Concerning computer aided analysis of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Pulse Diagnosis, the recognition effect of wrist pulse signals is undesirable because of its morphology complexity and the features ambiguity. To solve the problem, we propose a new methodology based on classifier using Shannon Energy Envelope, Hilbert Transform (SEEHT) and Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN). In this paper, we demonstrate the pulse wave extractor: SEEHT, which is better than traditional one in case of wider, small pulse wave or sudden changes in wave amplitude. Then DCNN is trained by adding noise to increase the sample size for excavating potential features. The proposed methodology is validated using data from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Various experimental results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms other well-known methods in case of feature ambiguity.

This paper develops a voltage/frequency regulation scheme for an islanded distributed energy resource (DER) unit. The DER can be either a distributed storage (DS) unit or a dispatchable distributed generation (DG) unit. The DER unit is represented by a (time-varying) DC voltage source that is electronically interfaced to an aggregate of loads. The electronic interface consists of a voltage-sourced converter (VSC) and an LC filter. First, a dynamic model is developed for the DER unit and the loads. Then, based on the dynamic model, a control scheme is designed to regulate the voltage and frequency of the loads. To mitigate the impact of the loads configurations and dynamic properties on the stability and performance of the closed-loop system, a feed-forward compensation has been incorporated into the design. Performance of the DER unit in conjunction with the voltage/frequency controller is evaluated based on digital time-domain simulation studies in the PSCAD/EMTDC software environment. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the developed control strategy and feed-forward compensation technique.

Multi-agent system (MAS) is one of the most exciting and the fastest growing domains in agent oriented technology which deals with modeling of autonomous decision making entities. This paper presents an application of MAS for distributed energy resource (DER) management in a MicroGrid. MicroGrid can be defined as low voltage distributed power networks comprising various distributed generators (DG), storage and controllable loads, which can be operated as interconnected or as islands from the main power grid. By representing each element in MicroGrid as an autonomous intelligent agent, multi agent modeling of a MicroGrid is designed and implemented. JADE framework is proposed for the modeling and reliability of the MicroGrid is confirmed with PowerWorld Simulator. Further, the FIPA contract net coordination between the agents is demonstrated through software simulation. As a result, this paper provides a MicroGrid modeling which has the necessary communication and coordination structure to create a scalable system. The optimized MicroGrid management and operations can be developed on it in future.

Parsers are pervasive software basic blocks: as soon as a program needs to communicate with another program or to read a file, a parser is involved. However, writing robust parsers can be difficult, as is revealed by the amount of bugs and vulnerabilities related to programming errors in parsers. It is especially true for network analysis tools, which led the network and protocols laboratory of the French Network and Information Security Agency (ANSSI) to write custom tools. One of them, Parsifal, is a generic framework to describe parsers in OCaml, and gave us some insight into binary formats and parsers. After describing our tool, this article presents some use cases and lessons we learned about format complexity, parser robustness and the role the language used played.

This paper describes how inverters can stabilize the grid frequency in an interconnected system. The grid frequency is currently mainly controlled by synchronous generators. With the further increase of distributed generation, inverters need to provide more grid support services. In particular, instantaneous frequency control is still exclusively provided by generators, though grid-forming inverters are already state of the art for off-grid applications and can be adapted to substitute synchronous generators. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of synchronous generators is analyzed and a control algorithm for inverters is presented which emulates the principle behavior of synchronous machines and which is able to support inertia to the grid and reduces frequency gradients. Several tests based on simulations and laboratory measurements demonstrate that inverters with adequate control algorithms are able to maintain or even improve the dynamic frequency stability.

Smart Grid Technology, a reasonable move in modern Power System, assures coveted resiliency, consistency, and the utmost efficiency of the entire Grid System utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and ocean energy by integrating on-site generation strategies. Apart from its environmental aspect, the renewable energy based smart grid technology has a broad scope of research, application, and commerce. In this paper, an inclusive review is outlined on smart grid and its prospect in imminent future. Besides the conventional grid system, the architecture, function, pros, cons, and the environmental aspect of the smart grid technology are illustrated to describe this modern contrivance. After that, the growth and the market scenario of the renewable are shown for the different regions of the world. For upcoming smart grid information and communication architectures, security is an indispensable requirement in order to ensure security of supply, to prevent damages to the electricity supply, loss or manipulation of personal or accounting information, etc. This must be taken into account throughout all developmental phases when creating such a framework, i.e., from the design phase on. Therefore, a Security-by-Design (SbD) approach has to be used which is able to address all potential harms to the envisioned system. Especially through the integration of distributed energy resources, new stakeholders (who may have low awareness of potential security risks) have to be considered, e.g., private households with photovoltaic/battery systems. Through the usage of the Internet for the exchange of sensitive data, intrusions from malicious attackers are facilitated. To cope with this, distributed energy resources have to include a comprehensive security subsystem. In this paper, an exemplary solution for the consideration of these issues in highly distributed infrastructures is given.

Microgrids (MG) with renewable energy resources have shown competitive operational advantages for smart grid integration. In the wake of events such as the July 2012 India blackout, recent interest has been directed to the deployment of MGs in grid-independent (islanded) settings. In this paper we develop an autonomous distributed framework for cooperation amongst a set of grid-independent microgrids to improve the overall microgrid network (MGN) reliability. We further develop an enhanced distributed algorithm to support the proposed system. This work adopts a game theoretic approach via coalition formation games (CFG) formulation for static and dynamic MGNs. We consider MGNs with variable renewable distributed energy resources (DER) penetration levels and variable wind generation percentage of the total renewable generation mix. Main results show cooperation gains for cooperative MGN, study the effects of rate policies, and show how the proposed system performs under different renewable DER penetration levels and wind generation percentages.

The absorption currents in the discharge mode of acrylic-acid (AA)-doped solution-grown polystyrene (PS) films, prepolarized at 358 K with different fields, have been analyzed in the temperature range 313-358 K. Space charge due to trapping of injected charge carriers in energetically distributed traps is considered to account for the observed currents. Two relaxation peaks centered at 328 K and approximately at 348 K, respectively have been observed in isochronal current thermograms.< >

Distributed algorithms and multi-agent systems have been studied in Smart Grid research for several years to address the problems arising from the integration of a substantial amount of distributed energy units. To change the role of these units from an uncontrolled feed-in behavior to actively contributing to system stability, efficient control system integration and scalability are important requirements for Smart Grid systems in the given domain. In this work, we present ISAAC, an energy unit aggregation and planning software based on the principles of controlled self-organization and regulated autonomy.
