This paper presents a new approach to the soft detection of spatial data streams in MIMO channels in slow fading channels. We focus on high spectral efficiency bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) MIMO OFDM system where, after serial to parallel conversion and per antenna coding, spatial data streams are simultaneously transmitted by using an antenna array. We propose a detection algorithm basing on the combination of linear and non linear detection techniques. The proposed algorithm orders the spatial streams as per V-BLAST ordering and then uses linear detectors as MMSE or zero forcing (ZF) to detect the streams which have seen good channel realizations and therefore enjoy higher signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs). These streams after being detected are subsequently stripped off leading to the max log MAP detection of the streams which have seen comparatively poor realizations of the channel and consequently have lower SNRs. Unlike maximum likelihood (ML) detection, whose complexity is huge due to the need for enumerating all possible combinations of the transmitted constellation points, the proposed method has low complexity. The algorithm has a fully parallel structure, suitable for the implementation in parallel hardware. Numerical examples illustrate its performance on slow fading 3 times 3 and 4 times 4 complex MIMO channels.

With the rapid dependency on the Internet for business, and the fast spread of powerful destructive DoS/DDoS attack tools, the detection and thwarting of these attacks is primordial for ISP, enterprises, hosting centers, etc. In this paper, we present the implementation of a new framework, for efficient detection and identification of flooding attacks over high speed links. To accomplish that, we apply multi-channel nonparametric CUSUM (MNP-CUSUM) over the shared counters in the proposed reversible sketch, in order to pinpoint flows with abrupt change via a new approach for sketch inversion. Shared counters are used to minimize the memory requirements and to identify the victim of flooding attacks. We apply our system at various real traces, some traces are provided by France Telecom (FT) within the framework of ANR-RNRT OSCAR project, other traces are collected in FT backbone network, during online experiments for testing and adjusting the proposed detection algorithms in this project. Our analysis results from real Internet traffic, and from online implementation over Endace DAG 3.6ET sniffing card, show that our proposed architecture is able to quickly detect various kinds of flooding attacks and to disclose culprit flows with a high level of accuracy.

We present an adaptive algorithm for collision detection between rigid and non-rigid polygonal objects by improving particle sensor-based method which is more efficient in handling deformation of objects than bounding volume hierarchies-based method which has to be updated its bounding representations frequently. However, a problem of particle sensor-based is, a number of particles on each object's surface when object is deformed and a reporting of many contact of exact collision on each object, are not well-defined and calculated. Moreover, it can be slow down in a large scene by checking the distances of every object. Therefore, this research presents an algorithm which solves all those problems by using the sweep and prune like algorithm to prune any noncolliding objects in the large scene instead of checking the distances of every object, using an idea of particle's emitter to determine an adaptive number of particle sensor when object is deformed, and using a power in stream computation of graphics processing unit (GPU) to report all contacts of exact collision in particle sensor's responsible area. A detailed description of this algorithm, a time complexity analysis and experiment results showing this algorithm can be conducted in real-time are include in this paper.

In a recent paper we have introduced and used a real fractional wavelet for the detection of the QRS complex in ECG signal. This fractional wavelet is the second derivative of the Cole-Cole distribution which is widely used in the modelling of dielectrics by a fractional power pole. This work presents a QRS detection scheme using a complex fractional wavelet function. The absolute value of this wavelet is the Cole-Cole distribution function. The method consists of using the real and the imaginary parts of the CWT along with the multiscale product to distinguish the R waves from the high P and T waves, the noise and the artefacts. The study of the proposed algorithm and the analysis of the results have been done using the first four-minutes of the 24 records of the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The R wave detection results have been compared to the annotation file accompanying each ECG signal. We have found that the proposed detection algorithm gives high accuracy.

Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas and Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) are very promising candidates for simultaneous utilize in 4G systems, since they attain robustness, high spectral efficiency, and high data rates in rich scattering environments. This paper proposes an efficient hybrid detection algorithm for downlink MC-CDMA system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The proposed algorithm combines Energy Spreading Transform (EST) technique and the iterative architecture pilot based Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) channel estimation as well as Modified Projection Approximation Subspace Tracking Deflation (MPASTD) method, so called Hybrid EST Iterative MMSE-MPASTD (HEIMM) algorithm. The HEIMM algorithm contributes steadfastly to an accurate system design and evaluation with full rate mode in a space-frequency format of extended multiple antennas method also in the framework of a practical MC-CDMA system. Beneath high order modulation, the simulation results are presented to exhibit an improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance with reduced-rank computational complexity that independent of different system loading.

This paper presents a new transient detection algorithm which uses the average absolute discrete group delay as a measure for the transient characteristic of sound. It shows that a bell-shaped window function performs a high-pass effect to the spectral coefficients, leading to a concentration of group delay values in the ¿-area for steady-state signals. This concentration is violated if a transient occurs. From this phenomenon, we derive a new transient detection method, improve it by a maximum order-filter, and show that it works well on percussive and tonal-percussive sounds.

detection of saliency regions in images is useful for object based image understanding and object localization. In our work, we investigate a saliency region detection algorithm based on the human visual attention (HVA) model. In the first phase, we use mutual information and probability-of-boundary (PoB) for color saliency and edge detection respectively to filter SURF (speeded up robust features) key feature points found from the image. For the second phase, bipartite feature matching is deployed for further keypoint selection. We perform the two-phase keypoint filtering iteratively and give selected keypoints different weights for their importance. The final trimmed image is a rectangle region which approximates the distribution of remaining keypoints. We conduct our experiments on Corel Photo Library and MIT-CSAIL Objects and Scenes Database and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

With the fast development of the public transportation and logistics, the automatic distress detection is necessary to save the time, cost and labor. This paper introduces a pavement distress automatic detection algorithm. Its main idea is based on the fact that the distress in the pavement can be modeled as the curve segments or curve segment networks. Three steps are necessary. First of all, the noise is suppressed based on the proposed pavement and noise models, then the potential line points are detected, and at last, the line points are linked to form the curve segments or curve segment networks. The experiment tests show that the proposed algorithm can correctly detect and precisely locate the distress at the same time.

This paper introduces a new real-time traffic light recognition system for on-vehicle camera applications. This approach has been tested with good results in urban scenes. Thanks to the use of our generic "adaptive templates" it would be possible to recognize different kinds of traffic lights from various countries. Our approach is mainly based on a spot detection algorithm therefore able to detect lights from a high distance with the main advantage of being not so sensitive to motion blur and illumination variations. The detected spots together with other shape analysis form strong hypothesis we feed our adaptive templates matcher with. Even though it is still in progress, our system was validated in real conditions in our prototype vehicle and also using registered video sequences. We noticed a high rate of correctly recognized traffic lights and very few false alarms. Processing is performed in real-time on 640 times 480 images using a 2.9 GHz single core desktop computer.

Cognitive radio (CR) is viewed as a novel approach for improving the utilization of radio electromagnetic spectrum resource, and spectrum detection is an important step of CR. As the traditional methods are detecting every channel orderly, and it does not satisfy the real-time needs of CR, a detection algorithm based on blind signal separation is proposed in this paper. Through the sensors, the mixed observation signals are obtained, and they are decorrelated and denoised by signal whitening and wavelet denoising. All the primary signals in the detection channels with uncertain sequence are obtained at one time based on blind signal separation, and by making FFT of them, the signals' frequencies and channels' states could be easily estimated. Simulation shows our algorithm which is based on a real-time, could restructure the primary signals, and the estimation of channels' states is accurate.
