The construction industry is highly fragmented. A large number of diverse organizations participate in the planning, design, and construction of each constructed project. Cooperation between project participants necessitates the transfer of large quantities of project information. Communication, in many forms, is the means for data exchange among participants. Availability and timeliness of the data needed to perform different project tasks may decrease the potential for project delay(s) and rework, thus increase productivity. This paper discusses the use of the ''structured analysis'' methodology to document the communication process. The paper also discusses the use of a shared-data resource to solve some of the communication and standardization problems in the construction industry. An overview of the structured analysis methodology is provided. data flow diagrams, a data dictionary, and transform descriptions comprise the tools for implementing structured analysis. Each tool is briefly described with emphasis given to data flow diagrams. Portions of the communication process documented for a highway bridge project administered by Wisconsin Department of Transportation are provided as an example to illustrate the use of data flow diagrams for information flow identification. The example also presents the use of the data dictionary as a supplementary document to provide composition and definition of data elements. Selected communication difficulties among project participants as well as potential areas of modifications and (or) automation in the current system are highlighted. This paper provides a framework for tracking and documenting the information flow between project participants.

As to the complexity data transmission and processing of web to print (W2P) system, The input and output of these data are analyzed and classified in this paper, based on the actual demand of ShangHai TongKun Digital Printing Enterprise, structure analysis method are used to construct the data model of W2P as a form of data flow Diagram(DFD), and then the single order's business flow model are built with Uniform model Language(UML). At last, both the two models are combined to illustrate the corresponding relationship in the data exchanges. This study is helpful to analyze data of W2P system and can decrease risk during software's development.

In this paper we explore mapping of a high-level macro data-flow programming model called Concurrent Collections (CnC) onto heterogeneous platforms in order to achieve high performance and low energy consumption while preserving the ease of use of data-flow programming. Modern computing platforms are becoming increasingly heterogeneous in order to improve energy efficiency. This trend is clearly seen across a diverse spectrum of platforms, from small-scale embedded SOCs to large-scale super-computers. However, programming these heterogeneous platforms poses a serious challenge for application developers. We have designed a software flow for converting high-level CnC programs to the Habanero-C language. CnC programs have a clear separation between the application description, the implementation of each of the application components and the abstraction of hardware platform, making it an excellent programming model for domain experts. Domain experts can later employ the help of a tuning expert (either a compiler or a person) to tune their applications with minimal effort. We also extend the Habanero-C runtime system to support work-stealing across heterogeneous computing devices and introduce task affinity for these heterogeneous components to allow users to fine tune the runtime scheduling decisions. We demonstrate a working example that maps a pipeline of medical image-processing algorithms onto a prototype heterogeneous platform that includes CPUs, GPUs and FPGAs. For the medical imaging domain, where obtaining fast and accurate results is a critical step in diagnosis and treatment of patients, we show that our model offers up to 17.72x speedup and an estimated usage of 0.52x of the power used by CPUs alone, when using accelerators (GPUs and FPGAs) and CPUs.

Principles to Support Modular Software Construction

The construction of large software systems is always achieved through assembly of independently written components -- program modules. For these software components to work together, they must share a common set of data types and principles for representing structured data such as arrays of values and files. This common set of tools for creating and operating on data objects is provided by the infrastructure of the computer system： the hardware, operating system and runtime code. Because the nature and properties of these tools are crucial for correct operation of software components and their inter-operation, it is essential to have a precise specification that may be used for verifying correctness of application software on one hand, and to verify correctness of system behavior on the other. We call such a specification a program execution model （PXM）. It is evident that the properties of the PXM implemented by a computer system can have serious impact on the ability of application programmers to practice modular software construction. This paper discusses the concept of program execution models and presents a set of principles that a PXM must satisfy to provide a sound basis for modular software construction. Because parallel program execution on computer systems with many processing units is an essential part of contemporary computing environments, the expression of parallelism and modular software construction using components involving parallel operations is included in this treatment. The conclusion is that it is possible to build computer systems that implement a PXM within which any parallel program may be used, unmodified, as a component for building more substantial parallel programs.

Complexity-Aware Gabor Filter Bank Architecture Using Principal Component Analysis

A Gabor filter quantifies signal characteristics with the optimal resolution in both time and frequency domains, and it has been widely used in image processing and computer vision applications since the extracted features which mimic human vision to provide good capability for differentiation. We usually require many Gabor filters to extract multi-scale and multi-orientation features;and hence, it introduces heavy computational load. Based on Algorithm/Architecture Co-exploration (AAC), this paper proposes a computationally efficient method of Gabor filter bank through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) analysis and low rank approximation. PCA projects filter coefficients onto a more symmetric vector space, then, the computation load is reduced by sharing coefficients;on the other hand, while trading off between algorithmic accuracy and computational efficiency, low rank approximation approximates Gabor filter bank to reduce computational load via removing less important components measured by PCA. Furthermore, we also propose an efficient approximation evaluation method to measure potential loss in trading off algorithmic performance and computational load;hence, designers can adaptively select various approximation levels based on requirements. In a case study, we used Gabor filter bank to evaluate the proposed method, and we used AAC design paradigm for entire design flow. Experimental results showed that proposed method, which reduces similar to 78.5% multiplications and similar to 75.1% additions as compared to conventional approach, has the lowest complexity and the fastest computational speed in comparison with related works;furthermore, while deploying low rank approximation, the proposed method reduced similar to 26% multiplications and similar to 18% additions in comparison with the proposed method without approximation and it achieved comparative algorithmic performance.

Due to their distributed/parallel and data-driven nature, control systems can easily be modeled according to a data flow approach. Control systems are very often real-time systems;therefore, a formalism able to capture timing is required. In this paper we introduce a data flow model that includes time and priority for specifying real-time control systems and we give its formal semantics. The control system is specified by a data flow network which, beside the controller, may include the model of the plant at some abstraction level. Time is associated to any computational activity and time accounting is made directly in the model and not as a separate issue. Priorities allow to deal with events, as alarm signals, which cannot be delayed. A general framework for the indirect evaluation of the model is introduced, and a data flow network to timed Petri net transformation is defined allowing the utilization of the automatic tools of Petri nets for analyzing the temporal properties of the data how network. The approach is illustrated by an example in which, after the application of the transformation, selected performance measures are computed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Study attempts to show that our machine architecture based on the data flow model is suitable for two types of logic programming languages with different aims: one is Parallel Prolog and the other is Concurrent Prolog. The data flow model can naturally implement parallel computation, and it has close similarity to these languages. Unification and nondeterministic control, two basic functions of these languages, are represented by data flow graphs and interpreted by the machine. Several representations of variables, that facilitate the development of parallel unification and nondeterministic control mechanisms for these languages, the unification and control primitives needed to execute these languages on this architecture are presented.

In this paper, we introduce the IaaS "PriArmor" (Privacy Armor) solution for privacy preservation in the cloud. This approach allows the data owner (tenant and/or end users) to define his privacy requirements and to include regulations policy based on a privacy ontology model that captures all privacy concepts related to the data access and usage in the cloud. The PriArmor approach allows the enforcement of usage control requirements at a low level using a System Call Interception (SCI) technique that enables detecting the intention for policy breaching and inhibiting it. Moreover, the PriArmor approach introduces a data flow model that tracks private data and reflects the existence of derived data through the system to maintain a strong enforcement level. The performed evaluation proves the efficiency of our approach for ensuring policy enforcement in the cloud environment.
