data-flow programming based Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring for Electricity in Remote Area

The use of electrical energy in remote areas must be carried out efficiently. This study proposed a load monitoring method in remote areas. This study developed a Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) based on data-flow programming (DFP) by applying a bagging decision tree algorithm to conduct load disaggregation. This study built the DFP and the Graphical User Interface (GUI) in LabVIEW connected to power sensor ADE9153A on Arduino UNO via serial communication. This experiment was conducted on the LabVIEW 2020 running on an Intel i5 2400-3.1 GHz CPU, 16 GB RAM, and 64-bit operating system computer. This study produced a good performance of NILM with 0.9617 of accuracy and 0.9728 of f1-score. The proposed method of the NILM process was suitable for electricity in remote areas because the DFP used in the algorithm is easy to understand, easy to operate, and inexpensive to build. Finally, the NILM technique can improve the efficiency of used electrical energy in remote areas. By applying NILM, the operator can determine the priority of which devices should be ON or OFF at a particular time as needed. In addition, the NILM can contribute to the balancing of small and weak microgrids in scenarios of high renewable energy penetration.

IoT is increasingly being used in different areas of society. IoT is used in society by collecting values acquired by sensor devices through networks and analysing the data. IoT software is needed to use the IoT, but efficient software development methods are desired because software for an increasingly complex society tends to become more complex. This research aims to improve the efficiency of IoT software and develop an intuitive method for developing IoT software. This paper proposes a development methodology that combines a data-flow-based programming approach with a procedural programming language. When the focus is on data, data flow programming is intuitive and efficient. On the other hand, when the focus is on data processing, it is better to use a procedural programming language because data is processed sequentially[1]. In the hybrid IoT programming environment proposed in this paper, the code of a procedural programming language is generated from the description by data flow programming, and the program is executed by a micro controller. The products of this research are available as open source software[2], [3].

Multi-Tasking programming with a Rate-Monotonic Scheduling Based Upon a Visual data flow Language

The presented work concerns the multi-tasking programming of real time applications with a visual language founded on the data flow formalism and with a preemptable scheduler. In that context, we have shown that a direct programming of concurrent data flows leads to a non deterministic execution sequence. So, this result being non acceptable in the most process control environment, a scheduler, based on the rate monotonic algorithm, has been implemented as a specific data flow or task that dispatches the processor access to the other tasks of the set. This programming method opens the opportunity of a multi-tasking programming in a visual data flow language environment with the respect a deterministic execution sequence. This work effectively improves the programming with a visual data flow language in the sense of safety that is the main exigency in a process control application.

DeBasher: a flow-based programming bash extension for the implementation of complex and interactive workflows with stateful processes

BackgroundBioinformatics data analysis faces significant challenges. As data analysis often takes the form of pipelines or workflows, workflow managers (WfMs) have become essential. data flow programming constitutes the preferred approach in WfMs, enabling parallel processes activated reactively based on input availability. While this paradigm typically follows a linear, acyclic progression, cyclic workflows are sometimes necessary in bioinformatics analyses. These cyclic workflows also present an opportunity to explore workflow interactivity, a feature not widely implemented in existing *** propose DeBasher, a tool that adopts the flow-based programming (FBP) paradigm, in which the workflow components are in control of their life cycle and can store state information, allowing the execution of complex workflows that include cycles. DeBasher also incorporates a powerful model of interactivity, where the user can alter the behavior of a running workflow. Additionally, DeBasher allows the user to define triggers so as to initiate the execution of a complete workflow or a part of it. The ability to execute processes with state and in control of their life cycle also has applications in dynamic scheduling tasks. Furthermore, DeBasher presents a series of extra features, including the combination of multiple workflows at runtime through a feature we have called runtime piping, switching to static scheduling to increase scalability, or implementing processes in multiple languages. DeBasher has been successfully used to process 131.7 TB of genomic data by means of a variant calling *** is an FBP Bash extension that can be useful in a wide range of situations and in particular when implementing complex workflows, workflows with interactivity or triggers, or when a high scalability is required.

