This paper presents a speech-based speaker identification system and an efficient approach for selection of acoustic parameters closely related to the vocal track shape of the speaker. Speech endpoint detection algorithm is developed in order to discard the room noise and non-speech signal to achieve high accuracy of the system. Windowing and fast Fourier transform (FFT) are used to determine the spectrum of the speech signal and PCA has been used to extract feature of speech of individual speaker. Eigenface algorithm has been used here as a classification and recognition tool. Eigenspace of individual speaker is generated by the feature of the speech signal. The experimental results show the noticeable performance of the proposed system.

As the aviation community moves toward the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), the current Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) may become inadequate. This paper presents a novel approach to detection and resolution of air traffic conflicts in a 3-dimensional (3-D) airspace between two aircraft. The inputs to the detection algorithm are the current 3-D position and speed vector of both aircraft and a cylindrical minimum safety protection zone (PZ). For collision avoidance systems (CASs), the size of the configurable PZ can be assigned values that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) considers as a near mid air collision (NMAC 1 ) incident. When available, additional inputs, such as measurement uncertainties and intruder type (e.g., manned/unmanned), can be used to alter the default protection zone. The conflict detection takes into account the 3-D encounter (e.g., closure rate, miss distance, relative converging maneuver). The resolution algorithm initially computes a set of six resolution advisories (RAs) and associated resolution alert times that ensure no violation of the protection zone. Two solutions are computed for each of the three dimensions: ground track, ground speed, and vertical speed. The initial resolution advisories (RAs) solutions take into account ownship capability (i.e., max climb/descent rate, max turn rate, max speed/stall speed) and ownship pilot response delay (e.g., autonomous vs. manual RA execution). These six solutions are subsequently down-selected in two steps: first, based on the encounter geometry, a single implicitly coordinated, independent solution is selected for each of the three dimensions; then, based on ownship preferences and operational considerations a final RA solution is computed.

This paper proposed an efficient omnidirectional surveillance system for digital home security. In this surveillance system, the omnidirectional scenes in a room, kitchen, car porch, dining hall, corridor, garage or backyard within a digital home are first captured using a web camera attached to a hyperbolic optical mirror. The captured scenes are then fed into a laptop computer for image processing and alarm purposes. Log-polar mapping is proposed to map the captured omnidirectional image into panoramic image, hence providing the observer or image processing tools a complete wide angle of view. A trespasser detection algorithm is also designed for trespasser detection purpose. The observed significances of this new proposed surveillance system include: it can cover a wide angle of view (360deg omnidirectional), small in size, low cost, lightweight, output images are with higher data compression, and accurate trespasser detection.

Congestion is still a great problem which Internet faces. Locating congestion links is very important to execute traffic engineering and mitigate network congestion. Firstly,congestion localization model was presented. After introducing AS performance matrix model, a kind of congestion detection algorithm based on threshold was put forward. Combining AS performance matrix with topology information, congested link localization algorithm was put forward. Simulation results show the algorithm has higher detection rate and lower false positive rate under different topology sizes and congestion levels.

A main concern for network intrusion detection systems is the ability of an intruder to evade the detection by routing through a chain of intermediate stepping-stone hosts. The intruders have developed some evasion techniques such as injecting chaff packets or timing jitter. Such evasion techniques cause most of the previous timing-based detection algorithms to fail. In this paper, we address these issues and devise a methodology to defeat these counter measures. Our algorithm uses modified association rule mining to detect stepping-stones. It is based on finding as many matched pairs of packets as possible within the fixed length intervals and then decide whether it is a stepping-stone connection by the matched rate. This algorithm allows checking multiple connections at once and therefore greatly increasing the efficiency compared to others. We examine the selected parameters and provide different trade-offs among false rates. Our experiments report a very good performance with very high detection rate and low false detection rate when using carefully selected parameter values.

Based on a simple gossip algorithm, which computes the sum of values known by several nodes, we investigate the research challenge of distributed sphere decoding. We provide distributed algorithms to perform both the QR decomposition as well as the tree search. Compared to the case where one declares one node as a centralized unit, this approach is much more robust against node and link failures. This is due to the fact that the target nodes for the gossip algorithm are chosen uniformly at random in each iteration. Numerical simulations show that even for a very small number of iterations the results coincide with the traditional centralized sphere decoder.

Medical diagnostics are changing rapidly, aided by a new generation of portable equipment and handheld devices that can be carried to the patient's bedside. Processing solutions for such equipment must offer high performance, low power consumption and also, minimize board space and component counts. Such a multi-objective optimization can be performed with behavioral hardware synthesis, offering design quality with significantly reduced design time. In this paper, an architectural exploration of the hardware implementation of a known QRS detection algorithm is performed, following a rapid prototyping approach offered by an advanced behavioral synthesis framework. Experimental results show that with this approach performance improvements are introduced with a fraction of design time, reducing dramatically time-to-market for modern diagnostic devices.

Sleep spindles are one of the most important short-lasting rhythmic events occurring in the EEG during Non-Rapid Eye Movement sleep. Their accurate identification in a polysomnographic signal is essential for sleep professionals to help them mark Stage 2 sleep. Visual spindle scoring however is a tedious workload, as there are often a thousand spindles in an all-night recording. In this paper a novel approach for the automatic detection of sleep spindles based upon the Teager Energy Operator and wavelet packets has been presented. The Teager operator was found to accurately enhance periodic activity in epochs of the EEG containing spindles. The wavelet packet transform proved effective in accurately locating spindles in the time-frequency domain. The autocorrelation function of the resultant Teager signal and the wavelet packet energy ratio were used to identify epochs with spindles. These two features were integrated into a spindle detection algorithm which achieved an accuracy of 93.7%.

Eye tracking is the focus problem in the researching domain of human-machine interaction and computer vision in recent years. The method of using a single eye location and detection algorithm has poor real-time performance. So a new eye tracking method is proposed in this paper. This method combines the location and detection algorithm with the grey prediction for eye tracking. The GM(1,1) model is used to predict the position of moving eye in the next frame, and then this position is taken as the reference point for the searching region of eye. The efficiency of eye tracking is improved in this way. Experimental results for image sequence of eye maneuvering show that the grey prediction model GM(1,1) can track eye region robustly and correctly because it doesnpsilat assume the moving law in advance, and weaken the effect of random disturbances by results of accumulated generating operation to explore the law of eye motion.

Image matching is usually used in tire disfigurement recognition. Traditional template matching methods such as the NC and the SSDA have high matching precision, but the calculating is hard and time consuming. The fast template matching algorithm based on the projection and the KMP algorithm has been proposed. Firstly, the feature string is gotten by projecting the image followed by matching it to get the approximate matching results. Secondly, the NC method is used to validate the approximate matching results. The algorithm has been used in the tire disfigurement recognition based on image matching and proven to be efficient.
