An analytical formula for selecting the feeding voltage and frequency in a TORUS-type nonslotted axial flux permanent magnet machine design

Axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motors are usually controlled by drive;therefore, in the design of these machines the feeding voltage and frequency are completely independent parameters. Undoubtedly, the values of these parameters have significant effects on the performance characteristics of the machine. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of these parameters on the efficiency of a double-sided TORUS-type nonslotted (TORUS NS) AFPM motor and propose a formula for selecting the optimal values of the feeding voltage and frequency at the beginning of the design process. To fulfill this goal, different machines with various speeds, powers, and feeding voltages are designed based on a proposed design algorithm. Then a formula for calculating machine efficiency is presented based on the frequency, number of pole pairs, output power, and feeding voltage of the machine. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed formula, several fabricated machines with different powers and speeds are selected as case studies. The efficiency of these machines is calculated using the proposed formula and is measured in the laboratory. Comparing the results confirms the excellent accuracy of the proposed formula.

This study presents data-driven super-twisting-like smooth observer design for systems of dimension more than one. The major advantage of the proposed observers is finite-time convergence of the estimation error to zero and smoothness of the observer trajectory. This study concludes with numerical simulations illustrating performance of the designed algorithms.

Robust decoupled system design of uncertain multivariable feedback systems

This paper presents a design algorithm of involving robust decoupled control of uncertain multivariable feedback systems. Two-degree-of-freedom system structure is adopted to handle the quantitative robustness and decoupled performance requirements. Quantitative feedback theory is applied for loop compensator design to achieve quantitative robustness. A decoupled model matching approach is employed for prefilter design to achieve input-output decoupling performance Thus, the design method of two-degree-of-freedom compensators is proposed to achieve decoupled system control with quantitative robust performance. Since internal stability is satisfied this design method performs appropriately for any stable or unstable, minimum or nonminimum phase system. The AFTI/F-16 flight control system is considered as the design example to illustrate the design algorithm.

A method based on a bounded real lemma is presented in the form of sufficient conditions for designing observer-based proper reduced-order H(infinity) compensators. The proposed compensators are shown to include the strictly proper full-order central H(infinity) compensators as a special class. A compensator design algorithm is included to illustrate the use of the proposed compensator design equations.

Removal of the points that do not support an E-optimal experimental design

We propose a method for removing design points that cannot support any E-optimal experimental design of a linear regression model with uncorrelated observations. The proposed method can be used to reduce the size of some large E-optimal design problems such that they can be efficiently solved by semidefinite programming. This paper complements the results of Pronzato [Pronzato, L., 2013. A delimitation of the support of optimal designs for Kiefer's phi(p)-class of criteria. A novel model-based approach to design packed beds for CO2 absorption with NH3 is proposed and experimentally validated. The two-film theory is adopted to model gas/liquid mass transfer while the thermodynamic equilibrium among ion species is considered in the liquid. Such strategy allows to simulate both CO2 absorption and NH3 evaporation, that represent the most important aspects to improve capture efficiency and process costeffectiveness. The resulting ODEs system is a two boundary-value problem which is solved by means of the shooting method. The model is then exploited to develop a new algorithm that, based on the adopted operating conditions, evaluates the packed bed height as a function of the desired capture efficiency. The height calculated for different combinations of operating conditions is successfully compared with the real height of the experimental column, thus confirming the reliability of the developed tool which can be run with very low computational loads.

More and more attention is paid to computer aided automobile body conceptual design field in recent years. This paper presents a novel method which applies evolutionary design to the automobile body conceptual design system. By using some evolutionary design algorithm like genetic algorithm, the method helps,designers to produce innovative design ideas and interesting results in the stage of automobile body conceptual design. The case study demonstrates the advantages of the proposed method.

Optimum design and manufacturing of the lifting cylindrical electromagnets considering magnetic, thermal, and mechanical limitations

In this article, a cylindrical electromagnet is designed and manufacture to lift a load with desired weight and dimensions. The design method is based on magnetic, thermal and mechanical equations. For this purpose, the magnetic and thermal limitations of the electromagnet are considered and its equivalent circuits are introduced. Also, to maintain the balance of the load, the dimensions of the electromagnet have been optimized. To save manufacturing costs, special attention has been paid to reducing the weight of the electromagnet. Also by using the multi-coil technique, the life span of the coil is increased and thus the maintenance costs are reduced. ANSYS and COMSOL software were used for the magnetic and thermal simulation of the electromagnet, and MATLAB was used to analyze the equivalent circuits and implement the design algorithm. To determine the accuracy and validity of the proposed method, a cylindrical electromagnet for safe lifting of loads with a maximum weight of 3200 (kg) and specific dimensions was designed and a laboratory prototype was made. The lifting force and temperature of the electromagnet were measured and compared with the simulation results and with those obtained from the analysis of its equivalent circuits. In both magnetic and thermal modes, the difference between the results was less than 4%, which indicates the good accuracy of the design. Compared to the available electromagnets in the market, the designed electromagnet is lighter and cheaper. Also, it has lower maintenance cost and longer uptime. These are its benefits for marketing.

High-performance mechatronics have specifications which are difficult to achieve when the mechanical plant is non-minimum phase and a low-order controller is used. In this paper, an integrated servo-mechanical design algorithm is proposed for systematic finite frequency redesign of a mechanical plant using the generalized Kalman-Yakubovic-Popov Lemma. The synthesis of a minimum phase plant is carried out based on a predesigned low-order controller, positive realness constraints, and performance specifications of the overall control system. Our simulation results using the proposed algorithm achieve a high-bandwidth control system with disturbance attenuation capabilities at the phase-stabilized resonant modes of the plant with the low-order controller.

The main purpose of the work presented in this paper is to obtain a simple and reliable analytical method for the pre-design of surface permanent magnet synchronous generators. With this aim in mind, a design algorithm based on several methods from the bibliography has been developed and programmed. The results from this pre-design have been contrasted by Finite Element Method models and also by testing a built-in permanent magnet synchronous generator prototype. The rotor of this prototype has been designing to get and skewed rotor in order to check data between skewed and nom skewed rotor position.
