds upon existing tools for program verification and information-theoretic analysis. Our experimental evaluation indicates the practical applicability of the presented method.

A program's call graph is an essential underlying structure for performing the various interprocedural analyses used in software development tools for object-oriented software systems. For interactive software development tools and software maintenance activities, the call graph needs to remain fairly precise and be updated quickly in response to software changes. The paper presents incremental algorithms for updating a call graph that has been initially constructed using the Cartesian Product Algorithm, which computes a highly precise call graph in the presence of dynamically dispatched message sends. Templates are exploited to reduce unnecessary reanalysis as software component changes occur. The preliminary empirical results from our implementation within a Java environment are encouraging. Significant time savings were observed for the incremental algorithm in comparison with an exhaustive analysis, with no loss in precision.

Most performance analysis tools in existence today are closely associated with traditional programming languages. Hence a user cannot model a software system using a performance modeling technique directly. The authors consider this problem and describe a graphic modeling technique and a support tool (GPAS). GPAS can accept the model in a graphical form independent of any programming language and use it to evaluate the computation's performance. An example is used to show the feasibility of using this approach.< >

In this study,we have developed a three-dimensional (3D) optical flow program that includes a multi-resolution feature and applied to 3D anatomic structure and gross tumor volume(GTV) contour mapping for four-dimensional computed tomography((4D CT) data. Actual 4D CT data sets from one lung cancer patient and one esophageal tumor patient,10 phases were reconstructed per respiratory cycle *** the four-dimensional (4D) data sets,a physician contoured anatomic structures and GTV on the end-inspiration phase. The motion fields calculated by 3D optical flow algorithm that includes a multi-resolution *** contours of lung, esophageal and tumor elastically mapped from end-expiration to all the other respiration phases using optical flow. The mapped contours in 4D CT images of lungs, esophageal,GTV and other structures for actual patient using 3D optical flow program that included multi-resolution feature are acceptable to *** 3D optical flow algorithm that includes a multi-resolution feature can be used for 4D radiation therapy to determine the ITV.

The Lyapunov exponent gives a measure of the mean decay/divergence rates of the flows of nonlinear systems. However, the Lyapunov exponent needs an infinite time interval of flows and the Jacobian matrix of system dynamics. In this paper, we propose an instantaneous decay that is a kind of generalized Lyapunov exponent and call the instantaneous Lyapunov exponent (ILE) with respect to a decay function. The instantaneous Lyapunov exponent is one of the measures that estimate the decay rates of flows of nonlinear systems by assigning a comparison function and can apply a stable system whose decay rate is slower than an exponential function.

Methodologies are developed for improving design quality and the speed of the design process. The authors present the portion of the work which involves the application and extension of neural networks to solve optimization problems that arise in this design process. Specifically, they discuss the use of neural networks to solve the scheduling and allocation problems that arise when assigning operations to control steps and functional units. The goal is to minimize the number of control steps, number of each type of functional unit, allow multi-step operations, and handle bussing constraints. The application of neural networks to high-level computer design has the potential to provide more flexible, advanced computer system design tools.< >
