We consider the compressive sensing of a sparse or compressible signal x E R~(M). We explicitly construct a class of measurement matrices, referred to as the low density frames, and develop decoding algorithms that produce an accurate estimate x even in the presence of additive noise. Low density frames are sparse matrices and have small storage requirements. Our decoding algorithms for these frames can be implemented in O(Md_(v)d_(c)) complexity, where d_(c) and d_(v) are the row and column weight of the frame respectively. Simulation results are provided, demonstrating that our approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art recovery algorithms for numerous cases of interest.

The belief propagation (BP) decoding algorithm not only is an alternative to the successive cancelation (SC) decoders of polar codes, but also provides soft outputs that are necessary for joint detection and decoding. The BP decoders with the flooding schedule achieve high throughput with excessive hardware cost especially when the block length is large. The soft-cancelation (SCAN) decoders for polar codes have reduced memory complexity compared to the BP decoders based on the flooding schedule. The simplified SC aided reduced complexity soft-cancelation (S-RCSC) decoders further reduce the computational and memory complexity of the SCAN decoders at the cost of negligible error performance degradation. Both the SCAN and S-RCSC decoders have limited throughput due to their serial decoding schedules. In this paper, we first propose an improved S-RCSC (IS-RCSC) decoding algorithm and then present a high throughput decoder architecture based on our IS-RCSC algorithm. Our IS-RCSC decoding algorithm performs the message passing on a binary tree representation of a polar code. Compared to the S-RCSC decoding algorithm, our IS-RCSC decoding algorithm accelerates the computing of the returned soft messages when certain types of nodes are activated. The corresponding hardware architecture of our IS-RCSC decoder is also proposed. In terms of area efficiency, the hardware implementation results demonstrate that our IS-RCSC decoders are 19% to 43% better than decoders in the literature.

A highly efficient decoding algorithm for the REMOS (Reverberation MOdeling for Speech recognition) concept for distant-talking speech recognition as proposed in [1] is suggested to reduce the computational complexity by about two orders of magnitude and thereby allowing for first real-time implementations. REMOS is based on a combined acoustic model consisting of a conventional hidden Markov model (HMM), modeling the clean speech, and a reverberation model. During recognition, the most likely clean-speech and reverberant contributions are estimated by solving an inner optimization problem for logarithmic melspectral (log-melspec) features. In this paper, two approximation techniques for the inner optimization problem are derived. Connected digit recognition experiments confirm that the computational complexity is significantly reduced. Ensuring that the global optima of the inner optimization problem are found, the decoding algorithm based on the proposed approximations even increases the recognition accuracy relative to interior point optimization techniques.

It is widely recognized that emerging hardware technologies will be inherently unreliable. In this paper, we study the performance of finite-alphabet iterative decoders when implemented on noisy hardware built out of unreliable components. We derive a recursive expression for the error probability in terms of both the transmission noise and processing errors. We allow different components of the decoding algorithm associated with certain computational units (i.e., bit and check nodes of varying degrees in the underlying graph) to be implemented using a collection of processors with varying levels of processing error rates. Performance analysis and optimal resource allocation of a noisy Gallager E decoder is presented as an application example of our general derivation. Simulations demonstrate that the implementation of a noisy iterative decoder according to the proposed analysis-guided optimal resource allocation outperforms implementations based on uninformed resource allocation under the common resource budget.

In the area of machine translation (MT) system combination, previous work on generating input hypotheses has focused on varying a core aspect of the MT system, such as the decoding algorithm or alignment algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method for generating diverse hypotheses from a single MT system using traits. These traits are simple properties of the MT output such as "average output length" and "average rule length." Our method is designed to select hypotheses which vary in trait value but do not significantly degrade in BLEU score. These hypotheses can be combined using standard system combination techniques to produce a 1.2-1.5 BLEU gain on the Arabic-English NIST MT06/MT08 translation task.

Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes over GF(2m) show significantly higher performances than binary LDPC codes. However, the hardware complexity and area of the decoder are largely increasing. In this paper, putting the code and decoder design together to consider, we propose a FPGA semi-parallel implementation of extended min-sum (EMS) decoding algorithm for quasi-cyclic low density parity check (QC-LDPC) codes over GF (2m). According to the regularity of their parity check matrices, QC-LDPC codes can facilitate efficient high-speed parallel decoding. The EMS decoding algorithm greatly reduces the computational complexity of processing units, check node unit (CNU). In addition, the updating calculation of the check node unit and variable node unit (VNU) can be overlapped to decrease the time latency and increase the throughput. Based on these architectures, the (486,972) QC-LDPC code over GF (4) decoder is implemented on Xilinx field programmable gate array (FPGA) Virtex4 XC4VLX160. The result shows that the maximum clock frequency is 131.411MHz and the throughput is 50Mb/s for the EMS decoder.

The situation resulted from the solution of Shannon problem by optimization theory of error-correcting coding in the applied studies of coding theory is analyzed. Unresolved problems of classical (algebraic) theory are discussed. The results for main clusters of decoding algorithms built on the basis of Optimization Theory (OT) are considered. Further tasks for OT development are given, the methods for their solution are offered. Broad possibilities shown by new versions of Viterbi algorithm are mentioned. Advantages of main OT paradigms including the advantages of symbolic codes and divergent coding are shown. A special group of decoding algorithms with direct metrics control (DDMC) is singled out. The main ways to develop coding theory for the coming years and for the future are listed.

This paper aims to the improve the data rate for the visible light communication system using LED array and high-speed camera. Previously, we have proposed the decoding algorithm using inverted signals for driving situation. However, using this method the data rate become a half, because we transmit original signals and inverted signals alternately for LED array tracking. In this paper, we propose the data rate improving method for overlay coding which is coding method that overlay two data which are called as the long range data and the short range data. In the proposed method, for the long range data, we transmit original signals and inverted signals alternately. On the other hand, for the short range data, we transmit only original signals while we transmit inverted signals of long range data. We confirm that we can improve data rate as compared with the previous method.

Linear programming (LP) decoding for low density parity check (LDPC) codes proposed by Feldman et al. has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Despite having theoretical guarantees in some regimes, at low SNRs LP decoding is observed to have worse error performance than belief propagation (BP) decoding. In this paper, we present a novel decoding algorithm obtained by trying to solve a non-convex optimization problem using the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). This non-convex problem is constructed by adding an l_1 penalty term to the LP decoding objective. The goal of the penalty term is to make "pseudocodewords", which are the non-integer vertices of the LP relaxation to which the LP decoder fails, more costly. We name this the "l_1 penalized decoder". We also develop a reweighted LP decoding algorithm base on this l_1 penalized objective. We show that this reweighted LP has an improved theoretical recovery threshold compared to the original LP. In addition, simulations show that, in comparison to LP decoding, these two decoders both achieve significantly lower error rates and are not observed to have an "error floor". In particular, the l_1 penalized decoder meets or outperforms the BP decoder at all SNRs.