CS::APEX: A Framework for Algorithm Prototyping and Experimentation with Robotic Systems: Modeling Perception and High Level Robot Control with Activity flow Graphs

Robotic systems differ drastically in their sensory capabilities, their computational power and their designated tasks. For efficient algorithm development, however, we need to have a common modeling framework that enables us to generalize and re-use existing solutions. A modular approach, which is coherent across different platforms, also allows faster prototyping of new systems, given that existing functionality can be reused from already implemented modules. In this paper we develop a modeling framework based on data flow graphs that achieves the following goal: We first merge synchronous data flow and reactive programming into hybrid flow graphs, where we explicitly model synchronous and asynchronous data flow. Then we transfer concepts from finite-state machines to achieve a coherent framework which we call Activity flow Graphs. The flow of activity enables us to model high level states directly in the data flow graph. The result is a single computation graph that can express both perception and high level control aspects of any robotic system. This theoretical foundation is the core of our open-source software framework CS::APEX, which allows the creation, manipulation and evaluation of Activity flow Graphs and enables rapid prototyping and experimentation and can be used with any robot supporting the Robot Operating System (ROS). We then demonstrate the framework with two high level models for a fetch-and-delivery robot and a person following robot.

IoT developers need to integrate a variety of protocols, backend components and services;they often need to pre and post-process data as well as react to changes in the real world. data flow programming tools have been introduced in a number of related domains to provide a flexible, but easy to use visual programming environment for rapid development. The open source Node-RED system provides such a tool for IoT applications, but is limited to executing a single flow file in a single thread. In this paper we describe the design of our system called the Front-End for Node-RED (FRED) that manages multiple instances of Node-RED for logged in users, allowing Node-RED to be used as a cloud-hosted data flow mashup tool for the IoT. We present some examples of how some of our 1800+ users are using FRED for IoT mashups, and some of the challenged we faced in implementing the FRED system.

This paper explores the use of data flow-based design in IoT application development and its integration with the Node-RED programming tool. Node-RED provides a visual interface for creating programs based on the flow of data between nodes. However, Node-RED is not suitable for resource-constrained devices like micro-controllers. To address this, we propose a method of generating mruby code from Node-RED's data flow programs. The generated mruby code can be compiled into device-independent byte-code and executed on the mruby VM. To facilitate the implementation, we introduce the RBoard, a prototyping micro-controller board equipped with the mruby VM firmware. This approach combines the intuitive data flow design of Node-RED with the power of mruby for embedded systems. Through this integration, developers can rapidly prototype IoT applications and leverage the flexibility of scripting languages. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of using data flow-based design and mruby code generation in IoT application development. This research contributes to the advancement of efficient and scalable IoT programming methodologies and enables the creation of innovative IoT solutions on micro-controller platforms.

Algorithmic skeletons are high-level representations for parallel programs that hide the underlying parallelism details from program specification. These skeletons are defined in terms of higher-order functions that can be composed to build larger programs. Many skeleton frameworks support efficient implementations for stand-alone skeletons such as map, reduce, and zip for both shared-memory systems and small clusters. However, in these frameworks, expressing complex skeletons that are constructed through composition of fundamental skeletons either requires complete reimplementation or suffers from limited scalability due to required global synchronization. In the stapl Skeleton Framework, we represent skeletons as parametric data flow graphs and describe composition of skeletons by point-to-point dependencies of their data flow graph representations. As a result, we eliminate the need for reimplementation and global synchronizations in composed skeletons. In this work, we describe the process of translating skeleton-based programs to data flow graphs and define rules for skeleton composition. To show the expressivity and ease of use of our framework, we show skeleton-based representations of the NAS EP, IS, and FT benchmarks. To show reusability and applicability of our framework on real-world applications we show an N-Body application using the FMM (Fast Multipole Method) hierarchical algorithm. Our results show that expressivity can be achieved without loss of performance even in complex real-world applications.

Currently, applications in the Internet of Things (IoT) are tightly coupled to the underlying physical devices. As a consequence, upon adding a device, device replacement or user's relocation to a different physical space, application developers have to re-perform installation and configuration processes to reconfigure applications, which bears costs in time and knowledge of low-level details. In the emerging IoT field, this issue is even more challenging due to its current unpredictable growth in term of applications and connected devices. In addition, IoT applications can be personalised to each end user and can be present in different environments. As a result, IoT scenarios are very changeable, presenting a challenge for IoT applications. In this paper we present Appdaptivity, a system that enables the development of portable device-decoupled applications that can be adapted to changing contexts. Through Appdaptivity, application developers can intuitively create portable and personalised applications, disengaging from the underlying physical infrastructure. Results confirms a good scalability of the system in terms of connected users and components involved.
