The key problem of fire detection is the recognition and classification for fire flame and interference. Support vector machine (SVM) is a potential data classification tool developed from statistical theory. Aiming at the shortcomings of traditional fire detection, An image fire detection algorithm based on support vector machine is presented. The algorithm overcomes the disadvantages of neural network such as over learning, trapping in local minimum easily etc., and overcomes the complexity of doing a lot of experiments and statistical analysis to obtain recognition threshold. The experiment results show that the image fire detection algorithm based on SVM has high accuracy and notable effect on solving the recognition problem of small samples and nonlinear problem.

We present a novel depth-map codec aimed at free-viewpoint 3DTV. The proposed codec relies on a shape-adaptive wavelet transform and an explicit representation of the locations of major depth edges. Unlike classical wavelet transforms, the shape-adaptive transform generates small wavelet coefficients along depth edges, which greatly reduces the data entropy. The wavelet transform is implemented by shape-adaptive lifting, which enables fast computations and perfect reconstruction. We also develop a novel rate-constrained edge detection algorithm, which integrates the idea of significance bitplanes into the Canny edge detector. Along with a simple chain code, it provides an efficient way to extract and encode edges. Experimental results on synthetic and real data confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, with PSNR gains of 5 dB and more over the Middlebury dataset.

A very efficient algorithm was proposed for fast template matching. The coarse-to-fine strategy was adopted in this algorithm. At coarse searching stage, local entropy difference was employed for template and sub-window of characterizing. Moreover, integral image and square integral image of the input image were utilized to speed up the local entropy difference calculating. After obtaining the local entropy differences between every position from the input image, the candidates table was built by threshold determining. At the fine searching stage, a new matching criterion, called as compound correlation (CC), was introduced for the best similar position within candidates table. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was compared to FFT-based normalized cross correlation algorithm (NCCA) and sequential similarity detection algorithm (SSDA) which was based on resolution-reducing. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm consumed less time in template matching than FFT-Based NCC and SSDA. Moreover, it performed better in robustness than SSDA.

Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is a major concern for microwave radiometry. In September-October 2008, an airborne campaign for observing L-band RFI was conducted and included approximately fifty hours of flight time. The campaign included test flights in Grand Junction, Colorado, observations over soil moisture ground truth sites in Iowa and Maryland, transit and return flights from Colorado to Maryland, and dedicated RFI observing missions over urban areas. In this paper, the L-band digital backend and its RFI detection and mitigation algorithms are described. RFI statistics and examples from the airborne campaign are also presented.

The progressive switching median (PSM) filter implements a noise detection algorithm before filtering. Both noise detection and filtering procedures are progressively repeated for a number of iterations. As an attempt to improve the PSM filter, an improved progressive switching median filter (IPSM) is proposed to enhance progressive median filter in term of its noise filtering ability. The proposed algorithm sets a limit on the number of good pixels used in determine median and mean values, and substitute impulse pixel with half of the value of the summation of median and mean value. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs a better noise filtering ability as the images are highly corrupted.

We propose a hybrid clustering strategy by integrating heterogeneous information sources as graphs. The hybrid clustering method is extended on the basis of modularity based Louvain method. We introduce two different approaches, graph coupling and graph fusion. The weights of these combined graphs are optimized with the criterion of maximizing the Average Normalized Mutual Information (ANMI). The methods are applied to obtain structural mapping of large scale Web of Science (WoS) journal database by integrating attribute based textual information and relation based citation information. From the experimental, the proposed graph combination scheme is compared with individual graph clustering, spectral clustering and Vector Space Model (VSM) based clustering methods.

In this article, we mention about a novel object recognition method based on an improved edge tracing method for binary images. This method named as ¿NORMBI¿ (novel object recognition method in binary images) contains two subsequent processes, determining places of independent objects (the starting point detection algorithm) and obtaining their edge points and geometrical shapes information (the edge tracing algorithm). The most important difference between NORMBI and traditional methods is to obtain geometrical shapes information and edge points of objects simultaneously by scanning image matrix once. It means to improve speed factor that has a vital important for object recognition. Besides, a tool has been designed to obtain the performance differences in between NORMBI and traditional methods. The mathematical results obtained are represented comparatively in a tabular format.

Evaluating conflict resolution algorithms in the air-traffic domain is a challenging task. These algorithms are usually tested using a pair of aircraft or a limited number of geometries involving multiple aircraft. Our previous work demonstrated the use of evolutionary computation for risk assessment of air-traffic conflict detection algorithms using a red-teaming (or playing the devil) approach. This paper extends our previous work to conflict resolution and investigate the effect of symmetry in the representation on the performance of the evolutionary operators.

During the process of the recognizing two-dimensional bar code, the two-dimensional bar can be corrected further only after accurately positing bar code in original image. In this paper, in case of the two-dimensional bar data matrix, the concept of convex hull in computational geometry is used to locate bar code in the paper. The vertices in convex hulls are selected from the list of pixels in order to reduce the number of the pixel processed. At the same time, the positioning graphics features of data matrix is set as selecting conditions in order to get the vertices in convex hulls in the area of positioning two-dimensional bar code finally. This algorithm overcomes the shortcomings of traditional straight-line detection algorithm as a result of the overall detection and the need to a large number of memory space. The experimental results show that the algorithm can position the area of distorted or tilted two-dimensional bar code effectively. It can reduce accurate positioning time.

Line matching is useful in many computer vision tasks such as object recognition, image registration, and 3D reconstruction. The literature on line matching has advanced in recent years, nevertheless, compared to other features (such as point and region matching approaches) it has made little progress. Especially, very few algorithms address the problem of image scaling. In this paper, we present a new line detection and matching algorithm that is invariant to image scale variation (SILT). The algorithm detects line segments as local extrema in the scale-space. Each detected line segment is represented in a distinctive manner using Haar-like features. PCA is further deployed to improve upon the compactness and robustness of representation. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach to deal with image scale variations.
