This paper studies the control of the multilevel PWM rectifier-multilevel inverter permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) cascade. We present the field oriented speed control of the PMSM, and develop the control model of the three-level inverters by using the generating functions. We propose a new calculated strategy of the inverter which uses its control model. We show the problem of the middle point of the inverter input DC voltage source. A solution to this problem is to control this input DC voltage and then the potential of its middle point by a feedback control of the three-level PWM rectifier. Thus, we present a control loop of these three-level PWM rectifiers in order to control the input DC voltage of the inverters and the current in the network. This drive system finds applications in high power and high speed drive fields such as the electric traction.

The performance of orthogonal multicarrier M-ary spread spectrum multiple access (M-ary/SSMA) systems are analyzed under frequency selective fading and partial-band interference. Orthogonal multicarrier M-ary/SSMA systems are the M-ary spread spectrum (M-ary/SSMA) systems utilizing orthogonal multicarrier transmission scheme. In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance, the effect of time diversity techniques and the influence of partial-band interference are investigated. As a result, the BER performance of the orthogonal multicarrier M-ary/SSMA system is superior to the conventional multicarrier M-ary/SSMA system without time diversity scheme. Also, the time diversity scheme improves the BER performance against partial-band interference.

A project on topographic maps interpretation is being driven at I.G.N. (Institut Geographique National, France). The aim of this project is to provide a totally automatic interpretation with a call to operator on the only suspicious cases detected by the program. This paper presents an automatic system for the creation of a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) out of a scanned map. Our proposed method is based on the use of external elevation information and on a combined local/global strategy for quoting the portions of curve present on the map. To reduce the combinatory of the problem, and to accelerate the convergence, all the "trivial cases" of interruption are pretreated. After having quoted the portions of curve, a DTM is created by a classical interpolation method.

We presented a calculation of the total and partial decay widths of vibrational predissociation (VP) of the HeI2 molecule for low initial vibrational excitations from the lowest van der Waals (vdW) state with total angular momentum J = 0. A time-dependent golden rule wave-packet method was employed in our numerical calculations for the decay widths. The computed total decay widths, lifetimes, and rates of VP are in fairly good agreement with those extrapolated from the experimental data available. Predicted total decay widths as a function of initial vibrational levels exhibit a highly nonlinear behavior. These results demonstrate that a quantum mechanical decay mode for low vibrational excitation remains as well. The total propagation time needed in the time-dependent golden rule wave-packet calculations is much shorter than is the lifetime of the predissociation of HeI2. It is shown that the final-state interaction between the fragments is important for determining the final rotational-state distribution (partial decay width). We find that the major peak position in the final rotational-state distribution shifts to lower rotational energy levels with increase of the initial vibrational quantum number, which is evidently different from that for higher vibrational levels. This fact can be clearly explained by the dependence of the amount of kinetic energy released to the product degrees of freedom on the initial vibrational state. (C) 1997 John Wiley a Sons, Inc.

Based on the way time is expressed in natural language, as was studied in the linguistic part of our research, it is observed that time indications usually are rather approximative and situated within the context of the traditional hierarchical time unit system, thereby choosing the most appropriate level of detail. In this paper we present a model for temporal data which aims at being both as flexible and as general as possible. Flexibility is obtained by the use of fuzzy set theory and of granularities which brings the model very close to its natural language counterpart. Generality is achieved by the dynamic aspect of the granularity structure and by the support of spans, time points and intervals, absolute and relative time, aperiodic as well as periodic time elements.

The spatio-temporal phenomena in coupled map lattices (CML) are investigated. We propose time delayed Van der Pol oscillator as a unit lattice of CML, which is described with discrete time. This is the first attempt to construct CML with realizable circuits, as far as we know. Clusterization and the ways of collapse of clusters to spatio-temporal chaos are observed in this system.
