This paper proposes a novel method to enhance channel efficiency by exploiting the error feature of a transmission channel using low-density parity-check (LDPC) code. The code is reduced by moving several parity to message data as fake errors. Simulation results show that the trimmed code can be recovered until seven percent trimming for 1/2 rate LDPC code.

To improve the performance of high-density flash memories, several circuit technologies have been developed. A word-line boost and clamp scheme realizes low supply voltage read operations. A flash programming scheme utilizing Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) tunneling for programming before erasure and a negative gate biased erasing scheme accomplish low-power, high-speed, and 5-V-only erase operations. The chip size penalty is estimated to be only 3% for the 16-Mb flash memories.

Quasi cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC) codes consisting of circulant permutation matrices (CPM-QC-LDPC) are one of the most attractive types of LDPC codes due to their many advantages. In this paper, we mainly do some research on CPM-QC-LDPC codes. We first propose a two-stage decoding scheme mainly based on parity check matrix transform (MT), which can efficiently improve the bit error rate performance. To optimize the tradeoff between hardware implementation complexity and decoding performance, an improved method that combines our proposed MT scheme with the existing CPM-RID decoding scheme is presented. An experiment shows that both schemes can improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Finally, we show that the MT decoding mechanism can be applied to other types of LDPC codes. We apply the MT scheme to random LDPC codes and show that it can efficiently lower the error floor.

Information transmission among biological neurons is carried out by a complex series of spike signals. The input inter-spike arrival times at a neuron are believed to carry information which the neurons utilize to carry out a task. In this paper, a new scheme which utilizes the input inter-spike intervals (ISI) for decoding an input spike train is proposed. A spike train consists of a sequence on input spikes with various interspike times. This decoding scheme can also be used for neurons which have multiple synaptic inputs but for which each synapse receives a single spike within one input time window. The ISI decoding neural network requires only a few neurons. Example applications show the usefulness of the decoding scheme.

This paper proposes a random interleaver based successive decoding scheme with a small number of levels for channels with unknown and time-varying states. For the receivers with separate estimation and decoding at each level, the achievable information rates are used to measure the system performance. On the other hand, if iterative schemes are allowed, the system performance is analyzed by the extrinsic information transfer chart. The random interleaver is then optimized to improve these performance measures. Numerical results demonstrate that the optimized random interleaver has significant performance gain over the traditional rectangular interleaver.

This paper proposes a new form of real-valued representation and an improved decoding scheme for Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC) 3.0 multiple-input multiple-output (NIIMO). The proposed representation of ATSC 3.0 MIMO is easy to use various suboptimal decoding schemes. In addition, a successive interference cancellation (SIC) and an improved decoding scheme based on block cancellation using the new form of the real-valued representation and QR decomposition arc proposed. The SIC scheme can significantly reduce the computational complexity by using a hard decision compared to a maximum-likelihood decision rule. The proposed improved decoding scheme considers N candidate symbols instead of the hard decision for the SIC scheme. Therefore, the improved performance can be obtained with slightly increased computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed decoding scheme outperforms a zero-forcing and SIC schemes based on the real-valued representation under fixed and mobile channels.

Reservoir computing (RC) is attracting widespread attention in several signal processing domains owing to its nonlinear stateful computation. It deals particularly well with time-series prediction tasks and reduces training complexity over recurrent neural networks. It is also suitable for hardware implementation whereby device physics are utilized in performing data processing. In this paper, the RC concept is applied to modeling a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system. Due to the harsh propagation environment, the transmitted signal undergoes severe distortion that must be compensated for at the receiver. The nonlinear distortion introduced by the power amplifier at the transmitter further complicates this process. An effective channel estimation scheme is therefore required. In this paper, we introduce a MIMO-OFDM channel estimation scheme utilizing Echo State Network (ESN). Echo State Networks are powerful recurrent neural networks that can predict time-series very well. They acts as a black-box for system modeling purposes and models nonlinear dynamic systems efficiently. Simulation results for the bit error rate of the nonlinear MIMO-OFDM system show that the introduced channel estimator outperforms commonly used channel estimation schemes.

An OSE-less [Oxide-definition Space Effect less] twin bits ROM cell is proposed. A reduced layout proximity dependence effect in ROM array is proposed using an OSE-less twin bits ROM cell. A Two-Step decoding circuitry scheme suitable for either single-end or differential sensing is invented to read out twin bits ROM data. This work improves access time by 30% and reduces Vccmin by 190mV with TSMC 28nm Low Power process.

Orthogonally multiplexed Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OQAM) with Filter-Bank-based MultiCarrier modulation (FBMC) is a multicarrier modulation scheme that can be considered an alternative to the conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) for transmission over multipath fading channels. However, as OQAM-based FBMC is based on real orthogonality, transmission over a complex-valued channel makes the decoding process more challenging compared to CP-OFDM case. Moreover, if we apply Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) techniques to OQAM-based FBMC, the decoding schemes are different from the ones used in CP-OFDM. In this paper, we consider the combination of OQAM-based FBMC with single-delay Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC). We extend the decoding process presented earlier in the case of N(t) = 2 transmit antennas to greater values of N(t). Then, for N(t) >= 2, we make an analysis of the theoretical and simulation performance of ML and Viterbi decoding. Finally, to improve the performance of this method, we suggest an iterative decoding method. We show that the OQAM-based FBMC iterative decoding scheme can slightly outperform CP-OFDM.
