Integral equations with a delta-like kernel are considered that arise when processing the spectra of physical processes, in pulse engineering, and when analyzing time series. When solving these equations, one usually employs estimates obtained on the basis of the Legendre and Gauss least squares method and their regularized versions in the form of the method of orthogonal projections. Unlike these approaches, the present study analyzes a version of the least squares method that is based on the theory of entire functions when the spectrum and the length of a function are related through the uncertainty relation.

data processing and display algorithms that have general utility to the processing of statistically poor data and its subsequent presentation on digital or digitally generated analog displays have been developed for microprocessor-based portable radiation instrumentation. By using a modified exponentially weighted filter, the data displayed become easy to interpret in a much shorter amount of time than normally required. The apparent time constant can be dynamically adjusted based on the statistical validity of the data. Related algorithms are used for the simulation of an analog meter movement and for handling range changing on digital displays. When used together, these algorithms produce an accurate, stable presentation of data that is also considered visually pleasing.< >

The oceanographic community routinely collects time series data of hydrography, water current velocity, and other basic physical, chemical, and biological properties of the marine environment. Such data are essential for establishing baseline characteristics of marine and estuarine ecosystems. However, the task of taking the raw data files as downloaded from a variety of instruments from multiple manufacturers, and converting them into file formats that can be used to address specific research questions, can be highly complex and time consuming. To illustrate some of these complexities, we have thoroughly documented the data processing steps for a small coastal ocean observing system near Mobile Bay, Alabama, that has been in operation since 2004. Our goals were to produce documentation and data provenance in sufficient detail for full science reproducibility of all studies that use data from this system, provide a template for other ocean observation operations, and highlight a need for better recognition of the significant amount of time and expertise often required to do both the data processing and the documentation for long-term observational systems.

A new BASIC program of the weighted linear, quadratic and cubic logit-log regression methods for data processing of radioimmunoassay standard curve was developed using a microcomputer. Using this program, 3 regression analyses are calculated and the table for root mean square of residuals in each regression are shown for the selection of the regression method. The data of 3 radioimmunoassays of human pancreatic enzymes and pancreatic secretory trypsin inhibitor were examined by this program and compared with those processed by the 4-parameter logistic method. The weighted cubic logit-log regression showed better fit in radioimmunoassays of human pancreatic enzymes with larger MW. The program is useful and practicable for its simplicity and accuracy.

NMR velocimetry in Couette rheo-NMR experiments is known to be accurate within the limit that the fluid undergoes small displacements during the sequence. In this work, it is shown that even when this last requirement can not be fulfilled, some good-quality measurements may however be extracted from raw data. A data processing method is developed, which increases the range of measurable velocity by a factor of 10, without any necessary chance in the sequence. The method is validated on simulated, noise-free. NMR data. The simulation method, which takes into account coherence pathway selection, is also described.

Using a neural network, we have developed a program for fast and precise detection of action potentials (AP) in raw multi-channel optical recording data. The AP detection was performed in two steps: first, peaks were detected in raw optical data, and, second, the peaks were classified by the neural network into APs, noise and undecided peaks. The network was optimized and trained by the backpropagation learning algorithm, employing some thousands of manually classified peaks. The performance of the optimized network was found to be not completely satisfactory, although it was better than the classification by template matching and nearest-neighbor rules. The addition of a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a peak to the network classification improved the classification performance: in comparison with the manual classification results, 96% of manually classified APs were detected. The causes of classification errors were discussed. In spite of the fact that the program required a slight amount of human intervention for undecided peaks, the program could allow mostly automatic AP detection.

Mobile mapping systems (MMSs) are used for mapping topographic and urban features which are difficult and time consuming to measure with other instruments. The benefits of MMSs include efficient data collection and versatile usability. This paper investigates the data processing steps and quality of a boat-based mobile mapping system (BoMMS) data for generating terrain and vegetation points in a river environment. Our aim in data processing was to filter noise points, detect shorelines as well as points below water surface and conduct ground point classification. Previous studies of BoMMS have investigated elevation accuracies and usability in detection of fluvial erosion and deposition areas. The new findings concerning BoMMS data are that the improved data processing approach allows for identification of multipath reflections and shoreline delineation. We demonstrate the possibility to measure bathymetry data in shallow (0-1 m) and clear water. Furthermore, we evaluate for the first time the accuracy of the BoMMS ground points classification compared to manually classified data. We also demonstrate the spatial variations of the ground point density and assess elevation and vertical accuracies of the BoMMS data.
