The physics program of experiments at the Super-c tau factory with a peak luminosity of 10(35) cm(-2)s(-1) leads to high requrements for data Acquisition and data Storage systems. Detector data storage is one of the key component of the detector infrastructure, so it must be reliable, highly available and fault tolerant shared storage. It is mostly oriented (from end user point of view) for sequential but mixed read and write operations and is planed to store large data blocks (files). According to CDR of Super-C-Tau factory detector data storage must have very high performance (up to 1 Tbps in both directions simultaneously) and have significant volume (tens and hundreds of Petabytes). It is decided to build a series of prototypes with growing capabilities to investigate storage and neighboring technologies. First prototype of data storage is aimed to develop and test basic components of detector data storage system such as storage devices, networks and software. This prototype is designed to be capable to work with data rate of order 10 Gbps. It is estimated that about 5 modern computers with about 50 disks in total should be enough to archive required performance. The prototype will be based on Ceph storage technology. Ceph is a distributed storage system which allows to create storage solutions with very flexible design, high availability and scalability.

The UFXC32k is a single photon counting hybrid pixel detector with 75 mu m pixel pitch. It was designed to cope with high X-ray intensities and therefore it is a very good candiate for synchrotron applications. In order to use this detector in an application, a dedicated setup must be designed and built allowing proper operation of the detector within the experiment. The paper presents two setups built for the purpose of Pump-Probe-Probe experiments at the Synchrotron SOLEIL and XPCS experiments at the APS.

Optic spectroscopy methods are employed for plasma facing component (PFC) material diagnostics and H isotopes retention on various platforms. A common issue of those spectroscopy methods is the measurement sensitivity. Various improvement methods have been investigated. In the current work, a 'reversed-slit' method is explored, aiming to maximise signal input while retain a reasonably good line resolution. A thin metal wire with a diameter that is comparable to a normal slit width is placed in front of an open slit. By opening the slit the input of the emission light is maximised. The thin wire casts a line of shadow on the spectral image. The shadow line is used as the 'characteristic line' to identify and separate the spectral line of each H isotope. The result shows that an open slit of 3 mm width can bring an intensity increase of 20-30 times compared to a 100 mu m wide normal slit without compromising the resolution.

The pace of development of information systems nowadays demonstrates the magnitude of the demand for digitization of all aspects of our lives, such as medicine, industry, and documentation of cultural heritage. Digitization is the process of converting objects from the real world into their digital representations. In order to acquire complete and detailed information about the whole surface of an object, several 3D scans have to be taken from different perspectives. The resulting 3D object can be acquired in a form of a numerous amount of 3D point clouds overlaying each other. Sometimes, depending on a quality of a 3D scanner and surface properties, the point clouds can represent a noisy geometrical surface and an incorrect colour. Moreover, the directional point clouds are not perfectly aligned and a registration between them must be applied. The registration of the point clouds is a complex task which is not always possible to automate. Usually, the entire process of registration has to be supervised by a skilled operator. The registration is usually divided into two parts: initial and final matching. Initial matching is a more complex one and in this scenario, it is supported by the known system calibration, which includes, e.g., robotic arm, head of the scanner, sources of lights. Using ICP based algorithms afterward is usually enough to get appropriate final matching. The difficulty of point cloud registration increase accordingly to the number of directional clouds of points to integrate. The aim of this paper is to propose a methodology to decrease or even fully eliminate some of the presented registration issues encountered during the reconstruction of Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow.

The data acquisition system is a vital component in the high-energy physics experi-ment. To reduce redundant developments and allow for a fast setup under changing conditions, D-Matrix has been developed as an integrative solution in digital signal domain, including the hardware infrastructure and the data handling logical system. Its philosophy is to abstract different tasks in the data processing and encapsulate them as reusable modules with standard inter-module connectors. Furthermore, D-Matrix builds a unified model to integrate software and hardware design so that the system can be built from a global view. D-Matrix will be used in ion cooler-storage-ring external-target experiments. It aims at the research of phase structure of cold and high baryon density nuclear matter and the equation of states of cold asymmetric nuclear matter at supra-saturation densities. This DAQ can also be used in other high-energy physics experiments with little modifications. This paper presents the architecture and some details of the D-Matrix.

