Baseband data handling (BDH) system is one of the major subsystems in the Payload data downlink chain in all the remote sensing satellite missions. Its main functionality is to collect payload data, align data, compress the same and organize as space packets, multiplex these space packets into transfer frames that can be stored or downlinked for further transmission. Furthermore, encryption and channel coding are performed at the downlink chain. As the resolution of payload increases, data volume and number of ports from payloads increase drastically. To handle this high data rate, a modular and scalable architecture is required which focuses on realization cost and realization time. This paper focuses on advanced, cost effective, modular high data rate data handling system with many advanced features like DWT based Slice Redundant Compression system, On Board Radiometric Correction, Variable Integration time for payloads, configurable formatter, selectable compression ratio, programmable NUC coefficients for different TDI stages and SPI protocol for communication between different subsystems of BDH system. At present, this system is flown in a High Resolution Remote Sensing Satellite and providing excellent services. Same system will be reused for future missions.

In this paper we highlight strategies and choices that make the Dφ data handling system markedly different from many other experiments' systems. We emphasize how far the Dφ system has come in innovating and implementing a Dφ-specific data Grid system. We discuss experiences during the first months of detector commissioning and give some future plans for the system.

HEAVY TRAFFIC ANALYSIS OF A data-TRANSMISSION system WITH MANY INDEPENDENT SOURCES

A data transmission system is considered with N independent sources and a single transmitter and a large buffer. The sources alternate between on and off states in various Markovian ways and create messages during the on periods. The creation model might be either the classical model or a Poisson stream. The traffic is heavy in that the service rate is only slightly greater than the stationary rate of creation of messages. Asymptotic results on the scaled queue length process are obtained as the number of sources tends to infinity. Weak convergence methods are used. The limit process is of the reflected diffusion type. The approach is very flexible and relatively simple to use. The service time process can be rather arbitrary. Several classes of customer types can be readily handled, and the intervals of on and off periods can be of general Erlang type. A transient period can be handled, so that it is not necessary to start with a stationary system. The dynamical systems flavor of both the derivation and the form of the limit processes makes it easy to visualize the results and extensions. The method is appropriate for use for control problems for the physical systems, and numerical methods are available for the approximate computation of functionals of the limit process. Numerical results indicate the power of the method, even when operating not too close to the heavy traffic regime.

The demand for satellites and space systems with ever-increasing avionics requirements is constantly growing, whether in the field of satellite communications or earth observation. Traditional architectures for data handling systems (DHS) on satellites are reaching their limits in terms of flexibility, interoperability and reusability, while slowing down the innovation cycle due to costly qualification. With regard to commercial and industrial solutions, it is evident that 'plug and play'-like systems based on open standards can overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages. For this reason, this paper describes how open standards could affect the architecture of future satellite DHSs. In particular it shows an transition path from the traditional federated architecture to a centralized but modular architecture based on adapted industrial standards.

Examinations in connection with site-specific farming have been carried out by our institute since 1998. Precision farming is a way of agricultural production, which takes into account the in-field variability, a technology where the application-seeding, nutrient replacement, spraying, etc. has taken place to act on the local circumstances of a given field. The geographic information system (GIS) created by computing background makes possible to generate complex view about Our fields and to make valid agrotechnological decisions. Our goal was to compare two systems for marking out further research tasks, because in some cases there have been misunderstandings among the researchers, and the information provided by given companies seems to be complicated for potential users (farmers). When developing the SpaceWire based Sirius data handling system (DHS) for small satellites AAC Microtec has had to address the dual problem of designing for a low cost and in a small form factor while retaining the high performance, availability and longevity required to support advanced science. In order to achieve the low cost a number of strategies have been applied. Notably, the data handling units are generically designed to be reusable either used for other missions as a part of the platforms they were initially targeted for or for use on other platforms, including CubeSats. Also, COTS components known to withstand the space environment have been used for the designs, in a strategy to reduce component costs. To increase reliability, the Sirius DHS units are designed around a Flash-based FPGA to be tolerant to SEE through triple modular redundancy (TMR) and other fault handling techniques and implements SpaceWire as the main data bus, using nano D-sub connectors to save space and weight. The paper explores in more detail the choices made on the data handling units in order to achieve sufficiently high performance and high reliability in a CubeSat compatible form factor at a reasonable price.

In this paper a novel smart control and data handling system based on Atmega128 microcontroller is presented. The proposed system has extensive capabilities in remote controlling and smart quota allocation, such as exclusive RFID card detection and quota allocation system, SAM card, GPS/GPRS/GSM communication system and smart data logger, which can be used in agricultural industries and household consumption. The proposed system can synchronized with various liquid flow meters through network, RS485, RS232 and M-BUS in a secure and encrypted way. Furthermore, implementation results show high efficiency and accuracy in controlling data with high resistance against the data hacking.
