In the present context, solid waste management from the house level is necessary and useful for reducing the load on the municipal dumpsite. Household composting is the best option to segregate and treat the organic waste at house level itself. For this, a uniquely designed shaft for household composter is developed and demonstrated along with processing bin, maturation bin, processing shaft, holding stand and leachate collection system. The processing shaft provides the four necessary actions, namely grinding, churning, turning and aeration in the composter while rotating. During the process of composting, it is found that, after every scheduled rotation of the shaft, the temperature increases inside the material. Because of grinding action of the shaft, the particle size of the final compost is 91.2% material passing from 4 mm sieve. The physical and chemical properties with heavy metals of the final compost, compliance the compost standard as per Indian guideline. The composter is compact, portable, mobile, detachable and cost effective for household organic waste.

Large-scale design and development projects involve working with immature information and transferring it between colleagues, departments and suppliers. Information's maturity is an important consideration for many decisions, such as how much effort to dedicate to tasks given the maturities of their inputs, how much to overlap project phases given the maturity of information available for early release, and how much allowance to give for possible changes to preliminary information. An understanding of information maturity could also help to interpret and learn from archived project information. However, there are multiple perspectives on the meaning of information maturity and an agreed understanding of its aspects has not yet emerged. This article contributes an integrating taxonomy that defines and delineates 18 distinct aspects of information maturity in the design and development context. The new taxonomy integrates concepts from literature, clarifies that information can mature along numerous dimensions during design and development, and may inform future research into preliminary information management in large-scale projects.

A century ago, the groundbreaking concept of the magic bullet was given by Paul Ehrlich. Since then, this concept has been extensively explored in various forms to date. The concept of multivalency is among such advancements of the magic bullet concept. Biologically, the concept of multivalency plays a critical role in significantly huge numbers of biochemical interactions. This concept is the sole reason behind the higher affinity of biological molecules like viruses to more selectively target the host cell surface receptors. Multivalent nanoconstructs are a promising approach for drug delivery by the active targeting principle. designing and developing effective and target-specific multivalent drug delivery nanoconstructs, on the other hand, remain a challenge. The underlying reason for this is a lack of understanding of the crucial interactions between ligands and cell surface receptors, as well as the design of nanoconstructs. This review highlights the need for a better theoretical understanding of the multivalent effect of what happens to the receptor-ligand complex after it has been established. Furthermore, the critical parameters for designing and developing robust multivalent systems have been emphasized. We have also discussed current advances in the design and development of multivalent nanoconstructs for drug delivery. We believe that a thorough knowledge of theoretical concepts and experimental methodologies may transform a brilliant idea into clinical translation.

A smartphone-based crowd-sourced real-time surveillance platform (apple snail inspector) for the invasive snails: a design and development study

BackgroundThe large amphibious freshwater apple snail is an important invasive species in China, but there is currently no method available for their surveillance. The development and popularization of smartphones provide a new platform for research on surveillance technologies for the early detection and effective control of invasive *** ASI surveillance system was developed based on the infrastructure of the WeChat platform and Amap. The user can directly enter the game interface through the WeChat port on their mobile phone, and the system automatically obtains their location. The user can then report the location of apple snails. The administrator can audit the reported information, and all information can be exported to Microsoft Excel version 2016 for analysis. The map was generated by ArcGIS 10.2 and was used to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of apple snails in Jiangsu *** architecture of ASI consists of three parts: a mobile terminal, a server terminal and a desktop terminal. We published more than 10 tweets on the official WeChat account of the system to announce it to the public, and a total of 207 users in 2020 and 2021 correctly reported sightings of apple snails. We identified 550 apple snails breeding sites in 2020 and 2021, featuring ponds (81%), parks (17%) and farmland (2%). In addition, most of the locations contained snail eggs, and the reporting times mainly occurred between May and *** ASI is an effective surveillance system that can be used to identify the breeding locations of apple snails and provides the basis of prevention and control for its dispersal. Its successful development and operation provide new potential avenues for surveillance of other public health issues.

The applications of hydrogels in biomedical field has been since multiple decades. Discoveries in biology and chemistry render this platform endowed with much engineering potentials and growing continuously. Novel approaches in constructing these materials have led to the production of complex hybrid hydrogels systems that can incorporate both natural and synthetic polymers and other functional moieties for mediated cell response, tunable release kinetic profiles, thus they are used and research for diverse biomedical applications. Recent advancement in this field has established promising techniques for the development of biorelevant materials for construction of hybrid hydrogels with potential applications in the delivery of cancer therapeutics, drug discovery, and re-generative medicines. In this review, recent trends in advanced hybrid hydrogels systems incorporating nano/microstructures, their synthesis, and their potential applications in tissue engineering and anticancer drug delivery has been discussed. Examples of some new approaches including click reactions implementation, 3D printing, and photopatterning for the development of these materials has been briefly discussed. In addition, the application of biomolecules and motifs for desired outcomes, and tailoring of their transport and kinetic behavior for achieving desired outcomes in hybrid nanogels has also been reviewed.

An engine test facility, capable of being operated with different nozzles, has been developed. The shape of this component has evolved substantially, over the years, from seemingly simple circular geometries to very complex geometries designed to address different requirements. There are numerous test facilities that facilitate an extensive standalone component level testing of these components. However, such testing does not offer an insight into the effect these complex geometries will have on the performance of a gas turbine engine. This facility will serve as a demonstration for graduate and doctoral students, enhancing their understanding of engine performance. The core of the test facility is a single spool turbojet engine from AMT, Netherlands. The engine is instrumented with pressure and temperature measurements at every inter-component location. A conventional intake duct is designed, for measurement of air flow rate. The entire engine is mounted on a 6-axis force measurement device, for measurement of thrust during engine operations. Towards the rear of the engine, a straight duct is attached after the jet pipe, on which any new nozzle can be retrofitted to the engine. To address changes in operating conditions when using different nozzles, the engine is equipped with a suitably designed bleed duct, which is attached onto the jet pipe. The engine, successfully integrated with all the components, has been subjected to multiple tests at different power settings. The first test was done using the baseline engine, operated at various rotor speeds. The next test was done with a custom nozzle having an area ratio of 2, attached to the jet pipe. Owing to the successful design of the components, the engine performance was measured when operated with a smaller area nozzle.

Improved design, development and field investigation of the wheel-soil interaction measurement system under aircraft load

This paper proposed the method and model to solve the issue of wheel-soil interaction on the soil runway and attained the equipment for measuring wheel-soil interaction and structural response by improving the design. Furthermore, through field tests, the research results show the characteristics of the three-direction force of the wheel on the soil runway under different tire loads and tire pressures, and present the mechanical response law of the soil runway structure under different soil strengths. In particular, it is found that the rolling resistance and rolling resistance coefficient of the wheel on the soil runway. Finally, the validity of the field test results is verified. This research lays a critical foundation for field testing on the load of aircraft and the formulation of a sophisticated wheel-soil interaction model, which has significant prospects for the structural design, the evaluation of the performance and life of soil runways.
