ETRI is involved in developing technologies of GNSS ground infrastructure and next generation search and rescue beacon from 2007 up to 2010. In this paper, we are going to develop signal acquisition, tracking and data decoding algorithm about GPS L5 frequency band. We investigate cold start acquisition schemes by using a FFT algorithm for a GPS L5 software receiver. Since GPS L5 signal is BPSK modulation, tracking algorithm is used by EPL correlator for detecting the navigation data. This algorithm is designed by using SDR technique and verified through the PC-based simulation. In order to test and verify signal processing algorithm, digitized IF signal which is generated through Spirent simulator and ETRI RF section is used. The experimental results for this algorithm will be used for developping FPGA platform.

In LTE, establishing a connection requires a relatively complex handshaking procedure. Such an approach is suitable for a system serving only a few high activity users, but it becomes very cumbersome for machine to machine (M2M) traffic, where large amounts of low activity users intermittently transmit a small number of packets. To avoiding excessive signaling overhead, each packet has to facilitate user detection, channel estimation, and data decoding. Even in the case of limited network activity, users may transmit simultaneously, resulting in packet collisions. It has been shown that such traffic can be best served by a Compressive Sensing (CS) detector. However, most of the CS-based multi-user detection (CS-MUD) research deals with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) type systems. In this work we propose a CS-MUD algorithm that is designed for single carrier OFDM (SC-OFDM) systems and, as such, can be integrated into LTE uplink subframes. Each packet contains both a user identification code (ID) and data. The CS algorithm uses the ID not only for user detection, but also for channel estimation. We investigate random and structured ID code generation and report system performance in both cases.

This work develops a deep unfolding-based variational Bayes (VB) technique called learned-VB for joint channel estimation and data decoding using quantized inputs in a massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) uplink system. The unfolded neural network learns the channel statistics using self-training. The training process does not explicitly optimize to reduce the difference between the actual and estimated channel statistics. Instead, a linear combination of cross-entropy loss between the true and the soft data symbols and the mean squared error loss between the true and the estimated channel is minimized. The performance of the proposed algorithm is studied and compared against a channel statistics-aware VB algorithm under both i.i.d. and correlated channel models. It is found that the deep unfolding model overcomes the dependency on the knowledge of the channel statistics, thus making the approach suitable for unknown or mismatched channel statistics. Specifically, the unfolding-based method performs on par with the vanilla VB inference (VBI) algorithm when the latter has exact knowledge of the channel statistics while offering much better performance when the channel statistics are mismatched.

Due to the limitations of large-scale APD arrays, the traditional airborne LiDAR systems can hardly achieve significant improvement of 3D imaging resolution. To overcome this difficulty, a novel airborne array-encoding LiDAR is proposed in this paper. The system structure and work principle are first presented. Then the key modules involving encoding, multiplexing and data decoding are introduced. In particular, the data decoding method is designed and verified for data processing of the encoded full waveforms. The experimental results indicate that the proposed LiDAR can complete 128x128-pixel 3D imaging with only 64-element APD array under scannerless condition by employing 16x16 array-encoding.

This paper introduces PRAVDA, a new approach for infrastructure based content distribution in a vehicular network. PRAVDA is built on broadcasting and pseudo random network coding. Its first strength is that, being broadcast based, it does not need any feedback channel and thus consumes very little throughput. data is transmitted through network coding: multiple linear combinations of data are sent. A vehicle needs to receive a defined number of independent linear combinations to decode the data. The server will send a larger number of different linear combinations. The unreliability of broadcast is thus fought through a useful redundancy rather than through re-transmission. Finally, computation of the linear combination coefficients is done so that the overhead is the same as it would be without network coding.

In order to solve the key problems of secondary surveillance radar signal debugging on special devices such as DSP and FPGA, a parallel processing scheme of secondary surveillance radar response signal is proposed based on CPU-GPU architecture. It can effectively reduce the difficulty of code development and improve the portability of program. The parallel optimization design of each processing model of response signal is made through the characteristics of shared memory in CPU-GPU architecture to improve the processing speed of the algorithm. The proposed scheme is tested and analyzed on different graphics cards by the secondary surveillance radar Mode-5 response signal in this paper. The experimental results showed that it takes 8390.52960 us to implement the signal processing algorithm based on NVIDIA Tesla K40c graphics card, which can save 51.98% of time than NVIDIA Quadro K4200 graphics card, and makes it possible to do the real-time processing of the secondary surveillance radar signal.

Iterative joint channel estimation and data detection/decoding has been shown to provide good performance in slow fading channels. In fast fading channels, the previously proposed techniques require a significant amount of the transmitted signal to be dedicated to non-data carrying pilot symbols reducing system efficiency. This paper proposes a channel estimation system using an extended Kalman filter to provide an initial estimate of the channel gains which is smoothed using a Discrete Prolate Spheroidal sequence basis expansion model technique. The smoothed channel gain estimates are then fed into a Kalman filter equalizer to provide an improved data signal estimate for calculation of the probabilistic information of the transmitted data for decoding purposes. This technique allows for BER performance within 1 dB of when ideal channel state information is available even when the Doppler frequency is as high as one percent of the data symbol rate. In addition, the proposed technique requires a smaller proportion of pilot symbols to data symbols for acceptable error performance compared to previously proposed methods.

Reliable broadcast is a critical service for Underwater Acoustic Networks (UANs). In this paper, we propose a Two-phase Broadcast Scheme (TBS) for UANs. TBS includes two phases: Fast Spreading phase and data Recovery phase. It does not require topology or neighbor information. In the Fast Spreading phase, which is a best effort phase, opportunistic overhearing and network coding are combined to accumulate encoded packets. A probability based forwarder selection scheme is employed to alleviate the broadcast storm problem. A rebroadcast scheduling algorithm is also proposed to reduce collisions. The data Recovery phase is to guarantee reliability if a node fails to complete data decoding in the Fast Spreading phase. Through delayed request sending, the data Recovery phase at a node will not interfere with the Fast Spreading phase at other nodes. Through simulations, we demonstrate the advantages of TBS in terms of efficiency and reliability.