X-ray micro radiography with the hybrid pixel detectors provides versatile tool for the object inspection in various fields of science. It has proven itself especially suitable for the samples with low intrinsic attenuation contrast (e.g. soft tissue in biology, plastics in material sciences, thin paint layers in cultural heritage, etc.). The limited size of single Medipix type detector (1.96 cm(2)) was recently overcome by the construction of large area detectors WidePIX assembled of Timepix chips equipped with edgeless silicon sensors. The largest already built device consists of 100 chips and provides fully sensitive area of 14.3 x 14.3 cm(2) without any physical gaps between sensors. The pixel resolution of this device is 2560 x 2560 pixels (6.5 Mpix). The unique modular detector layout requires special processing of acquired data to avoid occurring image distortions. It is necessary to use several geometric compensations after standard corrections methods typical for this type of pixel detectors (i.e. flat-field, beam hardening correction). The proposed geometric compensations cover both concept features and particular detector assembly misalignment of individual chip rows of large area detectors based on Timepix assemblies. The former deals with larger border pixels in individual edgeless sensors and their behaviour while the latter grapple with shifts, tilts and steps between detector rows. The real position of all pixels is defined in Cartesian coordinate system and together with non-binary reliability mask it is used for the final image interpolation. The results of geometric corrections for test wire phantoms and paleo botanic material are presented in this article.

The paper presents results of numerical modelling for the ITER Divertor Neutron Flux Monitor (DNFM) detector modules life time activation. In particular, the rigorous-2-step (R2S) computational methodology was implemented. In addition to MCNP and FISPACT codes the special integration framework MCKIT was applied. The MCKIT provides models preparation and data processing tools. To provide appropriate performance we replaced direct FISPACT inventory calculations with the superposition method described below. The activation characteristics (DPA, contact dose, etc.) were obtained and compared with our results for the previous DNFM design.

We demonstrate three-dimensional track reconstruction of electrons in a low pressure (50 Torr) optical TPC consisting of two glass GEMs with an ITO strip readout in CF4 and CF4/Ar mixtures. The reconstructed tracks show a variety of event topologies, including short tracks from photoelectrons induced by Fe-55 5.9 keV X-rays and long tracks from gamma ray interactions and beta decays. Algorithms for event identification and track ridge detection are discussed as well as multiple methods for integrating information from the camera image and ITO waveforms with the goal of full 3D reconstruction of the track.

We present a newly developed modular and multiplatform acquisition and control package dedicated for high performance Timepix3 pixel detector. The software package was originally developed for operation at ATLAS experiment. Afterwards, it was further extended as an independent package for general purpose measurements and online visualization with Timepix3. Timepix3 detector is a semiconductor detector of 256 x 256 square pixels providing information about energy and time of arrival with time resolution less than 2 ns, which generate a high amount of data to be processed in real time with the data acquisition package. The processed data stream from the detector can be stored on a hard drive and also displayed online using graphical interface with capability to control several number of acquisitions and display measured data using variable modules. Moreover, due to the architecture it can be further extended using external libraries working independently on the software. The architecture of the acquisition package enables online processing and visualization and it is designed as cross-compatible software (supporting Windows, Linux, MacOS, etc.). All peaks in data transmission can be further balanced by several buffers in the pipelined architecture. The size of buffers is configurable and allows scalable tuning according to the available resources. The pipelined architecture exploits all advantages of multithreading.

In most laboratory setups in plasma physics, including magnetic-confinement experiments for fusion research, laser-based Thomson scattering allows for absolutely calibrated density measurements without input from other diagnostics and with high spatial resolution. A common issue is the alignment stability of either the laser beam or the observation optics. Frequent recalibrations are typically required. This is a challenge in particular for larger fusion experiments;while beam paths tend to get longer, the access for alignment and calibration gets more restricted. Therefore, simple, fast and robust calibration methods are required. A novel calibration technique has been developed at W7-X to account for alignment variations in the calibration procedure. This will decrease the pulse-to-pulse variations significantly and allow for a longer time duration before a recalibration becomes necessary. By monitoring the beam position accurately, it could be shown that misalignment leads to deterministic and reproducible changes in the measured density. The introduced density errors can be corrected for by monitoring the laser beam for every individual laser pulse. In the last experimental campaign, this has been done retrospectively by introducing parallel shifts to the laser beam path in order to show the feasibility of this method. It could be demonstrated that the impact of introduced shifts on the electron density can be successfully corrected for. For future campaigns, the beam alignment will intentionally be varied during the absolute calibration in order to cover the full range of expected beam positions. During the actual experiments, the beam positions will be monitored likewise and each density profile will be evaluated with the most suitable calibration factor. While probably not needed for W7-X, vibrations of the observation optics could be included in the same way.
