For estimating the fault signals of the discrete flight control system with unknown senor faults and actuator faults simultaneously, a discrete proportional integral observer (PIO) is presented. The proposed PIO uses the augment states to estimate the sensor faults of the flight control system. Moreover, this observer uses an additionally introduced integral term of the output error to obtain the estimation of actuator faults. The convergence of the PIO is proved. The proposed fault observer is applied in flight control system. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fault observer.

Islanding of a voltage source converter (VSC) equipped DG unit is considered in this paper. Some internal controller signals are implemented in the islanding detection method in order to provide a robust operation. Particularly, the estimated frequency of the grid voltage along with a point of common coupling (PCC) voltage regulator and a dynamic reference-current limiter are proposed for islanding detection algorithm. Using a PCC-voltage regulator adds the active, or dynamic, property for the detection algorithm and increases its reliability. Moreover, implementing a dynamic current limiter, a robust operation is achieved. Through the proper design of the current limiter, the DG unit can have the ability to ride-through voltage dips with magnitudes above a certain limit, which can be set according to the grid codes, and detect islanding if the voltage decreases beyond that limit. The algorithm has also been verified for the case of island motor loads, which is considered as the worst case since dynamic loads affect the grid states in the case of islanding.

In this paper, an assistive robot is proposed for children with autism to enhance their joint attention, the main focus of which is an interactive scenario with potential modalities to establish a learning environment for children with autism. In order to implement the above interactive scenario, the robot has to detect a child's intention at every time segment. For this purpose, a novel attention detection algorithm is proposed which is based on a mixture Gaussian based unsupervised-clustering. A unique aspect of the proposed approach is does not require the use of any training data or models to detect a child' intention. Indeed, our algorithm is capable of detecting a child's intention when that child has a complex eye gaze pattern. These features are essential in the development of a robotic system for children with autism. The system was tested with autistic children who were attending a school for the disabled. The results were quite impressive, revealing that the children were indeed attracted to the robot and had engaged in interactions with it for a lengthy period of time. Overall, the results showed that the children's joint attention skills improved when the number of interactive trials with them was processed. In addition, taking into account its joint attention performance with the children, the robot was able to change the interactive scenarios autonomously. The proposed unsupervised model was capable of detecting a child's intention at every time segment with a recognition rate of over 75%.

This paper presents a lecture video structuring and analysis scheme to provide students an efficient way to access the lecture content. Instead of using color-based or histogram-based methodologies, we propose a new edge-based shot boundary detection algorithm to accurately rebuild the slide structure. The proposed approach can successfully resist the unwanted influences induced from the variant illumination condition and occlusions. Besides, original slide content can be extracted excluding any obstruction by using human removing techniques. Furthermore, the teaching focus is analyzed so that this system becomes more useful for learning.

Due to the capacity achievable, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems witnessed more interest in recent years. Several data detection algorithms are available for MIMO systems, especially the tree-search ones which offer lower complexity comparing to the ML receiver. In this paper, we are interested in one of tree-search algorithms, which is the Stack decoder. Nevertheless, the stack decoder is only proposed to decode MIMO systems employing finite constellations, as the QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). In this work, we introduce a new Stack decoder capable of decoding lattice and we call it the M-Stack decoder. The principle idea behind it is to generate M nodes at each tree-level and so to reduce the infinite alphabet of the lattice to only M components at each step. Then, we propose to adapt it to decode QAM constellations. This one is compared to the known QRD-Stack algorithm. While both visit the same number of nodes, the proposed M-Stack algorithm offers lower computational complexity and it is much faster than the QRD-Stack one.

Video coding is a process for representing video sequences in a compact manner. A significant step in video coding is searching for similar segments in previous frames and use only the difference information for reconstruction thus reducing space requirement. Different search techniques including full search and 2-D logarithmic search etc. are used in the current literature. Full search restricts its application because of its computational load. 2D logarithmic search is computationally less expensive although there are some spaces for improvement. In this paper we propose a new search technique by modifying the 2-D logarithmic search that requires less search points with insignificant loss in visual quality. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Because of the highly nonlinear of the Traffic flow prediction, it is very difficult to build its model. In this paper an algorithm which is based on fuzzy time series forecasting, is used to overcome the difficulty. And we use Coil-based virtual video detectors detect the traffic flow as a input of fuzzy time series prediction, this can make the historical data collection faster and more accurate. The simulation proved it is better than others.

Traditional LC filters can't work stably in small rating stand-alone power grid. So active power filter (APF) is becoming an important tool to solve the power quality problem in small rating stand-alone power grid. In most current detection algorithm of APF, it needs a synchronizing signal. Firstly, the influence of the synchronizing signal error on current detection of APF is analyzed in this paper. Voltage distortion, voltage unbalance and frequency fluctuation are frequent and severe in small rating stand-alone power grids, so traditional synchronizing signal obtaining method--phase locking based on zero-cross detection can't work effectively in small rating stand-alone power grid. Then a soft phase locked loop with additional filter is proposed. It can lock the phase angle on to the positive sequence of fundamental voltage accurately and rapidly. It ensures the performance of APF applied in the small rating stand-alone power grid. Moreover, the soft phase locked loop is easy to be implemented in a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Simulation and experimental results validate that the soft phase locked loop has satisfactory performance.

Handover prediction has been considered an effective technology for improvement of LTE Handover performance. Although not a few techniques have been proposed to achieve this goal including handover preparation based on cross-layer optimization and mobility prediction, the fact is that their gains are not usually so high as their cost. To overcome such weaknesses, this paper proposes a simple handover prediction technique which is based on a novel user mobility model to approximate simulation the laws of user mobility actions. We develop a user mobility database to assist the mobility prediction based on the user mobility history records. The simulation results show that the proposed technique minimizes the number of handovers and lower the ping-pang rate in LTE system.
