Noise removal in an image is important in image processing because noise can bring a great deal amount of problems such as degraded the quality image and loss of crucial information in image. Therefore, image filtering technique has been introduced to overcome the problems. One of the common noises in image is Salt and Pepper noise. A lot of studies have been conducted by researchers to remove this noise efficiently. However, most of the studies have difficulties in removing this noise especially at high density. Therefore, this research is conducted to improve image filtering technique and preserve the originality of the pixel. The proposed technique is developed based on decision based algorithm and the performance is compared with Median Filter, Hybrid Median Filter, Adaptive Median Filter and Ben Filter. Three images are used which are the lead frame, fruit and baboon images and the metric of comparison is determined by using Mean Square Error method. The result of this study has shown that the proposed filter can remove Salt and Pepper noise efficiently at different density and restored the originality of the pixel.

Removal of high density salt and pepper noise is an interesting field of research. However, most previous approaches do not lead to good results. If the density of noise increases rapidly, the quality of the image tremendously decreases and the restoration of those images is a difficult task. This paper proposes an optimal method to suppress the noise with high density properly based on a nonlinear filter and decision-based approach. We assume a 3x3 fix window to scan the image from top-left to bottom-right of the image pixel by pixel. This size of window guarantees the image saving with more details and avoiding the image blurring. There are two steps, detection of the corrupted pixels and then restoration. Detection is provided by using statistical analysis in each window, then the appropriate replacement for the noisy pixel is conducted from given values inside the current window or adjacent reconstructed pixels based on mean calculation and also, for very high density of noise which density of noise is bigger than %80, the reconstruction is based on a recursive approach. Experimental results on some benchmark images and video clips show that this method is a successful algorithm for suppression of salt and pepper noise with high density;besides, they show that the computational complexity and time consuming are reasonable.

In many image and video processing algorithms, pre-processing filters are the first and most important step. These filters reduce the noise present in the images, preserving the required information depending on the action performed. Due to increasing demands for real time processing systems, the traditional software solutions cannot be chosen. In this paper, we are introducing a new hardware architecture for image processing filters, which are optimized to increase the speed of processing, which is vital for real time systems. The decision based algorithm used for optimizing the median filter helps in avoiding corruption of original pixels and the hardware optimization used for the Gaussian filter reduces the required computations, making it faster. The proposed architecture is simulated in ModelSim and the simulation results are presented.

Salt and Pepper Noise is very common during transmission of images through a noisy channel or due to impairment in camera sensor module. For noise removal, methods have been proposed in literature, with two stage cascade various configuration. These methods, can remove low density impulse noise, are not suited for high density noise in terms of visible performance. We propose an efficient method for removal of high as well as low density impulse noise. Our approach is based on novel extension over iterated conditional modes (ICM). It is cascade configuration of two stages - noise detection and noise removal. Noise detection process is a combination of iterative decision based approach, while noise removal process is based on iterative noisy pixel estimation. Using improvised approach, up to 95% corrupted image have been recovered with good results, while 98% corrupted image have been recovered with quite satisfactory results. To benchmark the image quality, we have considered various metrics like PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), MSE (Mean Square Error) and SSIM (Structure Similarity Index Measure).

In today's era, almost all information is transmitted in the form of digital image or video. But after transmission, the obtained image is often corrupted with noise. Hence, we have to recover the originality of image by removing noise and then enhanced it for a specific application. Here, we proposed two hybridization method for removing impulse noise and get the restored image. In first method, we hybridized decision based algorithm with 2D discrete wavelet transforms. In second, hybridization of decision based algorithm with an adaptive wiener filter is proposed to get the restored image. The restored image is then processed by an enhancement technique. In the proposed color image enhancement, the restored color image is converted into an HSV color image. Later, luminance intensity of low frequency component of value (V) component is enhanced. It is then followed by contrast enhancement technique, resulted in modified V component. The modified V component is combined with Hue (H) and Saturation (S) and converted back into enhanced RGB image. Experimental results prettify the images which are captured at low-light and non-uniform lighting condition as in several standard images as well as in real time image.

Hence, we have to recover the original image by removing noise of the image without loss of data. Here, we proposed two hybridization methods, to yield better restoration of impulse noise images. The first proposed algorithm has hybridization of decision based algorithm along with 2D discrete wavelet transform. In second, hybridization of decision based algorithm with Adaptive Wiener Filter. Experimental results in Figs. 3-6 shows that proposed algorithm 1 outperform in terms of visual quality till 80% of noise density. Proposed algorithm 2 also performs excellent in term of visual quality, but within noise density ranges from 70% to 90%. Even at 95% noise density, proposed algorithm 2 gives an improvement in PSNR value from 5.29 dB to 18.98 dB. Mean Absolute Error, Mean Square Error, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio and Image Enhancement Factor are calculated and the comparative study is made between Standard Median Filter, Cascaded decision based algorithm proposed in(10), and proposed algorithm. In this study a novel algorithm is proposed for image denoising using Modified Adaptive Median Filter (MAMF) on digital images. The proposed algorithm replaces the noisy pixel by trimmed median value when other pixel values, 0's and 255's are present in the selected window and when all the pixel values are 0's and 255's hence the noise pixel is replaced by mean value of all the elements present in the selected window. This proposed algorithm shows better results than the Standard Median Filter (SMF), decision based algorithm (DBA). Different grayscale and color images are tested by using the proposed algorithm and found to produce better Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2015.
